I'm "obsessed" with finding him because he deliberately ruined a game I was in.

Gimmicks are dumb, and I fully support any policy outing anyone who signs up with one.

Again, the game mod can make a rule about this if he chooses.
This is probably the best answer. It should be up to the game mod whether or not he'll allow gimmicks in his game.

Based upon the feedback in this thread I have decided for now to adopt the following stance:

1) I will not be outing gimmick accounts for games I am not playing under normal circumstances

2) In games that I play, I will share any information or insights that I have on the involved players which I obtained in any form that directly relates to me being a mod. It is possible that this could involve me speculating as to the identity of a gimmick account in a game I am playing based on my knowledge of who has used gimmicks in the past.

3) Game integrity is far more important to me than the privacy of anyone's gimmick account. While known instances of cheating are rare, that does not mean that we should not be vigilant. I will continue to monitor new accounts that show up, but I will attempt to preserve the privacy of gimmick accounts to the extent that it does not interfere with game integrity.

4) I will not go out of my way or ask other mods to go out of their way to assist in allowing gimmick accounts to enjoy maximum privacy. It's not fair to make non-ww mods police the accounts participating in ww games and it's not fair to me to pass on playing a game because of other people's gimmick accounts.

5) Game mods are of course free to ban gimmick accounts from their games. If you wish to do this, I will assist in weeding out legitimate noobs from gimmick accounts amongst the suspicious accounts who sign up.

I do not feel that this is the correct stance on the issue but in light of the opinions of others it is what I will do for now. It is, of course, subject to change.

Problematic imo, gives you a topic to talk about and even allows you to cast suspicion on people as a wolf.

yes, what happens when your wolf buddy is a gimmick whose real account you know but only suspected before the game? You can't be totally impartial there.

you're both wrong.

i'm consistently confused, though, since the thread Table-of-Contents page lists # of "replies", whereas the threads themselves simply list # of posts. and it seems sometimes in a game, some event may be slated to occur at, say, "the 1000th reply" - so is that post #1000, or post #1001? seems like it should be #1001 but in practice is actually #1000.

The 1000th "reply" is post 1001 ldo. How is this even a question?

most mods specify post number not reply number.

I'm saying I think people are sloppy with their usage, though I don't have any immediate examples at hand.

p.s. are you following me from thread to thread?

Yes, I am following you. The blue skin tone is irresistable.

maybe just a misperception on my part. usually seems to occur at a time/place where it hasn't been convenient to actually ask "hey, do you mean 1000 or 1001, exactly", though.

this. i never opened the sign up thread to see we had a gimmick, and regreted it when i saw we had gimmicks in the game. gimmicks should out there real name in the sign up thread, or they are not allowed to play. any games that i mod, if i mod any, that will be the rule.

I don't think pointer was a gimmick.

As I said in the turbo, I think we will see more new players (potential spammers) come to pog because of the new pm restrictions. It is probably the best way to go to try to get around the restrictions. Although those guys aren't gimmicks, you probably don't want to play with them either. So I would expect low post count players to become a bigger problem going forward
