Be warned. Google is unpredictable and often changes their search algorithm. You can spend $1000s on SEO only to find that google changes their algorithm and you are back to square 1. This doesnt happen often, and is usually a result of using black hat SEO techniques, but it does happen.

Sometimes when I see what people pay shady SEO people, I curse my conscience for not being like them.

An affiliate program where you get tons of inbound organic links is one of the best ways to set up incoming links; do you have something like that setup?
Yeah, we aren't doing anything currently as far as customized content for each state. The core application and the key benefits are the same across each state, so no big bang there compared to the work involved (for now).

As far as affiliate program, since our software is pretty enterprise in its complexity and requires quite a bit of sales work/intimate knowledge, that's not really something I see us pursuing, definitely at least in the near term.

It's interesting to think about where we could get legit backlinks.

If you can get something to the top of a social network for a bit then you usually get a lot of backlinks/tweets very easily. The difficulty is getting to the top though. We've been on HN once which got us around 8,000 visitors in hours. This spawns a lot of interest.

A lot of luck involved though admitedly. Always worth going for reddit/digg/HN etc.

2.4.3 ouch . Anyways, it looks like iglob is pure python anyways, so you should just be able to copy the source and give it a shot.

For iOS development does anyone know if you can have the UDID from your device associated with multiple developer accounts? We're doing internal testing and a friend of mine wants me to beta test one of his apps. Before I have him add my UDID as a device on his account I want to make sure there aren't going to be any issues.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Pretty sure I came across your site via Hacker News actually... building HTML 5 games using non technical tools. Looks pretty awesome.

yes, good luck trying to download any reports.

The reports suck ass big time, it's amazing how little you can do with them. The CSV download is the only semi useful thing I'm going to have to write my own parser for it I think.

I don't get why Paypals website is so slow.

Probably because their security is so awful that their entire database gets hacked into about 8 times a day, so they keep adding more and more security to make things "better."

I take it you don't have a merchant's account with them yet?

Just wait until you actually have to start getting money from them.

Yeah we got a Paypal pro account with them. It might be something to do with TDD where it's too expensive difficult and long to actually add anything useful. I wish they would just plug a few more servers or w/e into it.

How the hell is Firefox on version 8.0 now? Wasn't 4.0 a big deal like yesterday? Are their version numbers increasing exponentially with time?

Yeah they announced a while back they were going to update similar to Chrome. Pushing more frequent major updates. Chrome has only been out a few years and it's on version 15.

I think they're trying to move away from version numbers being a big deal. Similar to Chrome as well. No one really worries about what version of Chrome they're running. They just no they're running Chrome and it basically stays current.

Chrome also auto-updates, is silent about it, and etc.

And Firefox still requires you to restart the whole ****ing browser after you install a plug-in. Totally unacceptable, especially since tabs are individual processes now. That's the whole point of that - modular design and separation of processes from one another. So stupid.

semi-related question: i think chrome is currently the holy grail of deployment for desktop software. any similar or better examples come to mind?

Extensions modify the basic chrome of the browser in Firefox. They're basically stuck with restarting on any update/install unless they change the entire setup (which would, for example, make Firebug impossible)

quick question: i want to test out some possibly sketchy software and don't have a VM installed on my laptop. is it possible to create a temporary instance on amazon and test it there? they seem to have only server images available, but i want to test on a win7 desktop. any ideas? (sandboxie won't work fwiw)

yeah

i can't think of a simple solution to your question. i guess you can spin up an AWS thing with win7 but by the time you figure out how and connect to it you could... get a copy o win7 and install it in vbox probably

Windows 7 Enterprise 90-day Trial

It's made for exactly that, testing.

If you have an account with AWS and have used it before, then setting up a windows box is pretty strait forward and quick.... You have the added advantage that you wont need to install windows as it comes on a preinstalled image.... you just need to select the right AMI.
