there's a point not so far from where we are now where it would actually be the smartest possible thing they could do.

haven't you seen all the "cliff lee is god" posts? he will want to pitch game 7 strongly enough that he will ensure victory in game 6 through willpower alone. if you don't believe in cliff lee just say so
