Again, the game mod can make a rule about this if he chooses.
I agree with this. And I also think that being a noob is moer likely to get you killed early, even with the "dont lynch noobs d1" rule that is generally adhered to.

Since soah is my gimmick account, disregard what I wrote in the OP. I use the soah account to make all the too nitty to be concidered serious posts.

A more interesting problem is what a mod should do if an IP check comes back all proxies, which is certainly suggestive and ripe for abuse.
Protection of your privacy is concidered abusive these days? No wonder noone cares about stuff like the Patriot Act lol.

p.s.:
If you can't ID a gimmick account after a day of play you don't need to worry about being taken advantage off anyways because you probably suck at tone reads anyways.

I would never create a gimmick account. It's taken quite some time to build my fluff reputation and not get lynched for it.

RT, are you talking about gimmicks or BB here?

I feel like I understand where BB is coming from with the "fluff" rep. D1 is often full of the regs playing a lot of grabass. Which looks a lot like fluff.

...I would like to play a WW-type game that would be more like Survivor or something.

Everyone has a gimmick. You win/live/advance to the next day by voting people off by correctly identifying them from behind the gimmick.

Not sure how that mechanic would work, exactly. Someone get on that

I wanted to do a Death Note game along those lines a while back, but with one thing and another it never happened. It'd be perfect for the mechanic, though.

I meant BB: I don't think a gimmick is necessarily anti-village.

I don't think it's necessarily anti-village, either, as long as we know it's a gimmick.

the firedrill of "is it noob or gimmick" seems anti-village to me, though.

"lynch all liars" seems like it should fit in this discussion somewhere

or a WW version of "The Mole"...

Death Note sounds like a manga version of WW, really. we/you/one can kill whoever you choose - the trick is to choose wisely.

...i'm not sure what what mechanic would give people the incentive to post. maybe it would be standard, a lynch every day - so you post to argue for the best lynch and to avoid getting lynched yourself.

...then at night, everyone submits their "death note" - if you get the player=gimmick pairing right, that person dies. AND you get a 1-death immunity from either getting lynched or death-noted.

Didn't read all the mess.. but a mod playing the game shouldn't check if no one is knowing. That much is clear.

Playing under a gimmick is an enormous advantage. If you are a villager you can just post normally or even out yourself. As a wolf you remain undercover so that no one can recognize that your posting is radically different than usual. You don't even have to make an effort to conform to your usual villager game.

In that case, based on the wolf team track records recently (wire excepted) as mods we should be forcing people to play as gimmick accounts.

One disadvantage to playing as a wolf is that you would likely out yourself to the other wolves even if its just by talking over aim. Thus, if one of them slips up and calls you by your regular sn in thread you've outed yourself and a fellow wolf.

Originally, I was in the out all gimmicks camp, but I think I'm coming around to letting them slide. I do think that its important to know if they are a first time player or not though and that should be available publicly.

if this happened, village would clear those who post normally or out themselves, and be more inclined to lynch obvious gimmicks who are staying undercover

I don't really remember what happened in the all-gimmick game (apart from me and bobman owning it harder than any game has ever been owned before or since) - do you think that was more pro-wolf than a similar game without gimmicks (obviously couldn't be identical because of OR's multiple accounts etc)?

but village doesn't know who signed up or how they usually play

that game couldn't have existed in regular form, so there's no real way to compare

The most important point is that if the entire game won't know a mod that is playing the game better not be checking IP's. Consistency is all that really matters.

even if I don't check gimmicks in games I play I still have a much better chance of guessing correctly based on all the other gimmicks I've looked up

I agree that no one is entitled to know someone's identity for metagame purposes. However, because:

(1) mods can IP check gimmick accounts and find out their real identities; and

(2) the gimmick account owner might tell some people ther true identity but not announce it publicly

then they should be outed.

That's fine. But looking them up for a game you're in without everyone knowing seems super unethical.
