In 4th place

Spoiler:
Gad Walrus Rank: 4th (9 points)

I will unashamedly recognize that the choice of this song was an apt panda and that most of you probably wouldn't rank this nearly as high, so nice category fit!

Spoiler:
fnord_too with Foundations by Kate Nash (link)

Spoiler:
So yeah, as the bouncy category demonstrated, I'm just a sucker for this kind of cheeky, energetic, slightly twee female singer stuff that deftly straddles the line between indie and pop, especially if they've got a discernible accent and a gift for a colloquial phrase. Lily Allen, Lenka, Marit Larsen, Nellie McKay, etc. I actually listened to this Kate Nash album a while back, thinking I would really like it, and it didn't really click with me. But I really enjoyed this song this time around, while certainly conceding that it's not anyone's idea of high art. But it makes me happy to listen to.

I like the energy of this song a lot

Spoiler:
JMurder3 with Your English Is Good by Tokyo Police Club (link)

Spoiler:
This really captures a particular period of my music listening, like 2006-08. Just after the explosion of angular post-punk melding with dance-y stuff melding with indie rock. It does a lot of cool things. This is actually another band I tried to get into back in the day, because I liked a lot of other bands that seemed to be cut from the same cloth, but couldn't ever really do it. But this song is catchy and will cause me to revisit their other stuff.

Yeah, this is my kind of thing

Spoiler:
eyebooger with Flesh Without Blood by Grimes (link)

Spoiler:
I know a lot of people don't seem to like Grimes that much, and I can take or leave a lot of her more artsy stuff, but this is just pure goodness. Complex without being inaccessible, poppy without being pop. You can chill out to it or study to it or dance to it. And I don't even need to be able to understand the lyrics. Really nice choice.

This is a classic but it still feels fresh to me

Spoiler:
gambit8888 with Daylight by Matt & Kim (link)

Spoiler:
Unadulterated indie dance pop, ferociously catchy. I've had this song on several mix CDs back in the day (not a mix CD for someone else, but a mix CD for myself...people used to do that, or at least I did). Funnily enough, Matt and Kim are another band -- like Tokyo Police Club and Kate Nash -- who I feel like I should like all their music, but then when I've listened to their stuff in the past it just didn't grab me for whatever reason. But I forget how absolutely stellar and sort of perfect this song is, and it makes me want to go back and give them another try.

Hmm, late 60s.

Spoiler:
Duckburg with (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Redding (link)

Spoiler:
This is an extremely classic song in the U.S. I don't tend to like a ton of R&B or soul -- making this a kinda curious choice for a panda category -- but this song is obviously great and Otis Redding is a legend. I find it so familiar, though, that it's hard to rank it higher.
Thanks Gad!

Next time I'll wait to post until the podium..
