I really don’t have that many to share..when I would make dumb choices on the casino floors..I only played with cash on me..never cash advances..but I once went on a heater at 5/10 NL and was thinking I’m gonna win 100k in a $100 slot!!! Threw 2k in a machine at Borgata..gone in less than a minute..also last time I was in Vegas I crushed 2/5 @ Bellagio all week but basically broke even due to roulette..I don’t mess with casino floors anymore..straight to the poker room

How much did you punt on roulette after 2/5?

Usually I would play roulette first..so I think I would lose and then have a winning poker session..maybe I’m up a little from poker for that week..this was years ago..but I remember I was mad at myself for even playing roulette..I’ve won big on roulette quick before..so I’ve degened pretty bad with that ($50 on one number etc)..I started playing poker again in September..I only played slots once and I played $20 on roulette..I try not to tempt myself by walking through the floors..I’ll be staying at Borgata this weekend ..going directly to the 2/5 tables

Never ever got into table games other than BJ and then a friend got me to degen it up in roulette at like $0.25 bets or something silly in Cambodia

Ever since then I like randomly approaching a table and running a highly correlated play revolving my birthday (connected squares) for a few bucks when I got to kill some time before a table opens etc etc

Ever since then, whenever I walk past a roulette table and see "my numbers" recently hit I'll be filled with regret for not showing up earlier and playing even if at this moment I wasn't going to play anyway

I normally avoid all that stuff and am able to disconnect emotions from math and statistics but roulette always gets me. Fortunately I keep the indulgence limited to pocket change but I could easily see myself making exceptions and breaking that rule after a bunk and it being a slippery slope from there on out.

Human psychology is a mystery

I go HAM with 28 and 35..it’s been over 5 years since I really tried to win money at roulette..good thing I’m pretty disciplined with playing poker only..even if I have a losing session I don’t really chase at all..let’s say if I lose 3 BI’s..I’ll just drive home

Yeah I don't get the doing flips on uncorrelated odd/even black/red stuff, I'd rather do blackjack or baccarat instead

But man that rush when your numbers hit and you see a massive pile pushed your way... That's why even when just walking past without any inclination to play I'll take a peek at the board that shows recent history and be happy when my numbers aren't there and really pissed off I wasn't there playing earlier if they hit a couple times

I never get fomo watching other table games, in fact, I don't when know how to play craps etc etc but roulette...

Yeah I’m complete out of control with roulette..if I throw $100 on the table and lose..I’m gonna chase..same thing with like $10 slots (lol)..I just try to avoid putting myself in these situations..I played slots once since September and that’s cuz I had like $60 in my pocket (quick loss) and I only played $20 leaving the Borgata for fun..but I know not to try any of them when I first get there..if I’m in the middle of a poker session I have zero desire to play anything else..I try to stay focused

I never played BJ/craps/or bet sports

Here’s a very quick funny degen story. Most of my degen stories are depressing but I found this one hilarious.

This happened maybe 4 months ago. Need about 10k to pay some min payments and keep things going. At this time sports is just not working and I’ve cut off black jack. So what do I do? I’m playing heavy slots. Not heavy like I used to (did 40k one month straight losses but recovered it w sports and wasn’t mega busto) but heavy as in $100-200 a day or whatever roll I had built off sports. I keep signing up to new casinos because I always self exclude after a session. Plus you get a 100% bonus and I’m playing to turn that $200 into 5-10k anyways making the rollover irrelevant most of the time.

I sign up to a new casino and deposit $250 and get a double up. Go to book of dead slot and bust. Decide to deposit another $50 because they were giving a 2nd deposit bonus. I go back to book of dead and hit a bonus on a $3 spin. Boom $1400. Take that $1400 to doghouse and win another $1100 immediately. Now I’m at $2500. Decide to go to sword and the grail and do $5 a spin till I meet rollover. I put it on fast play and roll over in literally no time.

