Have you actually been to the Pro Bowl? Sure the game is lame, but the parties are not.

Edit: and it's an easy win betting the over, just got bumped to a 30k spending limit

ROUND 2, PICK 63

I'm taking Brisbane. Or what RebeccaTwigley said, Australians refer to as Brisvegas. It's the 3rd largest city in Australia, but also the fastest growing. It's located a bit inland, but within an hour of another popular tourist locale, the Gold Coast. Brisbane seems to have a vibrant nightlife, Billboard mag even ranked it as one of the top 5 live music spots in the world.

Stuff to do:

Play poker legally at the Treasury Casino

Hang out on the Gold Coast

Surf

Club in the hipster area, Fortitude Valley (place is INSANE)

Chill on the beach in town itself

Visit the Crocodile Hunter's tomb

So basically chill/surf in Australia's biggest tourist destination by day, casino or listen to great live music by night.

Brisbane

I spent some time in Brisbane while I was living in Gold Coast. I'm not really sure you should be able to get both of them since they're pretty independent cities and 1 hour apart might be sort of generous. I suppose if you drove during the middle of the night an hour might be reasonable. Gold Coast >>>> Brisbane too. Gold Coast also has a casino if you're using that as the excuse for picking Brisbane. Being in Australia without direct access to ocean and beaches seems like not the best use of resources.

wikitravel said something like 70km to Gold Coast city, but if it's further, then I'll pass on visiting Gold Coast city. It does appear that the Stradbroke islands are closer, both of them are beaches within an hour and this resort town Redcliffe.

Round 2 Lisbon, Portugal

Quote:
Magnificently sited on a series of hills running down to the grand Tagus River, Lisbon is one of the world's most scenic cities. Beautiful unexpected views are found at every turn down its colorful, picturesque streets, and especially from strategically-placed viewpoints or terraces at the top of each hill. The city has an unpolished, seductive appearance; an effortless beauty with captivating details such as cobbled designs, tiled façades, and pastel-colored buildings blending together to give it a singular atmosphere now lost in so many other cities. In such a stunning place, it's no wonder that many of the world's great explorers questioned what other beauties lied beyond the horizon when they departed from here in the 15th century.
Quote:
Lisbon is recognized as an alpha city because of its importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts, international trade, education, and tourism
The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is a seaside city with near 2.5 million people in its metropolitan area. Being the capital, and being one of the oldest cities in the world, there is a lot going on in Lisbon. Whether its going to the 12th century cathedral, the modern bridges, the many distinct neighborhoods, a top level soccer game, or going to the beach, there is a lot of interesting and exciting things to do in Lisbon.

Quote:
The city is the seventh-most-visited city in Southern Europe, after Istanbul, Rome, Barcelona, Madrid, Athens, and Milan, with 1,740,000 tourists in 2009.[11] The Lisbon region is the wealthiest region in Portugal, GDP PPP per capita is 26,100 euros (it is higher results of 4.7% from the average European Union's GDP PPP per capita). It is the tenth richest metropolitan area by GDP on the continent amounting to 98 billion euros and thus €34,850 per capita.[12] This is 40% higher than the average European Union's GDP per capita. The city occupies 32nd place of highest gross earnings in the world.[13] Most of the headquarters of multinationals in the country are located in the Lisbon area and it is the ninth city in the world in terms of quantity of international conferences

Quote:
Lisbon can be summed up in one word: variety. From the 12th-century Se cathedral to the modern bridges spanning the Tagus River, from the 18th-century Aguas Livres aqueduct to the futuristic Oriental Station, Lisbon traverses the ages. The city's many neighborhoods include Moorish Alfama, home of the city's tallest hill, and 17th-century Bairro Alto, with its hopping nightlife. Museums, castles, open-air markets, funiculars, Fado music - Lisbon's pleasures include these and much more.

Quote:
Lisbon is blessed as the only European capital located so close to sandy beaches. Although the waters are not as warm as in the south of the country, the Lisbon coast offers beautiful beaches that range from sheltered little coves to miles of dune-backed sands. Most of them are clean and fly the European Union Blue Flag for excellence and are ideal for a refreshing day in the sun.

Brisbane was on our radar, but maybe it should have been higher. Dyenimator painted a nice picture of it.

Lisbon is a very good pick imo. I had a great time when I visited and it feels like a fun place to live. You also get Cascais, a nice old coastal city where you can spend a couple of weekends at the beach.
