Well, that session was fun:

Andy Abboud, the Venetian spokesperson, referred to "the PPA and their creepy Twitter followers" as supporting online gambling, versus "the will of the people".

Overall, Mitch Garber acquitted himself well versus Abboud's circular ranting about kids hiding their gambling "under their Star Wars(r) sheets" in their bedrooms at night, while funding terrorists, and other similar stuff.

At one point, Garber just said, "You are all over the lot !", a gem of an understatement.

For his part, Steve Lipscomb, formerly CEO of the World Poker Tour, asked Abboud how the Venetian would know if some kid staying at their hotel had a cell phone with one of the Venetian's mobile casino apps and was up gambling under is his sheets up in one of the Venetian Hotel rooms.

And here's the Washington Post article that references.. highly recommend you read it:

Article

Here's a quote from it...

Quote:
"Certainly the 'Sheldon Primary' is an important primary for any Republican running for president," said Ari Fleischer, a former White House press secretary under President George W. Bush who serves with Adelson on the RJC's board. "It goes without saying that anybody running for the Republican nomination would want to have Sheldon at his side."

Las Vegas Sands Triples House Advantage of Most Blackjack Games

Quote:
The company that does not want Americans to play $1 hands of online blackjack with favorable payouts has slashed player returns on most of its Las Vegas blackjack games.

Venetian and Palazzo added a placard to all traditional shoe blackjack games on the main casino floor disclosing that all natural blackjacks now pay just 6-5. This rule change was enacted last week. This makes these two Las Vegas Sands properties among the worst places to play six-deck blackjack on the Strip.

...

The only other casino in Las Vegas that pays 6-5 on all traditional shoe blackjack games is O’Sheas, which is more of a bar with a party pit than a casino.

...

Regulated online casino sites in New Jersey and Delaware offer blackjack with minimums of $1. The house edge on these games is about .5%. The new Las Vegas Sands’ blackjack rules place the house advantage at 1.98%

Apparently, this is a big weekend for this issue. According to the article, the invitees include Chris Christie and the event will include a poker tournament ???:

"This strategy would favor more-established 2016 hopefuls such as former Florida governor Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. All four will descend this week on Adelson’s luxury hotel in Las Vegas, the Venetian, for an important step in what some are calling the “Sheldon Primary.”

Officially, the potential 2016 candidates will be at the Venetian for the spring meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition, which begins Thursday with a golf outing, followed by a VIP dinner featuring Bush and hosted by the Adelsons in the private airplane hangar where Adelson keeps his fleet.

But some of the most important events will occur between the poker tournament, Scotch tasting and strategy workshops. That’s when Adelson is scheduled to hold casual one-on-one chats — over coffee, at dinner or in his private office — with the prospective candidates.

Victor Chaltiel, a GOP donor and an Adelson friend who sits on the board of Las Vegas Sands, said at this early stage in the 2016 sweepstakes, Adelson is “neutral” and has his eye on a number of potential candidates, including Bush and Christie."....

It may be interesting to see how Christie fares, especially if he can lock up the Convention for the Sands:

"Adelson, who is worth an estimated $37.9 billion, according to Bloomberg, is a staunch supporter of Israel. He has expressed little interest in some of the social issues that motivate the GOP base. But he is driven by what he has said he sees as Obama’s socialist agenda. He is a fierce opponent of organized labor and is currently embroiled in a fight to ban online gambling.

Adelson also is lending his weight to a bid by Las Vegas to host the 2016 Republican National Convention."

Stay tuned .....

The poker tournament, I know! Unreal.

Also, did you see Adelson will be meeting one-on-one with each potential candidate? Sounds like the bachelor TV series.

These details and more are why everyone should read that Washington Post article...

I also enjoyed Mr. Adelson's casual use of a poker metaphor:

Online Gaming Ban Bills Drop this week. "The bills were written by the staff of the Coalition to Stop Online Gambling, the advocacy group funded by Adelson, who has pledged to “spend whatever it takes” to see the legislation passed."

This is disgusting. I wonder if the candidates even feel dirty selling themselves like this anymore or if they're so desensitized to it that it doesn't phase them at this level.

I doubt really online poker is that big of a deal breaker but how does Chris Christie reconcile his states poker and he has been a strong advocate and a ban on all online gaming. Would seem Adelson and Cristie have opposite positions, though politics is all about finessing/hiding the details and getting the cash.

I would imagine that not only are they desensitized to it, but they actually think they are doing the right thing. Complete psychopaths.

Let's face it folks, none of these politicians care about online poker. There's not an ounce of principle in the bunch. Adelson actually doesn't care either. He may claim some moral high ground, but all he really cares about is protecting his own interests.

Unfortunately, having bled the suckers with house odds for decades he has the money to buy the politicians.

Rand Paul supports online poker, has basically a perfect voting record on issues of principle, and is hated by Adelson. He is the only major candidate that has zero chance of getting Adelson's support.

FYP.

Seriously, Did I miss the Rand Paul sponsored bill to repeal the Wire Act entirely or the Rand Paul bill to safeguard property rights from harassment by his home State, the Commonwealth of Kentucky which is STILL trying to shut down any online gaming websites and seize domains from anyone it thinks have any chance of being extorted of funds ?

When he does one of those things, then you "might" say he "supports online poker". Otherwise, whatever you might want to believe about your favorite Senator is wishful thinking, nothing more.