Now I’m sitting ay about $2700 and decide to go blackjack. They don’t have any regular BJ just the live garbage which tilts me to beyond belief. I don’t think online casinos are rigged..I mean it’s a profitable business without the rigging why would anybody rig it? But there’s just something about the damn live dealers that makes me fishy.

Anyways I’ve played $10-$20 a spin many times with a few k behind me and slots has never worked for me so I decide to go to BJ. They had free bet BJ which means every time there’s a double or split they pay for it - catch is if dealer has 22 it’s a push. I start with $500 hands and I literally won 5 in a row. I’m playing one spot the entire time. I get to about $4400 after a couple losses and decide to place a $2.5k bet. If I win I leave..if I lose I leave. $1900 withdrawal is solid from an online casino I will just send it to an ewallet and put it on a parlay. If I get to 7.5k I’m 2.5k away from target.

Lucky for me I bet the 2.5k and end up with 11. Free double. It was against a 10. I double and now if I win I win 5k. I get 21!! Dealer turns over a 9. I’m at $9900. I’m so happy and decide let’s just try and get to 10k. Now you know how the story goes..you chase that last measley amount and you go bust. I’ve had 40k wanting 45k and have lost the entire balance. I’ve had 980 wanting 1k and have lost the balance. So I know exactly how this goes. But out of maybe 8-9 hands I’ve lost max 2 so I’m feeling it. I go to place $1k even though I just wanted to win another $100 lol. I accidentally mis click the chip and place $100 instead of $1k. I lose. I should be over the moon because I just saved $900 and it was a valuable lesson. But no - I decide to continue playing for fun. I have 9.8k behind..$100 hands won’t hurt! I’m playing one spot for a $100. I get no free bets and no winning hands for about 14 hands straight (no exaggeration).

Now I’m mega tilted. I up it to $500. Keep losing. Then with about 5k or so left I do 2.5k with some side bets. Can’t remember exactly but I lose the hands but won a side bet and have about $300 left. Lol. I take this $300 slamming it all in all the way up to $4800. Table max is $10k. I get a 10 vs a 6 and the hand is for $4500 and $300 in side bets. Side bets brick but I have a free double vs a 6! This is for $9k PROFIT. Plus the $4.5k! I free bet double and I get an 8. I’ll take it. 18 vs a 6! Dealer turns over a 3 he has 9 I feel dead. He gets a 5 and now he has 14 and I can’t believe it! Next card 5. 19. Bust.

The end. Self excluded.

Well no one is playing it but the game is on the TV doing the demo. All of the sudden 2 teams start playing a game, the computer is simulating a game. So naturally I ask him who he wants. He laughs and says what? I say let's bet on this. So we bet the game, with a minimum of one inning for action. I end up losing in the bottom of the 1st on a 3 run HR.

Bet on Madden all the time in college and after. Highest bet I think was $200 on a best of 3. We also bet rushing attack where I pwned everyone in sight. I cleaned up the one night for like $400. We played every day for about 5 hours me and my roommate freshman year. It got really intense we would usually play from like 9pm until 3 am or something. There weren't many parties but on weekends we would take a break and drink. Anyway we were both getting pretty good. We heard that some kid in another dorm thought he was awesome but people saw him and said he was all talk. So we get him over to our dorm. We played on the big screen they had hooked up in our lobby. Well we had someone go get this kid and told him to bring money. We then set it up where my friend would beat my ass like 28-0 in the first quarter and make it look like I sucked. So then I "quit" and ask the kid from the other dorm if he wants to play just for fun. He says yeah. We play and I let him go up 21-0 real fast. He does the same play a screen pass with Green Bay every time. So then I say "we usually play for like $5 do you want to just to spice it up?" And he's like yeah yeah. So we play and I give him a better game losing like 28-14 before I give up in the 4th. I say man that was rough...he's like yeah do you wanna play for more? I'm like idk...maybe one for $20. So now I know I can get him, and I turn it on. I beat him real good and have like 4 INTs in the first half. I'm using New England who is like a 99. Now he's getting itchy and wants his money back. We up the bet to $50. I win. He says "one more game" and we play for $100. And of course I totally obliterate him by over 50 points. I even kicked a 65 yard FG (with the wind of course) just for fun. Like I backed up the ball from his 20 back to around the 40 so I could kick a 60+ yarder. Just toying with him, going for every 4th down (not that there were many) etc. I even injured Favre and just laughed uncontrollably for about 5 minutes when they said he wasn't coming back into the game.

