Cliff Notes for those who haven't read it!!

1. OP Gets staked and leaves premier university to play as a pokah pro along side his staker in France.

2. OP loses some stake monies online, and loses the first week at live poker in Italy in what is supposed to be the softest game in the world.

Here's where it gets sketchy. I'm 90% certain this is exactly what happened. There's a 10% chance I'm wrong but I'm getting my money in good and gladly accept any variance.

1. When staker leaves OP alone in house one night, OP decides to steal a small part of the stakers $30,000 in an attempt to gamble with it and win some money so he could pretend he "crushed" the soft game that he embarrassingly couldn't beat.

2. OP probably loses an amount ~$5,000 of the $30,000 while either running really bad or playing like a degenerate tilt monkey. OP freaks out.

3. In a rash attempt to cover his loss and hide his theft from his staker, OP steals $5k and puts it all on black. Red hits.

4. OP completely freaks out now. He puts $10,000 on red. "c'mon one ****ing time", he thinks... black hits.

5. Now OP is going insane in the membrane. "OMG OMG OMG what have I ****ing done?", he thinks. He throws the final $10,000 on black. He can't believe what he's done. He knows what is going to come before the ball lands... on 14 RED.

6. OP is completely in shock. He doesn't know what the *** to do. He decides that he has ONE choice and ONE choice only.

7. OP decides to create story about how he left the door unlocked and someone must have came in and stolen the $30,000.

8. OP goes and gets completely ****t faced drunk before having to face the staker in an epic display of addiction.

9. OP comes home wasted and staker is actually a smart guy and knows OP is full of shyt. Throws OP out on the street. OP doesn't have any money because he is addicted to gambling. OP is homeless for 3 days.

Super cliff notes: OP steals $30,000 from staker and creates elaborate story to hide his degenerate gambling addiction.
i think this could be possible
i really dont know what is true^^
in either way it is sad

what if he just got tired of you losing, and trashed the place himself?
Just to get rid of you>
Then make you think money was stolen, knowing how incredibly gulliable you are since you just picked up and left your life in michigan and moved to france with him AND HIS WIFE, and tried to scam you for 30k by making you feel bad? He knew you had nowhere to go, and you're lucky to be able to touch U.S. soil again!

smarter then your average bear

or maybe this is one long drunken dream of yours? You mentioned twice getting so ripped and blacking out and not knowing how you would up in places or what happened.

<<<...not paying...

This doesn't sound so bad. If you're going to eat from the trash, France is the place to do it.

Just read the first 24 pages of this ( yes i am sad )

just wanted an updated has he paid back any of the money.

In my opinion you definatly shouldnt pay alex any of the 30k he allegedly got stole he shouldnt of left it there in the first place for a start would anyone here go on holiday and leave that amount lying about the house ? especially with a guy you ve just invited over cmon !

I also dont think you should pay any of the money back he staked you . this is the point of getting staked the money if you win you give him his percentage if you lose tough **** for him thats why he staked you in the first place.

I was a non believer at first about this story but i believe most of it now.

I believe that this poor dude is getting scammed and alex is now just tryin to recouperate his loses , i dont think he expected you to lose the money he was staking you .

as for takin the 10k cash into france this could be part of it , but i reckon he had more in store for you after say you were there a month if you were winning (which i think he expected you to do and a reason for picking you ) then he would say lets go to monte carlo or whereever and say just take this suitcase through for me everything will be ok.

Sounds to me as if he was setting you up to be a drug mule im sure there would of been easier targets for him but after all with the poker he maybe thought you were goin to make him some money and at the end of the day who really know what was goin through this alexs mind.

Although no limit suggested no goin to the fbi i would suggest goin to the fbi and explaining everything in precise detail about what happend. You think that they may not be able to help you BUT if this man is a serious con man then he will be on their radar(maybe a reason he didnt want to declare anything at customs) . You think they cant help you , but you have

exactly what this guy looks like you spent enough time with him.
know where he lives in france
know what his wife looks like
got all his contact details

this information is so valuable to the authorities and might be able to help them exactly identify who this guy is whether he is on a wanted list or whatever.

At least then you would know if you where dealing with a big time criminal.

Result is if he is a big time criminal then its good news for you. As you are not the only person he is scammin at this particular point in time he ll be scamming hundreds of people .

it would be very stupid indeed for him to come after you as it makes more sense for him to cut his losses and move onto the next target.

although he says you owe him 30k its only 7k so you say so for 7k this man is not goin to chase you to the other end of the world especially when he never wanted to go to the cops in the first place ! he never wanted to go because he didnt want his details put down on record thats why he didnt want you to go to the cops.

and because you know everything about him then he knows you have leverage over him but hes never goin to admit that.

i know this is a year on now so does anyone know what happend to this guy ? are you still alive mate ? if you are have you paid alex any money ? if you havent then dont worry bout anything.

