I put a heavy emphasis on good passers and avoided excessively ball-dominant players. That counted against Kareem Abdul-Jabbar even though his early '70s years were probably the more dominant than any player since then. The Walton choice may standout for someone who doesn't appreciate he was going to have an all-time great NBA career before the foot.
Walton was incredible that year.
As to Kareem being dominant, he was pretty dominant in college too.
I’ll never forget when the news wires lit up that the incoming Bruin freshman team with Lew Alcindor beat the reigning back-to-back national champ varsity in a pre-season game by 15.
Every program in the country just sighed and said ‘what the f can you do?’.