The first night of college we get a home game going. $5 buy in. lol. I ask if there are rebuys and they say sure. So first hand I bustout. Rebuy. Bust. Etc. I am in the game for like $50, everyone else is in for their original $5. So there is $80 in the pot and $50 is mine. Finally I get AA. Someone raises and I re-raise and he calls. At the end the board is like JJ223. He goes all in and I call. He shows KK, and claims that there is a split pot because of 2 pair on board. It was like 50/50 as far as the other players agreeing with him or me. I'm like are you serious and finally convince people that I win. I go on to bust the table and net like $30.

Back to Madden betting we are playing rushing attack me and my friend's little brother. I was 23 and he was like 15 at the time. We play just for $1. I am pummeling him and he wants to play for $5. So of course I say ok. We randomly pick teams I get Detroit and he gets San Diego. Detroit was really bad that year, I think it was Madden 08. And SD has LT at his prime. Whatever. We are playing and I start off on offense. I have a really horrible run and am at like 2k points. He racked up a lot of fumbles and tackles for a loss so he's at like 1900 points. All he really has to do is score once and he wins. Well I start off hot with a few tackles for loss. We are neck and neck but he's on the goal line. All of the sudden his dad walks down and goes "HEY guys what's going on???" and walks right in front of the TV. I smack LT for a loss and the kid is saying "get the **** out!! get the **** out!! move" and his dad is like oh oopps and moves over. So down to the last 10 seconds really close game and then I get no joke 3 fumbles in a row and end up winning. The kid screams and smashes his controller and starts yelling at his dad. The whole time my friend and his g/f are laughing their ass off and I collect my $5.

Acey-deucy was one of my first gambling games when I was about 12. We played for an ante of 50 cents. The game is easy to play. You get 2 cards face up. Ace high and 2 is low. If you want to bet, you can bet any amount up to the pot, or pass. If you bet you get another card, if it's between your 2 cards you win, if not you lose. So ace-2 is an auto-pot. 8-9 is an auto pass. Well we are all 12-13 years old and betting it. Start with 50 cent ante. We had all our spare change probably about $150 total between 4 of us. The pots are really small until this one hand. My friend gets K-4. He bets pot. Lose. Few hands later he gets A-2. He's all excited and goes pot. Loses. Well by now the pot is pretty high so we decide to stop and count it out. $55.50. That was pretty nuts for us since we got allowances of like $5/week. Anyway someone else ends up getting K2 and pots it and wins. The one kid who lost the majority of the pot goes home broke and crying.

Ok I'm done telling stories for now time to play poker.
Betting on the simulated baseball game is amazing

I quickly became hooked and since you only had to be 17 to gamble at the track, i quickly started blowing paychecks and maxing out ATM daily limits. Once i started college, instead of being at class I'd be at the track. Never really won anything big, a few times I had some near 5k wins (woulda been a lot for me at the time). Anyways so this is pretty much destroying my life, u know the whole lying to family & g-friend, maxing out C-cards w/cash advances, overdrawing bank account etc. I musta been stuck about 30k from age 17-21. @21 of course I added the casino to my list of hobbies. Craps, BJ, and even video poker. Had mild success but mostly losses thru about a year of playing.

