By the way, looks like because of her contract a lawsuit is really difficult. It's arbitration and there can't be any sort of joint/class action lawsuit.

Not that that really matters.

Having been in a couple of lawsuits myself I wouldn't bet the ranch on it. Definitely why you hire a lawyer. It is amazing how bad layman are at legal arguments:

I can easily believe the stuff that happened to her. What I find ridiculous is HR's response. What kind of clown show are they running over there? Some of the HR staff she refers to were also women. How can they be that incompetent? I guess I just assumed HR staffs would err way more on the side of caution.

And now it looks like the guy who left Google to build driverless trucks for Otto downloaded and stole over 14k documents totaling 9.7gb from Google to start their effort.

The clownshow continues to deliver.

So basically he just gave Google another subsidiary. Nice.

Big company HR departments generally have the following priorities in this order:

1. Help themselves.
2. Help the company.
3. Help the employee.

They erred on the side of covering up the issue and not causing problems with 'high performing' individuals. Sadly, not surprising to me at all.

It sounds like a pretty bizarre bug; The are replacing a parser that grew too complex to support. The bug was in that parser but never expressed itself because of how nginx deals with buffers. The new parser changed the layout of buffers somehow so that the old bug could express itself.

In hindsight it is kinda crazy to allow so many companies to middle man huge portions of Internet traffic and not expect stuff like this to happen.

Wait until almost all web hosting is done by aws, Google and one or two other players. We usually have to get ****ed by a bad idea before we learn from it.

I doubt it's coming back in house though, the move to AWS is such a competitive advantage whose going to be able to afford having that competence and grow from a start up to successful business?

lol I'm bad at this. My game that I made a few months ago that sees some play got "hacked" by some guy who made a mongo table called "READ THIS" who wants me to send him .2 bitcoin. I then realized I don't have a password set for port 27017 connections. I should stick to front end obviously.

Youre not alone my friend. Although that has been going on since the new year, so you prob should have been checking more often :P.

Ive gotten hits daily at auth attempts since that started going around. Pretty annoying. Also keep in mind that like 80 people have done it by now, meaning no one would actually have your data saved, so the ransom is kind of moot. Feel bad for the people who were dumb enough to pay

The funny thing(s) to me about ransomware are
1. people pay them
2. paying them usually gets your stuff back

The weirdest thing is um why would I send you money? Its not like you can do anything other than drop the tables which basically means people have to spend 2 seconds to make a new account. I guess you could shut it down by automating it to drop all tables every 5 minutes or something, would have to think about it. And by you I mean someone with actual skill, not me.

And surprise surprise making mongo have auth is not as easy as you would think =/

Wow is 2 really true? Not in this case for sure though, even if the first ransom artist did copy your db, the next guy comes in and wipes a blank db and wipes out the old message as well.

Not only does adding auth suck, but their built in conf setting to limit ip address access doesnt work, so like every stack overflow tells you to do something that doesnt work.
