What is 2+2's policy on removing past posts and threads?

Has anyone else dealt with this?

Admins are not helping at all, I'm getting different responses from different colors, and admins are contradicting themselves in messages to me.

I've emailed Mat, Killa, a bunch of greens, and haven't gotten anywhere.

I've been on the site since May - 2009, and I am now ready to leave. I'd like to take my posts/threads down before I go.

Thank you so much 2+2. I've enjoyed my time with you all.

Also, Mat Sklansky and Two Plus Two Publishing LLC, thank you for being totally unprofessional and ignoring my situation.

In general 2+2 will not delete your old posts because it will break up old threads and ruin the integrity of the archives.

You don't own your posts once you've made them, they are 2+2 property.

The only circumstances under which some deletions might be entertained is if you has posted personal info, but then only this part of those posts would be eligible for deletion.

That's my understanding anyway.

I've posted stuff that connects this account to my IRL name on accident indirectly.

Old posts about drug and alcohol abuse and std's....

Kindly asked admins to remove specific posts.

Ignored.

Goes home anyhow...

I understand the reasoning behind this. Thanks for explaining.

However, you'd think they are not robots. Here's a person who made a lot of mistakes when younger (and still does) and is trying to make some positive changes in his life. He kindly asks an admin to consider his situation to prevent harm and damage to his personal life and career.

Can't you just try to be nice and support someone who has gone through a rough patch?

I don't want to apply for a job, someone google my name, see one of those referenced threads...
06-17-2014 , 01:35 AM
give him the hook!

I've been throwing punches all day - I think they are just deflecting off their robot armor.
06-17-2014 , 01:38 AM
You shouldn't be insulting them while you're asking for a favor.
06-17-2014 , 01:40 AM
I know I shouldn't and that is not my intent here. I've been trying to work this over the last few days and haven't made any progress.

I'm frustrated and this has been giving me anxiety and stress lately.

Also been applying for jobs because I was just laid off.

I apologize for getting upset. Misguided frustration.

Not promising anything but if you want, pm links to posts that would pop up on a Google search of your name. Maybe we can clean those up without purging everything.

Yeah, that's pretty much the best we can do for someone who has more than a handful of posts, for the reasons mentioned by GnT.

Another possibility we sometimes look at is changing/removing your screen name.

As for Mat, keep in mind that he gets a lot of requests, so he gets very busy and sometimes things get missed inadvertently. Plus, he might've taken the weekend off.

This is a very good yet succinct explanation.

It seems like you feel it's urgent to do this immediately because you're applying for jobs now. Just so you know, removing them won't stop them from showing up in a google search, at least not for a long time, as google will still show its cached pages.

you weren't ignored. you sent me a lot of iinks to look at that kind of thing becomes lower priority. at this point i only promise to look before friday.

Between things such as Google's web caching, archive.org - the Wayback Machine, and others - erasing one's internet past is probably impossible. Certainly very difficult.

Recently a ruling came down in Europe that folks there had the "right to be forgotten" and that sites such as Google would have to remove search results relating to them. I don't know how this is playing out in practice.......

I made my post, then saw Mat's. Wow! You want a favor, and when it isn't immediately granted you threaten the person you're asking for help..... I can't see how this can ever be a productive line to take.

Mat, I would prefer not to go down this route. I slept on it. I was pretty worked up yesterday. Again, I apologize for my behavior lately (especially that PM you referenced). I've been stressed lately about finding work as well.

This is a good point. It's hard reading some of my old posts and threads. It illustrates some of the more difficult times I've been through. I don't know what to do.

I'm sorry again here. I didn't approach this situation well nor did I handle it well on my end.

You and the admins were receptive. I was inpatient. I'm sorry Mat.
06-17-2014 , 10:08 AM
okay. i still need a little time.

basically, i get 40 or so requests a day to do something and anything that can't be addressed within 5 minutes gets pushed back.