Now, here comes the COMPLETE TRAIN WRECK. So after always blowing off g-friend, she breaks up w/me (together for 5 years). I dont care at the time & am only thinking about gambling, still going to the boats and track. By now I'm so far in debt and working at sh**ty min wage job I decide to do a 'smart' thing and withdraw from college the 1st week (I was a senior going into this final year...bye bye education). I got a refund check of about 5k. I feel like a baller as I proceed to go every day to the boat with the money and playing in the high limit baccarat room. The 1st day was almost a disaster as on the way there about 8am I approached a toll plaza and 'thought' that I had seen the gate go up after throwing the coins in. Well with the sun shining directly in my face, I proceed to drive through. Problem: the gate never went up, and I smashed right through it leaving a big yellow smattering of paint across my windshield. Im so scared that I get off at the nearest exit and proceed to the casino through side streets and thought for sure I was gonna get pulled over or somethin. So maybe this was a bad sign of things to come b/c i kid u not from buying in w/5k betting 100/200/300 a hand i was left with $350. To make a long story short, after 12 hours I make a miraculous comeback and end up winning about 800 for the day (this included a $500 Lay against the 10 on the dice table that hit on the 1st roll lol). I proceed to go back 3 days in a row w/my whole roll and win between 500-1000 each day. Finally the 4th day I'm getting killed, mega-tilting, and proceed to blow the whole roll betting 500, 800, even 1000 a hand. It was so pathetic that when i was down to my last couple hundred I had 'check-changed' for red chips. The pitboss comps me and my friend a whole pizza afterwards. Most expensive $7500 freakin pizza i've ever eaten in my life. Only thing I wanted to do was drive off the expressway exit ramp into this giant quarry that was there. My dad finds out, kicks me out of the house, and now i'm homeless staying in motel 6's in run down areas b/c theyre only like 28 bucks a night and i had a tiny bit of room on my credit cards. Every night i pulled out my bottle of vodka and a pocket knife and i would contemplate that 'thought'. Finally my mom takes me in and i get a job (o i forgot to mention that when i dropped outta school, i got fired from my job for not showing up b/c i was at the boat from like 8pm til 11am). Oh and top of all this my dad convinces me to file for bankruptcy b/c im in mega c-card debt and they were all comin after me for collections and court proceedings. Do any of u know anyone that filed for bankruptcy at 21????

So now livin w/mom i decide to join the world of online poker. (I had just lost $5000 to my bookie on NCAA BB that I never paid off so I was chasing that with poker) B/c this is so long already i'll just try to summarize. Here is a quick list of the pokers sites i played and what happened to me on them....Paradise - banned b/c I wrote multiple bad echecks thru fire pay. Pacific - banned myself from losing too much. Absolute - banned myself after mulitple poker losses and losing paycheck in 30 minutes on the blackjack. Party Poker - ran BJ up to $12,000 and lost it all in the next night. Banned myself. Bodog- banned b/c they say I bounced an echeck.
Then I started doing bad things at my job to fund my poker/casino/horse habit. I started 'borrowing' the closing deposit from my work. The 1st time I had almost lost it playing BJ at the boat but got lucky to get it back and break even. Not learning that I almost had a disaster, the very next night I did it again and lost the whole deposit (like $1200). I had to tell my dad and he gave me the money to put in the store's bank so that no one would find out the next day at closing. So now i'm chasing again and decide to take a title loan on my car for 1500. Lose that at the track an hour later. F*ck!! Why am i so degen?! Mom kicks me out b/c of my gambling and dad takes me back in. I take out 2nd title loan and payday loan to pay off the 1st so i dont lose my p.o.s. car to the repo men. Now i'm really chasing so i start writing 'credit card checks' to myself w/the new post-bankruptcy credit card i got and take the $ out before it gets denied. Did this 3 days in a row and blew all the money at the track each day. C-card gets shutdown after this as well as bank being negative 800.

