Huge advantage being a guitar & keyboard guy if you're doing some home recording projects solo, vs. being a drummer.

In fact my favorite drummer ever is a software package. He's up to jam 24/7, never too drunk, never too loud, timing is always on, and doesn't cost much. But, unlike a real drummer, he doesn't come with a van.

For whatever reason I've just liked drums simple and to the point. I'm so over drum solos and being around Neil Peart wannabes, just give me a guy with a good sounding kit and who's solid back there.

See already, people seem to be asking for two completely different things here, a music forum versus a musician/artist forum. People have been asking for a general music discussion forum for a long while, all well and good but it's been shot down many times.

A musicians/artists forum would be mostly like what OP described with maybe one LC thread. If you allow threads like those posted above, then that's what will dominate the forum. And if you do that then you haven't really made a musicians forum at all, just opened a back door for the general music discussion forum under a different name.

I'm wanting a musician's forum where topics like are posted ITT can be discussed. But my argument also is that general music discussion shouldn't be prohibited, as it is discussed everywhere, and musicians tend to talk about it as well. The main focus is obviously going to be DIY discussion, what gear should I buy, what should I do about this venue owner, band mate, etc.

Its amazing to me that 2+2 will not open up a Musicians forum, yet they have a History forum.... A HISTORY FORUM.

Lirva over time I think you'd have one or two gear threads for every 10 "best ____ albums of all time" type threads, if that. What we've seen of music-topic threads in other forums seems to bear that out.

Well the point of the forum shouldn't be for random people to come in and talk about bands they listen to, it should be for musicians. All that "best X of all time" crap can go elsewhere, but musicians shouldn't be prohibited from talking about music they like and their influences.

Not to mention of course the art aspect.

Is the idea to exclude people? I see a little too much of that nowadays.

Seriously, a musicians' forum without music? Not a chance you get it, if you ask me. How many musicians in the sense here described are there on the 2+2 Poker Books Forum?

Certainly not, but Gonso makes a good point and the forum shouldn't be over run with "greatest X of all time" type threads.

Fair enough, but you can't just categorize people as musicians and non-musicians and then apply different posting standards for each. Even if you could it would be impossible to mod in any fair way.

As far as traffic I'm not at all sure there would be enough and I mentioned that earlier ITT. And I'm not talking about excluding anybody, I'm talking about opening a forum that's not just a LC music catch-all forum that the 2p2 powers-that-be don't seem to want. If there's not enough interest in talking gear or learning guitar parts or making beats (or whatever), ok.

For right now all of those LC music discussion threads seem to work where they are, at least as far as I can tell, so I'm not sure I see much value cannibalizing those from OOT or EDF anyway. If the Reds or whoever change their mind on that then maybe yeah throw them all together in one place and call it a music forum, but it doesn't seem like we're hurting for places to post that now. Musician type stuff could benefit from having one location though.

There would be traffic imo. Lots of musicians on the forums, and lots of people who'd like to learn instruments. Lots of artists too.

I absolutely ****ing hate the god damn tuners on my Jaguar. ****ing **** suckers are the god damn devil. You have to cut the string about 2 inches or so longer than the peg, then stick the end into a hole in the center and TRY to wind it up without the ****ing string popping out. And I don't mean a hole like the standard tuning pegs where the peg is this

I

and they go though like this -

no no no, the pegs are like this

I

and the hole is at the ****ing top and you have to stick the ****ing string in like this

FALKJDSFLKASJDFL;ASKDJFL;AKJDSFL;KAJSDFL;KASJDFLJA SDFL;KJSDF

Needless to say, I have to buy another ****ing high E

Speaking of guitar strings, jfc I cannot do thick strings any more. I gotta use 9s on my Jaguar. May even use 8s on a strat cause of the longer scale length imo. I used to use those ****ing GHS Zakk Wylde boomers, **** was like 60 low E, 52 A, ****ing 48 D or some ****. ****ing ridiculous. Tried a set of Ernie ball light top heavy bottoms, still ****ing ridiculous. Tried some regular 10s, not happening. I've now got the 3rd set of strings on my Jaguar in like 3 days. 9s where it's at imo, ****ing thick bastards kill my god damn left hand. Except for the low E, I like a 54 low E so I can drop it down to C and even A imo.

Just put the t-post tuners on ebay and buy a replacement set you like.

As far as strings, remember a Jag has a short scale. At least IIRC it does. If so you have to do a little more thinking about string gauge and tension.
