there are 87,000 more of these hands, he's playing 80/70 with lots of 10x raises going uncalled, and he's exhibiting perfect restealing vs. open folding with big hands behind him over and over. Payup is account #5 for sure. Who wants to go down the list of 1K winners?

Scientific Method.
Assumption: The cheaters could actually see the hole cards.
Theory 1: Cheaters are a rogue group of hackers who somehow hacked into AP's servers and compromised hole card information
Theory 2: Cheaters actually work for AP and used "security" accounts or "super" accounts to view the hole cards

Prediction-Theory 1 If theory 1 is correct, the expected response from AP would be swift. The accounts would be closed, a press release issued to their customers detailing exactly what happened, and then a detailed response about how they will ensure this kind of security breach will never happen again.

Prediction-Theory 2: The response from AP would be slow, and perhaps non-existent. They would drag their feet while formulating an excuse, and perhaps release a few small PR's to judge public response-basically, what we're seeing right now.

qft and well said these seem like the only two viable options to me as well at the moment.

whoever is doing this obviously is not covering up well and I believe can be caught.
Just from a marketing standpoint, there's no way they would take the steps in theory 1. This isn't politics where they're doing spin control with a media that already knows about this. The people who know about this constitute a small % of their actual player base. Sending out a press release "AP gets hacked!" makes about as much sense and Dunder Mifflen calling a press conference to apologize for an obscene watermark.

Whether they got hacked or it was an inside job, their line would be to contain, kill the accounts behind closed doors, and hope the suckers never find out about it. And as some here have implied, they can do that with the understanding that most thinking players will cooperate, because publicly calling into question the legitimacy of the game kills everyone's golden goose, not just Absolute's.

Think about it. If you go to some live game with a bunch of awful players tonight, would you tell them about how Absolute is rigged? Or when they talk about how they always lose, will you just laugh at them and ask if they need help redepositing?

He said there were 87,000 (obv exaggeration) of them.. I am going to guess he sorted through enough of them and is having problems formatting them so it isnt worth his time to post them..

if the mod wants me to email him my whole HH he can either ask me or have adnathar forward it to him as I emailed it to him

I am also confident that if anyone else in the tourney who was at payups table sent theits in, the puzzle would be fairly complete.

I am the last person to ever subscribe to any conspiracy theory regarding anything at all, but when I was playing the abs 1k on august 22 a few weeks back I was on AIM with Inissint and he was telling me about this player "payup" who was just winning literally every hand on another table....He eventually got moved to my table and then left and back again and eventually beat me hu, but it really was fairly unreal. I do not have the patience to sift through this whole hh to weed out the hands payup was in, but if anyone is so inclined they can do the honors......

and if I am wrong about payup, I apologize in advance, although if he is out there, I am so confident that I will pay him 1k for his exposed hole cards hand history so long as it can be authenticated.

and if there is any way to condense this I pre-authorize the mods to do so.

also, as I recall, "Thegrinder" was at his table for a long time as well (not michael mizrachi...thegrinder plays on stars as dumpingkgb and as pxfactor on ftp if anyone knows him maybe they can get him to find his hh)

edit...never mind, it is way too big, but i will email it to whoever can condense it and post it...please pm me

This is terrible logic. Prediction #1 would never happen regardless of who is cheating.

Casaubon,

I think you might be underestimating the impact of not just 2+2, but every major poker forum online. Gone are the days where people blindly fumbled through the inter-webs. Most people who sign up and play online poker are savy enough to find most of these forums and read them for information.

cliffnotes: Internet forums that deal with internet poker = media that deal with everyday life.

You're also assuming that people in the press don't read this messageboard. The lack of damage control is disturbing, to say the least.

how do you see complete lists of MTT results for individual players in the DB? Is that an subscription option?

No, I just think you're vastly overestimating the impact of this message board. There's a sense of "we are the center of the poker universe" here that is deeply out of whack with the rest of the universe.

It's a disturbing story, I've moved all my money off the site because of this, but to say, as that post does, that "A lack of response by Absolute implies (proves?) it was an inside job" is completely dishonest and utterly contrary to all rules of marketing, pr, and the way corporate hacks think.

Any guesses as to what percentage of Absolute players will still play on the site and know nothing about what went on?
95%?

It would be interesting to find the bustout hands in the previous high buyin tourneys for the cheating accounts. Obv sucked out or called by a hero with marginal.

If I were on eof those players who lost $50K+ to one of these guys and I didnt get recouped or some osrt of sexy apology. I'd spent a couple days making sure everyone knew about it

Might not be of much help but got affiliate newsletter from AP today and it contained this info:

"Absolute Poker and the Absolute Poker website are solely owned and operated by Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG, Route 138, Kahnawake, Quebec J0L 1B0. Tokwiro Enterprises ENRG is owned by a Mohawk of Kahnawake and is operated from the sovereign nation of the Mohawks of Kahnawake, located near Montreal Quebec. The Mohawks of Kahnawake have an aboriginal right to conduct online gaming that is recognized and protected by the Canadian Constitution.

Absolute Poker is licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission that enforces regulations designed to ensure, amongst other goals, that: (1) only suitable persons/entities operate within Kahnawake; (2) all games offered are fair to the player; and (3) all winners are paid. "

What is the logic behind them entering tournaments and clearly trying to be the first few out? Is this a sign of obvious chip dumping or simply a cover up for the later big score?
09-18-2007 , 04:42 PM
Gbecks I think most believe the cheating did not start until the new ap interface was out.

lol this looks like my tourney database last year back when I played tourneys on PTY. lose, lose, lose, lose, ZOMG, lose, lose
09-18-2007 , 04:49 PM
At this point it looks like Absolute discovered the PAYUP account before everyone here did. They must have some information on how these accounts were "cheating" - otherwise they would not have discovered PAYUP - unless someone here let them know. At least they are doing some research without the help of the angry mob.

It also looks like these were fairly unused/low limit accounts prior to the recent update. Somewhere around the middle of August. Anyone have an exact date on this?

PS - Who was talking about this at TOKYOHANA in HOUSTON, TX last night?? Out yourself plz....