I finally move away and get back into school for 2 classes so that i could get a financial aid refund of like 5k. The 1st week im a good boy and pay bills and dont gamble. But sure enough i get on a huge BJ rush at the casino. Up like 2200 in 4 days. 5th day i go to the OTB (off track betting for horses) IDK why i did, but i went busto there. So pissed, i proceed to blow my 5k student aid refund chasing on BJ and baccarat. Get dropped from school b/c i stopped going getting F's in both classes (1st time in over 90 credits i ever got an F). I had so many comps on my casino card that I just ate meals there everyday since i had no $ to buy store-food. Eventually cable got shut off. Electric almost got shutoff until i echecked them and negged like 500 again in another bank. I evenutally ran outta comps and had to have mom send me oatmeal and other crap that i lived on. As a last chance before getting evicted i was invited to blackjack tournament w/108 ppl where top 7 got paid. 1st got 10k, 2nd 2500, etc. I finished 6th b/c 2 guys below me in $$ passed me on final hand. 1st guy doubles down on 14 (vs a 3 up card) and gets a 6, 2nd guy splits 10's and gets a another 10 and a 2; he splits the 10s again and gets another 10 and stays, and he doubles on the 12 and gets a 7 to make 19. So I take $250 for 6th place, 4th and 5th got 750 each. My rent was $750, due in 4 days. B*tch! So I take the 250 to the bacarrat table tryin to get to 750 and i get to about 625 before mega cooler and ultimately go broke. I get evicted eventually. I am now 27 living in dads basement completely broke, collecting 111/week unemployment and 99/month food stamps in mega debt w/credit score of probably negative-something and collectors calling me 17 times a day. I have also put on about 45 lbs from depression. FML

Beats (the bad ones): lost 5-year g-friend, bankruptcy at 21, mega student loan debt, college career f'd, lost 12k party poker BJ in 1 night, 7500 lost on baccarat in 1 day, multiple bank accounts overdrawn, almost got car repo'd, evicted.

There is so much more but this already too long. Sorry guys for making it so long. And I wish like some of the other stories on here I coulda captured my emotions better through all those times. O and I'll mention 1 more thing. During 2 days in my APT the casino gave away free apple pies for video poker play. I had no comps at the time or $ for store-food (f'ing degen me i'd rather use my last $1.25 for a spin on video poker than for a box of macaroni and cheese at the store). So for 2 days straight I ate apple pie for breakfast lunch and dinner. And I didnt have any freakin milk.
EPICNESS

He responded (in a pissed off voice,) "I said break it." Everyone at the table was stunned and everyone simultaneously agreed that he didn't ask her to break it. He kept complaining about it and asked her to call a floor, and since no one wanted to wait for this ordeal to be sorted out I threw the guy $3 back, and as I did so did the guy to the left of him (me and the other guy are both regulars and were sitting on each side of him.) This last part is the best, and I swear to god, he took both of our $3 and racked his chips and cashed out. The worst part about this whole thing is he sucked out on me for that $100. Needless to say, total ****ing degen.

tl;dr Guy tips dealer $5 after winning $100 pot. He wanted dealer to break. He never asked. He lied about asking and called a floor over. Me and other reg give him $3 simultaneously so there's no need for floor. He takes both $3, racks chips, cashes out, and leaves.

I'm down around 3k this week and a total of 5-6k for this month (including coke expenses)
I think i didn't sleep for 3 or 4 days (not sure) also not sure if i ate anything during time but was excited about pissing blood and vomiting for the last day, even though i didnt have any food.
I am also super happy as I managed to degen some money at slots as I've not done that for about 7-10(years)

He had it way easier. His debt was smaller plus he had a business under his name + two properties. His fix was easy imo

This is probably a ridiculous question but figure, I will ask anyway. With all these horrific stories, has anyone ever taken a small bankroll(less than $5,000) and degenerate gambled on table games, slots, or sports betting, turned it into 6 figures, and just walked away while ahead and never gambled it away?

That's actually a decent question and there must be people who have done something like that, just not sure they will be in this thread.

Sometimes I smash for 2-3k and leave. Buy some stuff. Pay some bills.

I won 55k on a casino last week and ran 22k on 50 bets trying to get rich. Also I had no money at the time of the get rich plan.