Al

Alex refusing to get the police into this and accusing the OP straight away is quite unfair for OP. I would have insisted a police into the mess if I was OP.

(Of course Alex could have said no, in which point he couldn't claim the 30k from OP anymore, except with a gun)

The other option is to mark on the customs card, "I'm carrying 30k" planning on buying some nice french antiques and it's a bitch to pull out this much cash out of the US so I just carried it w/ me.

A third option, don't declare it just like most of us don't declare a whole lot of different things when travelling.

Just don't see the point in scamming a kid who obv. doesn't have much.

Still going w/ this is fake.

If it's real I'm goin' with gay molestation plan.
IF alex is travelling with a large amount of illegal funds and no records to show where it comes from Claiming it on the form is a terrible mistake, not claiming it and carrying the amount is even worse.

Finding non-family members to help you smuggle it is A+++++

Even if op was used move 10k it seems like alex is raking himself too much as the ops plane ticket alone eats a decent % of this ($600-$1200)

i aggree on this story has weird holes in it that dont add up/seem shady (mor on alexs part then anything).

Why would he target me, of all people? Sure, I'm naive and all, but I'm a broke college kid. That part doesn't make sense.

That being said, I don't really know if going back to Ann Arbor is the best thing to do, now that Ive made this thread and thought about all this. Alex definitely knows about twoplustwo and for all I know, he could be reading this thread right now. What I'm definitely not going to do is go back to my original place (since Alex knows where it is), that I'm 100 percent sure of
you are the perfect mark for him to 'mold'; young, relatively broke, and no real attachments or anything holding you down in life. perfect to take out of the country, think he would have offered this crazy situation a 45yo grinder he meets at the tables who has a wife and 3 kids at home????

What is the deal with people taking all they have and putting in on the table in more ways that one...

OP you are an idiot and I hope you never recover from your stupid stupid mistakes. I'm so sick of hearing about people putting their lives in other peoples hands then whining when they somehow (obviously) **** up. Safety net is vital to live in this world period, especially if you are a ****ING GAMBLER. I mean a guarantee that when something goes wrong, you have security for when something ELSE goes wrong so that when another thing goes wrong you probably will be OK.

You slamming 5k before you left is just wow...

people that get excited will never make it in the gambling world.

Make sure next time you'll be visiting France, it' s because you re gonna play the EPT Deauville, not on some wild fantasy about crushing midstake livegames.

I'm sure it's been mentioned previously in this thread, but the most money you can carry internationally without claiming it (and paying duties on it) is 10k. The amount Alex gave to OP. This is not some scam. He just didn't want to have to pay a duty. This is really, really, really standard.

Alex scamming OP is way, way less likely than OP scamming Alex, IMO.

This seems way to elaborate for a "young, naive college kid" to make up. I don't know, maybe I just WANT to believe in such an interesting, Hollywood-sounding story such as this. I personally know of a true yet unbelievable story of one of my friends eventually becoming a 'hired gun' for a prominent Italian underworld figure (within Australia) a whle back so could definitely picture a movie-like story such as this being real.

Anyway anyone else see a few similarites with OP's story and the movie "21"?

lol how the hell is this like a movie?

seems more like a sob story to me, there is no flash and all idiocy

authenticity verified through details tho...

for example the beaches in nice are rocks not sand and OP confirms.

You really can't see some similarities between this story (whether legit or not) and the movie "21"? Young, naive kid gets led into a surreal, gambling world with promises of riches. Kid then screws up and is out on his own and in massive debt. Kid must look for ways to overcome this and dig himself out of the ****hole he has created for himself. Hmm maybe I have an over-active imagination.
Since when does a movie have to be all "flash" anyway? Pretty sure the main purpose of most films is for entertainment, I can honestly say that I was entertained by this story (whether fiction or not) and the subsequent chain of events.

Didn't understand your last paragraph as I missed the bit about the sand/ pebble beach itt. But yes, I travelled through Southern France in 2006 and know about that the beaches there are pebble-like as opposed to sand. Did OP claim it was a sandy beach? Might be a simple memory lapse or OP simply might have fabricated the whole thing and butchered a small detail such as this. I'm not saying I 100% believe OP but it definitely would not surprise me at all if in fact this whole was true.
