TCU went on the ROAD to play a 16th ranked BYU, and shelled them 38-7.

Then USC jumps TCU in the rankings???

This could only happen if you were the mighty USC Trojans. The same trojans whose motto for the past 5 years is "on a neutral field, we are favorites against every Div 1 team, and the Detriot Lions."

You can't back it up, obviously, but it doesn't matter. The coaches and AP love hearing it. Thanks god the computers can't hear the noise.
You're demonstrating your absolute ignorance of how the system works. USC stayed in the exact same spot in the polls. They jumped TCU because the computers (that can't hear the noise) liked their win against Oregon State, a team that you think is awful but the computers obviously don't.

the problem is we don't really get computer rankings anymore
humans have influenced it where computers cannot use margin of victory if they are included in the BCS
it's pathetic
real computer polls do one hell of a job

current massey comparison-- best of fit consensus among 63 polls (more polls added as more models report)
1. Bama
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. TCU
5. Iowa
6. Boise St
7. Oregon
8. USC
9. Cincy

notice how real computers rate Iowa so much differently than the crummy human corrupted ones for the BCS rankings (yes... beating Northern Iowa and Ark St by a hair should count as a poor game, not a good one)

Miami will drops out of top 10, Oregon Ducks will move to 10, and my guess is USC/TCU flip spots 7/8 so that it is TCU/USC in 7/8 this week.

Interesting though, how the dynamics have changed. Instead of Fla/Bama as greater than the rest, and Texas looking shaky, we have the so called weaker or less proven teams looking good (Boise, Cincy, TCU) and a few of the power houses (fla/bama/USC) looking shaky, except for Texas.

Iowa looks vulnerbale, and LSU looks good.

My guess at this week's BCS

1. Florida - a tough go against a team they should handle
2. Bama - very, very lucky to be undefeated
3. Texas - moves back into the top 3 discussion
4. Boise - currently crushing Hawaii with a couple of mins left
5. Cincinnati - rolling along
6. Iowa - oops....looking shaky
7. TCU - win against ranked BYU should put them over USC..will it bump them past Iowa??
8. USC - Not helping their we- are -as -good- as- florida/Bama/Tex argument.
9. LSU - beat a tough team
10.Oregon - takes Miami's 10 spot

They do just good enough to win each week. It really helped to have their best game against their toughest opponent, and their opponent having their worst game that week.

2- UF- Though the game against MSU was less than overwhelming, UF dominated this game. The score probably should have been 16-3 at half, barring that Tebow pick six on MSU's 5 (or w/e it was). Tebow threw two pick sixes, and the score reflects poorly on UF's D, who played pretty well. Overall, still alot of problems on this team, namely: play calling, red zone issues, OL issues, etc...but D is still playing lights out, despite missing some of the top players.

3- UTexas- moved back up, looking solid. While Mizzou isn't fantastic, they are still a BCS school and winning on the road in the fashion they did was solid.

4. Cincy- I'm not sure how well cincy would match up against other top-10 teams on a neutral field, but they sure looked pretty impressive. With that said, ULouisville sucks a fat one, so I'm not putting TOO much into this win.

5. USC- Beat a good OSU team...I think USC still might be favored over some of the teams that are ranked ahead of them in the AP, but who knows.

6. TCU- don't really know where else to put them, they smashed BYU, who was a solid team. As a person who looks down upon these smaller conference schools, part of me wonders how good these teams really are...but I guess I can't deny their accomplishments. I think TCU is going to continue to rise, and eventually usurp BSU. I think BSU/TCU would be a pretty solid matchup as well (I think they played last year in the bowl? not sure).

7-10. have to eat lunch now, but don't really know. LSU looked really solid last night, good D and their O finally did something. iowa squeaked by, but as lapoker said, MSU is better than some of the other opponents that t-10 teams played vs. yesterday. I also dont know where to put PSU after that thrashing they gave.

the schedules of BSU, cincy and iowa are very comparable, but 4 of iowa's games have been decided by a field goal or less and none of those 4 teams are any good. BSU's smallest margin of victory was 7, and that was the only time they won by single digits. cincy's was 8, and that was also the only time they won by single digits

but your contention is that on this week alone iowa did better than cincy and BSU. i disagree with that, but it's a fair contention. even in that case, iowa is overranked to begin with and should count their blessings they're as high as they are

TCU actually moved up in both polls while USC stayed pat, and USC managed to jump TCU in the overall component. Just think about it.

The computers aren't allowed to use margin of victory, so as to deter teams from running up the score. A stupid solution that's worse than the original problem, an unusual thing coming from the BCS.

I understand what you're saying but elo-chess also has Iowa as the number 1. I'd like to hear how that system has human bias incorporated into it.

i dont need to think about it to realize that its absurd and how happy ill be when usc doesnt make the NC all thanks to washington. bias only gets a team so far.

Unless you have the worst contracts in the world, I'm fairly confident that teams can't just back out of games with you, Texas has to release them from their contract, which they probably agreed to do for some amount of money. Also, I checked up on the Utah series on google, and here's what I found for the supposed series:

Quote:
The series was cancelled at then coach Urban Meyer's urging because he thought it made Utah's schedule too difficult.
If Urban Meyer canceled a series with you and the team wasn't Florida, I think you had enough time to find another opponent if you really wanted to. Your team played a ****ty OOC schedule, deal with it.

I love how Florida squeaks by Arkansas with a ridiculous amount of help from SEC officials, Little Baby Jesus throws 2 pick 6's in a close game w unranked Missisippi St, Bama's scored 2 offensive TD's in the last 12 quarters, and barely survive Lane Kiffin's ineptness and it gets labeled as tough hard fought, smash mouth ,gritty, OMG Tebow SEC football. Texas plays 2 close games against OU(#13 in ur YPP model) and Texas Tech(#16 in ur YPP) and gets labeled as sloppy or unimpressive.

I think Texas defense is just as good as Florida or Bama. Theyre #2 in that adjusted YPP model, #1 in NCAA rushing defense stats, and #2 in NCAA's Total Defense and Texas offense has more upside than Bama or Florida imo.

Just because Texas may have released them from the contract for some consideration doesnt mean they can just call up USC or Ohio State, or some other potential top 25 team and convince them to back out of their contracts. AFAIK, teams backing out of contracts/series aren't normal course of business. Also, Texas signed contracts one month ago to play home and away series with Cal and Minnesota in 2015/16. If teams are scheduling that far in advance that should be further evidence its not that easy to just "find another opponent if you want to"

Yes, but you miss the point: if Texas really wanted that game, they could have said no. Sure, Arkansas may have initiated talks to get out of the game, but Texas had to assent.

Dudd- are you insinuating Texas was afraid to play Arkansas or Utah and therefore was quick to let them out of the contracts? FWIW, Texas did play the first half of the series w Arky last year and won 52-10.
