Bloobird with Target Market by Sophe Lux

I think you'll know what I'm going to say here. It was great, I loved it. But it was just a tiny bit over the top at points. Just a bit too much, and while I get it was all part of the performance/concept, it did take something away for me. I feel like you've been robbed this whole Walrus because you've submitted a bunch of really interesting songs I've liked, but have just had one or two things I struggle to deal with (I feel that way about a bunch of people, actually) - I feel kinda bad about it, I think you're probably owed some sklansky walrus points :P

First minute and a half was fantastic, I thought the accordion was an inspired touch, and didn't overpower everything else (which is a pleasant change). Even the vocals were, by and large, very good. But just those odd moments when it got a little too ridiculous were, well, a little too ridiculous. And it took away from my enjoyment just enough for the song to land here.

Well not anymore

This was a real fun song. Great little guitar riff/hook throughout and the length of the whole thing was just perfect. It didn't have the 'singalong' element I sort of expected from this song - like I've listened to this >10 times now and I still couldn't really sing along to it too easily or naturally. And I don't thinkkk that's a me problem. Not a bad thing, per se, just a bit of a surprise.

Nick Royale with Infra 5 by Max Richter

I have spent something like 45 minutes today trying to 'get' this piece of music. I will say the headphone change did help this one quite a bit. Perhaps it was the enhanced freedom allowed by the wireless nature of the headphones, perhaps I'd reached the perfect state of 2am delirium, I'm not sure. But the song clicked for me after some slow growth, and I found it really nice.

In general, I'm not the biggest supporter of minimalist music, Philip Glass isn't my favourite person in the world, so when a composer comes in with a 'more is less' approach, I tend to be quite skepticalface. This works though - I still would have enjoyed a little bit more variability and playing on theme a bit more, but it's nice. The last minute or so is inspired, the contrast between the classical music and the static/distortion is great, and not something that had even crossed my mind before.