I turned £800 into over 20 grand at the last football world cup. The one with the round ball. Granted I spunked 5k back on extraordinarily stupid bets and kept that part a secret, but still...people do get away winning good sums sometimes.

After reading through this thread, I’ve been inspired to post my degen story.

So, I started playing online poker in roughly 2007 during 2nd year university. I would only deposit small amounts of $50 or $100 and try and grind it up. Usually, I would get my bankroll up to $1000-$5000 and either tilt off my entire bankroll (usually through martingaling Heads-up games on Full Tilt) or have the senses to withdraw my last $1000 and start over. This went on up until Black Friday where I had $5000 on my Full Tilt account frozen. (I was probably break even at poker at this point despite all the spewing I did because of small initial deposits). I got really depressed from Black Friday and really weened down on playing poker for a year. As a Canadian, I got my Full Tilt money back and within a week I had spewed away the entire $5000.

This was 2011 and was one of the hardest years of my life. My girlfriend and I broke up, I had lost that $5000, I had a criminal charge against me (long story but it was eventually overturned), after living in downtown Toronto for school and having no job and no career goals, I was basically stone dead broke and I had to move in with my mom. (My dad is fairly wealthy - doesn’t give me many handouts but basically has always took care of my finances like paying for my Toronto apartment rent and food allowance etc).

A month into living with mom and being basically broke, my grandma gave me $25,000 in cash to encourage me to buy a car for myself. So, I spent about $10,000 on things I felt like I needed like a new laptop, clothes, basically things that made me happy to get me out of that depression. I deposited $5000 on PokerStars and because of tilt issues, I blew it in about a month. I then deposited my last $10,000 on PokerStars (this was about a year into living with my mom). I finally decided to move out to Nova Scotia and secured a really shitty job - I knew absolutely no one out here but because of the year of being depressed at my mom’s, I really wanted to escape from everyone around me. My brother helped me move my belongings there and I kid you not. The day he drove back, I lost my job then logged onto PokerStars and proceeded to blow $9000 sitting at 25/50NL and $2000 HU SNGs. I cashed out my last $1000. I was so ****ing depressed for a week after this. I had $1000 to my name, I had no job, no friends, I was in a totally foreign province and couldn’t believe what I did. For a week, I did nothing but stayed in bed, cried, contemplated suicide and watched suicide documentaries etc. Eventually, I pulled myself together, got another shitty job and convinced myself to control tilt issues and deposited a $100 on Stars. I actually played very controlled and had learned a lot of emotional control and got it up to $600 playing strictly micro stake poker.

(This is about 2014) It was then where through a friend I worked with, he got me into playing Magic: The Gathering (I had played the game when I was a kid too). I stopped playing poker completely and spent most of the money I would get from paychecks on MTG cards. I eventually amassed a collection valued at about $15,000. I actually had a lot of success in Magic - even finishing in the Top8 of a 2000 player tournament which netted me $2000 and a free trip to Hawaii. Anyways, fast forward to 2018 - I since moved back to Ontario closer to family, live in an apartment with a new girlfriend that my dad bought for me, got a decent job that allowed me to save etc.

In 2018, I had $3000 in savings, still not really having touched poker again since I got invested in MTG. I live near a casino and started going there recreationally for fun - and eventually got hooked on roulette. Spun the $3000 into close to $10,000 and proceeded to spew off the entire $10,000 at the roulette wheel. I was pretty crestfallen and by then I was disenfranchised with Magic: The Gathering and sold my entire collection for about $12,000. I then proceeded to blow about $7000 of that at the roulette wheel again. After this, I started playing on PokerStars again. I deposited usually around $500, ran it up to about $1500 and tilted off the entire amount. (This happened probably about 5 times). Last month, I ran a $500 deposit to about $6000, lost $1000, got sensible about things and withdrew $5000. I still have that $5000 in cash in my apartment and have about $2500 extra on PS and I’m trying really hard to be sensible about things. The plus is that in a pretty good position right now given that I have a place, a girlfriend and a solid job.

Sorry for the long post.
