Well I know that Brazil should beat everyone. But Holland and Chile? Apparently Holland is good at scoring lots of goals, so let's go with them.

this is kinda funny now that we've seen that the most famous song from Argentina was actually submitted

[redacted-country] rap. I have no idea what the lyrics are about - and my search-engine-skillz weren't good enough to find either the lyrics or any information about the artist. Kinda laid-back, jazzy backing track. I have no idea about the lyrics or even their tone. Unobjectionable, background music for non-lanugage speakers. Ldo, both of those adjectives could be inapplicable if one counld understand the lyrivcs. Sad that something that is so nothing for me can be in the top half here.

Yes. Although the studio version is admittedly not its best moment. I submitted this one to a previous Walrus, with good result. The 1997 "final" concert version seems to be the most common to hear.

So I only like kooky tunes and electro-pop. Probably this qualifies under at least one of these headings. But who can say which?

tbh Nick it's interesting, I didn't know about this guy and I'll listen to more - so ty, but there's no way you win this if anyone submits decently from ARG/NIG

Yeah - Cure-ish - but less concise. And why not do something beyond that instead of immitating? The 1997 concert version is ... more rocky .. which I suppose is why you like it. (? not a dig, just a question.) And they've had a decade playing the song after which to decide what to do with it. But...

no. I desperately hope that's not the best music [ie music in some kind of rock/pop infuenced genre] from Argentina in the last 30 years.

I prefer the one that I linked. I don't really know what you're expecting from Argentina. There's a lot of ok music but not much that I really love. Most bands have a couple of good songs and a lot of bland songs. Persiana Americana is certainly one of the best. Best for singing along for sure.

edit: And then there are some groups that are just awful, too.

You referenced the 1997 one, so I figured you went and searched for that one too. It's here.

well some day I'll collate the clues and bl-og/urgh post about my interaction with South American music.

For now, let me claim that I know nothing about Argentinian music, apart from some things about (old?) tango.

No one listens to tango.

Buenos Aires produces a crapton of rock music. Most of it isn't really my thing but through sheer volume and statistical variance they manage to put out some songs that I like.
