anyway, i think i've been reasonably forthcoming from the beginning about the potential lags in reveals due to rl schedule stuff, and fairly transparent about when people might expect each cat reveal

you guys deserve quality commenting and thoughtful ranking

you also deserve timely reveals; on the other hand, i was out of the country for the last fourish days and am currently writing a Supreme Court amicus brief, sooooo priorities

will relisten to cat 7 tonight and reveal as soon in the future as i'm able, with warning given beforehand

I've no idea what you are driving at.

"The community" has developed a "game" in which one person serves a particular role ("judge"), others another role ("submitter"), others still (including the first two types of people, but not exclusively them) another role ("commenters").

the name of this game - on this forum - is "walrus" or "trollololpooza" ..)

...

profit?

what don't you get about (in general) about "judge"s being constrained by the game?

re ww: it is an accepted part of ww (since it is a combative game with an outcome to be decided) that for the game-in-hand the mods rulings go. there's no similarity to walrus there.

Sorry I've fallen down on this

combination of depression, workload, and not mustering up much excitement for the songs in this category

will try to reveal tomorrow during late morning server time

the good news is that i really really love a lot of submissions in category 8

the bad news is that i really must have ****ed up the description for category 7, because i actively dislike the genres of a large chunk of the songs submitted

i've got everything ranked; i might try to bang out a quick and dirty reveal tomorrow during football if i can finish the draft brief i'm working on

i want to put this category behind me

like, i'm into catchy, punchy, lyrics-heavy stuff and was sort of hoping this category would yield some power pop, some guitar-driven indie, some punk, maybe some riot grrl or pure 90s alternative music like Teenage Fanclub or what-have-you

that was mostly not what i got

but, again, almost certainly a me problem in describing the category

reveal incoming fairly soon

In 23rd place, scoring 1 point

visceral dislike

Spoiler:
Precept2 with Lie In Our Graves by Dave Matthews Band (link)

Spoiler:
Total Points: 2

I have a strong negative reaction to all things Dave Matthews as a result of going to college in the mid-90's; sorry, it's not like he tends to be an object of musical ridicule or anything, you couldn't have known

In 22nd place, scoring 2 points

it's hard to imagine something less crunchy

Spoiler:
Suqata8 with Permutation by Red Hot Chili Peppers (link)

Spoiler:

this is noodly and instrumental. i don't like noodly and instrumental

In 21st place, scoring 3 points

okay, this might be even less crunchy, but at least it has lyrics

Spoiler:
27ninjabunnies with Volcano by Phillip Phillips (link)

Spoiler:
Total Points:4

kinda bland and insipid lyrics, but lyrics. and is that a cello? hard to be crunchy when you have string instruments

this also has lyrics

Spoiler:
xander biscuits with Going Inside by John Frusciante (link)

Spoiler:
Total Points:5

...which might be the most interesting thing about it, sorry. meander-y and dull and not my thing; i guess i can't really appreciate RHCP guitarwork

i'm guessing most people didn't listen to the example songs

Spoiler:
ArcticKnight with When The Music Is Over by The Doors (link)

Spoiler:
Total Points:6

not a terrible song, as Doors songs go, but not particularly crunchy, quite Doors-y, and soooooo long. why is this so long? why are you not the only person who submitted an interminably long song?

I took it to mean guitar driving the song but having them be distorted and fuzzy, not clear and pretty, yet not just metalling all over the place.

the Seven Nation Army example spoke volumes to me. Pumping distoerted guitar driving through the song with a good riff.

not sure how people got accoustic strum or meandering solo out of that example

unless they just thought "okay...something with guitar"

all of the songs from here on out are at least plausibly kinda sorta a little bit crunchy

congratulations to the remaining players on meeting the barest threshold of category fit
