12-02-2018 , 03:11 PM
Don't think I've ever heard that song
12-02-2018 , 03:19 PM
How is that even possible?!
12-02-2018 , 03:36 PM

Can't get it to post

Shows your song isnt really rapey

Personally I wish all Christmas music was banned though

there you go

no idea if legit or not

I think the conclusion from this seems reasonable
Quote:
Given the historical and musical context, you don’t have to turn in your feminist card if you don’t interpret the original “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” lyrics as a literal description of a date rape. In 1944, affirmative consent wasn’t even an option for the woman in the song; she would have had to protect her reputation by either playing hard to get or not allowing herself to be gotten at all. And the way the song is written — a playful call-and-response duet that resolves harmoniously — definitely sounds like mutual desire.

But every sexual situation is dependent on context. It depends on the relationship two people have, the chemistry between them, the particular verbal or nonverbal communication that’s going on, and the clarity (or lack thereof) that both people want something to happen. Seducing someone and making the first move isn’t sexual assault, but it can be if it’s unwanted.

So it’s also totally fair if the song makes you uncomfortable — because in even a slightly different context, the same dialogue in “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” could have easily played out as a bad, coercive experience for the woman. And the man could have very easily justified it after the fact, because the burden wasn’t on him to make sure his partner was comfortable with the experience. It should be, though — and as a culture, we’re only beginning to imagine what that looks and sounds like.

Read it, found it gross tbh

When i was in Japan I had a bunch of Korean friends, and then i spent some time in Korea, and there there was a fairly explicit ‘girls can say yes, they can say “NO!” or they can say “No, *giggle*”, and it’s up to you to figure out which is which’ standard in Korea. It was very uncomfortable, and my general response was I’m not getting past first base, because I’m not playing that game even slightly.

The song can die, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it, but I think it’s way way back in the queue of things that have aged really badly, and the ban seems weird to me. Edit: maybe I’m just reading it wrong - to me it sounds like he’s trying to persuade her to stay, not preventing her from leaving, and that’s the key difference i think.
12-02-2018 , 04:43 PM
She said she doesn’t want to stay, like 40 ****ing times

At best, the guy is an impolite ******* who should have said ok, can I walk you home after the very first no
12-02-2018 , 04:44 PM
Goddamn it you ****ing guys
12-02-2018 , 04:45 PM
And that explanation posted that she can’t say yes and he’s doing her a favor is possibly the worst yet

Mega UGH
12-02-2018 , 04:46 PM
So, like I said, do we ban James Bond? It’s way way worse.
12-02-2018 , 04:51 PM
james bond is SCUM! he is a soldier of the empire! and of course a complete misogynist

def ban that pos!
12-02-2018 , 04:51 PM
Whatever, it’s not a hill I’m prepared to die on. If you tell me I’m wrong, I’m wrong.
12-02-2018 , 04:53 PM
i remember sean connery saying he slaps women in a barabar walters interview. and my mom and my sister said it was ok! jfc! he said sometimes they deserve a slap

this was like 1980ish
12-02-2018 , 04:56 PM
I’ve never really watched James Bond movies so I don’t know anything about them, but based on your description, yah probably ban that **** too

It's not slippery slope, it's about consistency and trying to understand what we ban and why. There's plenty of ****ed up **** in Shakespeare, but I'm assuming we're not banning that, for example.
12-02-2018 , 05:07 PM
**** shakespeare! that **** sucks!!! suuuuuuuuuuuucks!!! it was good in 1580. but that **** sucks now
12-02-2018 , 05:08 PM
