as discussed earlier, there will be two sets of scoring for this mini-walrus

1) rank order (everyone) -- I will rank the songs from least favorite to favorite; the player with the song I like the most will win.

2) block scoring (full walrus participants only) -- There are 14 players from the full walrus that submitted something for this category. These players will earn points in block fashion to be applied to their full walrus score as follows:

14th through 11th: 3 points
10th through 7th: 6 points

So the bad news is that I thought people did a better job finding songs that fit my tastes in the NON-pander categories. Nothing here really, really stood out in the way that most of the stuff in that first chart in post #2 did.

But there were some decent things, and I've ranked them all. I'm feeling pretty sad, so I apologize in advance for the lack of detailed commentary. I'll target starting the reveal in one hour, at 3:30 server time, in this thread.

This song is definitely in my wheelhouse

Spoiler:
CrimsonFox with Tapioca Tundra by The Monkees (link)

Spoiler:
I like this song! I've heard it before; it's great. Trouble is, I listed both the Monkees and Mike Nesmith as artists to be avoided because I already said I liked them, and this is a Monkees song written and sung by Mike Nesmith. So to the bottom with you!

Spoiler:
Bloobird with Brand New Ancients (Part 3) by Kate Tempest (link)

Spoiler:
Sorry. There were so many fun and enjoyable and awesome things you could have given me here; our tastes overlap in multiple areas! Even just submitting that other Nathan Asher song would have done well, or literally a good song from any random band on the Wichita Records label. I was looking forward to your entry, but not this. I do appreciate what she does here, but I don't like listening to it, and it doesn't really fulfill any of the criteria I'm looking for in a song (most notably, being one). I'm not really in the headspace for difficult, uncomfortable, and challenging spoken word at the moment.

Not really my thing

Spoiler:
xander biscuits with Love Is All by Roger Glover (link)

Spoiler:
It's just so early 70s. I'm not a fan of most music from the early 70s. Probably a character flaw, but it is what it is. I provided YouTube links for almost 50 songs in post #2 as examples of what I like, and while two of them were recorded in the early 70s, they're not early 70s in the way this is early 70s. (I am in no way disparaging the music of the early 70s in any but the most intrinsically subjective way...unfortunately, this is an intrinsically subjective category in an intrinsically subjective game.)

Likewise, this isn't bad, and I'm probably a Philistine for not liking it that much, but it's just not really my wheelhouse

Spoiler:
Adam33 with One Less Set of Footsteps by Jim Croce (link)

Spoiler:
Also quite early 70s. I'm not at all opposed to the country rock elements of this, such as the beginning, but overall it sort of leaves me cold. I feel bad because you really like Jim Croce and thought I would really like him too; I'll revisit his stuff with the other links you gave me and see if I connect with them better. Also, this is super nitty, but the grammar nerd in me can't abide: I'm pretty sure it should be One Fewer Sets of Footsteps, or at least that "One Less Set" is wrong. Or, if not wrong, just something that bugs me while listening to it.

Spoiler:
Stork.. with Sangria by Remi (link)

Spoiler:
This is reasonably enjoyable, if somewhat slight. Not really my thing. Anything with the phrase "start rolling a fattie" is probably a decided underdog to being in my wheelhouse from the outset.

Hmm, late 60s.

Spoiler:
Duckburg with (Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Redding (link)

Spoiler:
This is an extremely classic song in the U.S. I don't tend to like a ton of R&B or soul -- making this a kinda curious choice for a panda category -- but this song is obviously great and Otis Redding is a legend. I find it so familiar, though, that it's hard to rank it higher.

Spoiler:
72off with Enjoy The Silence by Matthew Good Band (link)

Spoiler:
Despite the album coming out when I was a sophomore in high school -- basically a peak time for musical tastes to be formed -- I was never much of a fan of Violator-era Depeche Mode. Speak and Spell, Some Great Reward, and scattered songs from Construction Time Again and Music for the Masses were more my speed; by the time they hit Violator, it was a little self-serious and boring for me. I was much more into New Order (Technique), Pet Shop Boys (Behavior), Erasure (Chorus), Alphaville (The Breathtaking Blue), Camouflage (Methods of Silence) and OMD (Sugar Tax) for synthpop stuff around that time, with some Information Society (Hack) thrown in for good measure. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with this cover of Enjoy the Silence, except I've never really loved the original, and it doesn't do anything to significantly improve the song for me. I'm sure other people's mileage varies.

I mean the lyrics are a little overwrought and high-fantasy, and it's maybe a little quiet for me in parts, but the chorus is pretty catchy and I like it as a whole.

I like this song a lot; it's got some cool energy

Spoiler:
soma84 with Teddy I'm Ready by Ezra Furman (link)

Spoiler:
I like the way it builds, I like the way it does different things, it's pretty catchy. I like a lot of the vocal phrasings. The guy's voice reminds me a little bit of Guillemots. The only thing -- and this may sound dumb -- is that the saxophone bit in the second half (starting around 2:40, but recurring after that) gets a little Billy Joel-y, and I find it jarring. Also, I don't love the line, "the truth is just a molerat crawling underneath the earth/it is naked and it's gnawing at the world."

Spoiler:
Willi with Pinball by Brian Protheroe (link)

Spoiler:
Man, I really enjoy this; I thought it was too quiet at first, but it grew on me a lot, and it probably could have finished a few places higher on a different day. I like the lyrics, I like his phrasings a ton; it's sneakily catchy. I really like how stripped-down it is. It's actually where it starts to get too noodly at the end (again with a saxophone? or what is that?) that it loses me; it might well have podiumed if the whole song was more like the first half.

This song bounced around for me. (That is not an out-of-place pinball joke.) The more I listened to it, the more I liked it, though.

Spoiler:
RAORoman with You Ain't That Young Kid by Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam (link)

Spoiler:
At first I listened to it while walking down the street and liked it. Then I listened to it on an airplane (noise-cancelling headphones ftw) and thought it was enjoyable but pretty slow. Then the last few days I've played it several times and really like the relaxed vibe; the drum keeps it propulsive enough that it doesn't drag, and his voice is cool. And no buttery woodwind in the back end! Nice song.

Pretty spot on comment. I like that song a lot, but it is not on my favorites list and 2nd half def was weaker.

Spoiler:
The beginning of the song compares unfavorably to Luno for me, but once the vocals kick in, I like it a lot. Quite catchy, even if I don't always love that particular riot-grrrly vocal style (see, e.g., Fastbacks or Visqueen). It's a good song.
