No one has asked the most important question of all. Can we "like" posts in the near future?

ok, got the password squared away.

Some of the new format is "just getting used to it", but some of this is astonishingly bad. As in, if someone came to me proposing this for a UI, the first word out of my mouth would be, "You're". The second would start with "F" and end with "d". I'll let you decide which word to put in.
  • Being unable to collapse left-hand navigation. Lots of subforums I'm not interested in seeing.
  • No separation between sections (i.e, the nav and content just kind of run together on the white background).
  • Same between posts, contain each one more obviously
  • No "go to first new post" (the little 'plus sign' icon) link
  • Unclear how to to more advanced things when posting like youtube links

Just initially. It's too hard to read to get into more details than that.

I'm sure that some of this is getting it styled up, and it will improve over time.

GD, what was the issue, I tried logging in myself but wasn't able to do so and just assumed it wasn't live yet

do you need a new password or something?

to login to the new forums (now, or after migration) you will need to go through the password reset process.

2p2 too big vB can't handle it anymore, though I may be just making this up.

Epic whining in this thread. Like, COVID-19 level whining. Along with telling the owners not to do what they clearly don't want to do, but have to do. If you're here whining and complaining, hopefully you will make good on your celebrity-like promise and GTFO here when you don't get want you want.

Not having simple cut and paste linking would be pretty bad. You should be able to drop most source links in and have the software pull and format it.

One of the last sites still using old school vB. I will miss it. Many of my favorite sites have switched over the years and most of them I stopped going to because it was too annoying to read them.

I love how the current version clearly separates threads and posts with lines and background colors. The new style is harder to read with just a solid color background. It also doesn't increase the width based on browser window size. Lots of wasted space.

I understand this kind of change is inevitable. I'm actually surprised you hung on to this version as long as you did. I'm hoping for improvements to the style of the new version to bring back some of that readability.

tbh when I saw the demo site way back when I just assumed that the purpose was to test data migration and basic functionality, and that the styling was left default (I'd say vanilla but...) because it didn't matter for that. And that it would be updated later.

Probably would have sounded more of an alarm if I knew the plan was to go live with that template. But yeah, I'm sure it's fixable after the fact. Also you should obviously hire gregorio for that.

I hate that format I ve a 1440p screen and full screen the page looks way too narrow, i need to use only half my screen or it looks stupid.
Hopefully i can change that in account setting because the experience is terrible.

I did this exact transition years ago, from vbulletin to Vanilla... it was a pain, and in the end wasn't worth it. Vbulletin is much better software, and it was a huge regret of mine. Let's hope Vanilla had gotten better and it's worth the move. I assume it has something to do w/ hacking, because vbulletin is more robust development wise.

That looks ****ing terrible. How in the world is that new godawful design a good solution to any problem?
It certainly cannot be the "best" solution.

I'm sure they will adjust the css and make it look better.

That would be my last concern right now. The bigger one is if Vanilla will be better than vbulletin handling a forum this size. I had a small forum for years and it didn't turn out well. This wasn't that long ago I did this same migration. So crossing fingers it turns out better for them.

This is a poor excuse. Windows XP "isn't supported" and there are literal hospitals/jails, etc that still run and rely on it, successfully.

Yeah, that's been a great success!

Quote:
in 2017 around a third of NHS hospital trusts and 8% of GP practice IT systems were impacted by the file-encrypting WannaCry malware, largely due to organizations running a significant number of older Windows machines that were exposed to an attack that didn't affect Windows 10 at all. The situation was so severe that Microsoft issued patches for Windows XP, which it stopped shipping security updates for in 2014. Almost two years to the date of WannaCry, Microsoft again offered patches for XP because of an eerily similar and equally 'wormable' bug called BlueKeep.

if by "successfully" you mean "disaster waiting to happen" then you are correct, you don't want to be running software that any bored 14 year old can hack.

Is there any intention on supporting the POG subforum's activities? Right now there's lots of software used (of which I just spent last couple days working with our old POG code master to revive our Werewolf auto moderator) that might be rendered useless? If so that will completely kill POG. I get it's a Poker forum and I have no stats to back this up but surely POG is historically one of the biggest subs and drives a lot of the volume?
