I have to download a specific Java SE DK and after being forced to create an Oracle account, in clicking download on the 240MB .dmg file Oracle lands me on an error page saying the max download size is 10MB.

I've been stuck on this Oracle step for 45 mins because for the last 40 mins the "create account" page was broken and it randomly loaded after hitting refresh about 100 times, in incognito mode on latest chrome with no extensions.

What a joyous experience and I have no clue how to get this particular version in a legit way now. Off to the nefarious parts of the web. What an absolute joke of a company.

installing maven and the JDK is generally a pain in the ass for me at work. I made a script to do it but it's still a little goofy sometimes.

I think this is the suzzer interview question. I've been doing a lot of leetcode because it is fun and I learn the 'rules' of these questions. How difficult they can be, how fair they are.

Depends on the interviewer. It might make sense for an open-ended problem, but not for an algorithmic question where you want to specifically test their knowledge of algorithms, data structures and problem-solving . When I ask programming questions to junior candidates, I'm usually rooting for them to get the problem right and for the interview to go smoothly. Nothing is more frustrating as either a candidate or interviewer when the candidate gets the problem wrong because he misunderstood the problem.

I was able to social engineer my way through oracles support line in 20 seconds and speak to a live person who told me my options were only on other websites as Oracle provides no support for Java and I could ask a live chat on one of the "free" websites a question for a "nominal fee". I think it was about that time I told him "If there is anyone ****ing competent at your company, you should tell them that thousands of downloads are broken and surely thousands of people are having issues downloading what is supposed to be an open source framework."

Seriously though I have a long list of things I need to do, but taking down that **** stain of a company is in there.

Salesforce and Amazon moving off them was great news. When I start companies I'm gonna ban any technology that touches that domain.

Yeah getting off Oracle was a huge motivator at my last company. We paid them like $30M/yr in licensing fees (at mega corp, before we got bought out by hyper-mega corp). And if you get off one product they just jack up the prices on the others. So you don't see any benefit until you completely cut the cord.

Other than quid-pro-quo deals, their last real new client must have been over a decade ago.

Rusty, or anyone else have any favorite books, videos, sites for learning AWS as a rank beginner?

Also of interest - favorite resources for learning DevOps or microservices architecture - particularly on AWS. I have a microservices book from when docker was just coming out and it's a whole new universe now.

Even with the diagram and the question in hand, I still don't understand what is even being asked. I tried leetcode before and had the same problem. Half the time, couldn't even understand what the question was even asking.
