I think I know what you mean. There may be a few who are better skillwise (Hanks has two Academy Awards though so it can't be many), but Hanks is very popular at this point of time and can carry movies almost on his own.

Hanks has been a very good and profitable actor for an extended period of time compared to other actors, and will probably continue to do so for a lot longer as well.

Unsure if that makes sense.

I'll take the "two headed director" Joel and Ethan Coen

I'm not sure where they are on other peoples' boards, but they are my favorite directors and they write, direct and produce their movies, so all I need is some actors to pair with them to make good movies...and they don't need the blockbuster big name actors like Tom Hanks to make a great movie, so having them alone will allow my studio to make great movies.

They have 6 Oscars and 21 Nominations and have swept Cannes before.

Filmography:
1984 Blood Simple
1987 Raising Arizona
1990 Miller's Crossing
1991 Barton Fink
1994 The Hudsucker Proxy
1996 Fargo
1998 The Big Lebowski
2000 O Brother, Where Art Thou?
2001 The Man Who Wasn't There
2003 Intolerable Cruelty
2004 The Ladykillers
2007 No Country for Old Men
2008 Burn After Reading
2009 A Serious Man

Yeah it does, I think there are people who watch a movie just because Hanks is in it or at least are far more inclined to watch it because of Hanks

I especially think noone will be specifically turned away by Hanks, as opposed to a few that I can think of off the top of my head

As famous as the Coen Brothers are, I've only seen like 3 of the movies on that list. They were good, but didn't blow me away with directorial amazingness

I don't think the Coen's would drop though, so if you wanted them you'd have to get them now

imo

This draft is quite obviously going to be heavily influenced by personal bias, and you will mentally bump anyone up the rankings if you thought they were especially good.

I probably would have picked the Coen's if I were on my own, damn partner

I coulda gotten a bigger name first, but I woulda been pissed the entire draft if I'd passed on them now and didn't get my #1 pick before someone else did.

There is enough depth out there that the first 3 rounds should all be 1st round pick material, so I'm not worried.

Like I said in signup, I'm gonna go for the movie studio I would like, not what I think others would like. I've seen every movie they've ever made, most multiple times, and several of them make my top 27 movies of all time list...if I didn't get them, I would have found myself watching the movies from the studio who did

they also wrote, produced and edited those movies...they are a quadruple threat

and imo you are missing out on the ones you haven't seen

last comment: u don't get their body of work...i don't get those previous movies

but I get their talent...and they have proven over a dozen movies to have endless talent to do drama, period pieces, comedy, and every mix of those. there is no doubt that their talent will pay off huge dividends for my studio

Nich it's fine when you pick for personal preferences, but every pick has to be judged by the others as well.

The money argument doesn't seem like the best for the Coen Brothers

pretty sure i diametrically disagree with this.

i think that the game is going to be won or lost, not by making picks that are 'steals' or whatever, but by making a studio that's greater than the sum of its parts - one that makes some form of coherent sensible whole - and i think that personal preferences are going to make a big difference in managing to do this. In essence this is why i would have not enjoyed picking spielberg even though i probably would - because i think it would force me to make picks thematically that overall i would enjoy doing less and thereby probably do a worse job.

Also: not convinced by disney at all from a holistic pov, but i think that the coen brothers are a great pick.

I suspect you will make some terrible picks then and I thoroughly look forward to it :P
