Dell 3007WFP display port problems Dell 3007WFP display port problems

Hi guys,

I recently bought a new laptop and its only got a VGA display port. The monitor Dell 3007WFP only has a DVI-D input. My graphics card is NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 850M - 2.0GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11.

I also bought this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com...+To+Dvi+Scaler in the hope that it would allow the VGA cable to connect.

I dont really want to buy a new monitor, or send the laptop back- any way around this?

Thanks

Try this instead

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Monitor-Disp...GA+male+to+dvi

I assume the problem is that your laptop has a female connection and the adapter you bought also has a female connection. If so, this should solve your woes.

If the monitor doesn't support scaling, which is likely with it only having one input type, chances are it maxes out at like 1280x800 even though the adapter would support up to 1920x1200.

The adapter Low Key linked won't work at all because it's DVI-I. It is physically incompatible and, most importantly, doesn't convert analog to digital.

There is no way to convert analog (or digital single-link) to digital dual-link without massive quality loss. Your best bet is a laptop docking station expanding the outputs to a native dual-link DVI-D, (mini)DisplayPort, or HDMI 1.4 (or 2.0).

Dvi-I/a/d is as annoying as DVD-R/+R

thanks for the replies guys. My friend thinks a HDMI into DVI-D may be able to support it- something like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Monitor-Disp...+hdmi+to+dvi-d

I may be confused and think he might have meant the display port though.

Up to 5Gbps signal strength. 24 bit / pixel, 165Mhz Max Clock frequency

With HDMI 1.3 or above it *might* work, maybe due to clock frequency limitations only with reduced framerate and/or color depth though. I'd think there have to be 1.3+ compatible adapters though.

Didn't you say VGA is your only option?

Taking the opportunity to fix my post:

I did, to be honest I'm very bad with computers and didn't even consider the hdmi port till I showed my friend a pic of the different ports.
How come some of the cables are 8x the price? Like this one? http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00L...AC_SX110_SY165

Is this one better than the original I posted, as it says it supports higher res(up to 4096x 2160 @24hz).

Thanks.

Ahh, just read through the wiki article- seems like the 2nd one linked here is v1.3 which has more of a chance of working.

It's not uncommon for laptops with HDMI to max out at 1920*1200. If that's the case a better cable won't help either. RTFM

Any chance to return the laptop and get one that's actually compatible with your monitor instead?

Yeah, i got it custom built(http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/48...-help-1456343/). I can send it back to them to include it, but im going away for 2 months in a week, so may be pushing it to get the changes made in time. I'll hear back from them tomorrow with what they can do timewise. I also spent quite a few hours transferring all the poker databases and setting it up for use before I realized about the monitor problems....and would like to try to avoid going through that all again!

the hdmi to dvi-d able maxed out at 1280x800 res. Baobhan- would a docking station like this:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Displ...g+station+dvid potentially work? I can just send it back if it doesnt

I don't even know how that's supposed to connect to your laptop; I always thought docking stations were model specific and connect through a big unique plug at the bottom of the laptop.

You spend what, 1200GBP for a custom built machine; I would assume the manufacturer is happy to offer you support, and I'd strongly suggest getting in touch with them.

Hey guys- thought id give an update, as just got it sorted. basically, as the other monitor is so old it can only run in 1280x800, or 2048x1152(think thats the right one). The hdmi could support just lower than this, so 1280x800 was my only option.
Bought the asus PB287Q 28in, which came today and supports 3840x2160 res, which im pretty thrilled about, as didnt realise how many more tables you could load up on it...and the 28in is easier to travel around with than the 30in.

Pretty tilting experience, but its probably worked out for the best having to get the new monitor.
