height:100%;
background-color:red;
margin-right:auto;
margin-left:auto;
}
</style>

This code works when I haven't declared a doctype but as soon as i declare a doctype the height only covers the text area. Everything else about the program works fine so I don't think there's anything wrong with the rest of the syntax. It’ll work if I set the positioning to absolute but I would like it to stay in the center of the page. The searching i've done makes it seem like there should be nothing wrong with it.

A simple answer like, “you’re not using the right doctype” will suffice.
I know very little about this but different browsers react differently to having or not having a doctype. Have you tested the version that "works" in other browsers?

I used that for a couple years and really liked it. I ordered this one yesterday to take to work with me:

really looking forward to giving it a test drive.

Q: do many of you take your own gear to work? I tried to get IT to purchase me a decent monitor but had to settle for two crappy 1280x960 monitors. I'm also paying for my own keyboard (~$150).

I had my own mouse at work until it crapped out. I haven't bothered to get a new one yet. I would have my own keyboard, but it's a pain in the ass to carry on the train. The boss just bought all the developers new widescreen dual monitors, which are super sweet. There's no way he'll buy other custom hardware, though

I'm absurdly jealous of that split keyboard. It looks awesome.

Yeah I'm pretty pumped to get it. I'm sure it'll be an adjustment but I think having the keyboard split and my arms in a more natural position is really going to help with the neck/shoulder/wrist issues I've been developing.

It's going to be a huge improvement over the default IT dept supplied $10 keyboard no matter what it's like.

It's this kb btw http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/freestyle-solo-features.htm

I have a Kinesis Freestyle. I have to use a split keyboard because my wrists complain about the straight-on angle of a regular keyboard.

It has a quirk, at least on the Mac model. The odd fn-keys tossed over the function keys for no reason make so that you can't use escape and the function keys at the same time, though I got around that by remapping Esc to caps lock.

Though you may want to do that anyway given how far away they put Esc, if you care about Esc.

I'm going up using my own equipment because I want faster Macs than work will provide. I would always upgrade my keyboards because standard keyboards suck.

Thanks Neil...I'm a big believer in re-mapping caps-lock to be esc for easier vim-ing anyways

Sounds, like it's pretty common for people to use their own gear. Too bad some (most?) companies can't provide decent equipment for their developers.

I use a Microsoft Wireless Comfort 1.0a (just flipped it over to check lol, pretty old) - great keyboard, F terrible mouse, use logitech MX revolution instead). curved for nice to the wrists and it's got like a fairly hard gel cushion all across the front. love it for coding.

this is great. i need to place an IT request for a more ergo keyboard.

first time using a keyboard tray too, and i must say it is the nuts.

Trays are the best. I always had one at my place and hate it when there's not one if I need to use a computer for anything more than 2 minutes.

With the tray it's really easy to align your chair arm rests so there's 0 pressure on your hands/wrists without jacking up the chair height to some ridiculous level.

Caps Lock is a third Control key, you heathens

I so want a keyboard tray at work. I haven't talked to anyone about it, but I can already hear the boss whining about how ugly they are.

Mechanical keyboards are the nuts! I am buying a Das Keyboard eventually.

When I need something, my manager tells me to just send him a link to the product I want and he'll order it for me - so no

Didn't you say you are spending $150 earlier?

The das keyboards are like $100-130ish. They also last pretty much forever unless you spill stuff on it. Pretty sure they are rated for 40-50 million keystrokes while most non-mechanical keyboards are lucky to get 10 million.

I'd rather spend $100 on a great product than 3 or 4 $30 "meh" products.

Key feel seems pretty important to me. I mean, that is the action you're doing thousands of times a day, it should be a high priority to pick a keyboard that feels the best for you.

Yeah it is like $150 for the Kinesis. I'm not opposed to spending money on quality stuff obviously, I just personally wouldn't spend that money on a Das because it is not ergonomic and it's overly loud.

I think I hold a personal bias against ergonomic keyboards because I don't type properly. I have my own ******ed system where I can churn out 80-85 wpm with good accuracy but I only use a few fingers.

Split or very curved keyboards make me cry a little on the inside.

Most of the das models are very loud but they do have less noisy models.

anyone have experience with google app engine?

i'm a little confused about how it works and how much it costs, and all the pricing info is like cents/hr, whereas what i want to know is: "how much does it cost per month to run a small/medium sized website, like < 1M hits?" also how much ram do you get? is deployment easy?

any other thoughts based on your own experience?

i used to buy those old style IBM keyboards on ebay, they are surely the nuts. knowing for sure when a key is pressed helps typing immensely. i dont mind the loud sound. when i couldnt find those old IBMs anymore, i found this place:

http://www.pckeyboard.com/

they sell the same mechanical style keyboards for < $100 last time i checked. plus ive gotten used to the trackpoint from my thinkpad so its great to have it on a regular keyboard as well. moving the hand from keyboard to mouse and back is very time wasting

i have never heard of das keyboard but i will check them out too

a keyboard tray with negative (downward) tilt helped me a lot in respect to comfort and ergonomics. i could never get used to the split keyboards but allowing the arms to rest downward with the elbows open wider than 90 degrees is very nice. this is the opposite from the norm: youll see most keyboards have little legs that can be used to tilt the keyboard UP, which is worse for the wrists

i had a humanscale product but there are others as well

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the google apps engine isn't designed for webhosting is it?
