The signal to noise ratio in the forums is low, hardly news to anyone.

Has a user moderated system, like that used on www.slashdot.org been considered? That system allows users to mod posts up or down and to mark them as "informative", "funny", "troll", "flamebait", etc.

Then, when reading the forums, you can choose to scan all the posts, or only those that have been modded up to a certain level.

I think that system works fairly well. The code that runs the Slashdot system is open source (free).

I think the system we have now, which is containing the lion's share of the tards in their own forums (BBV4L/NVG) and never ever under any circumstances visiting those forums, is working pretty well.

If we do this let me know in advance so I can register 100 gimmick accounts and mark all of the posts by people on my enemies list as "troll", "flamebait", etc. Thanks!

Yeah the teeny head santa was really pretty damn creepy. Made me feel like I was in that one movie with that one guy that did that one thing.

Assuming that this code is smart enough to consider gimmick/duplicate accounts, I'm still not sure I'd be happy with it. There are plenty of things that may entertain me, that other people may vote down, and it's extremely likely that the opposite would happen as well.

The metatagging system however, has some promise.
