"I'm very proud of the record, there's no question," Donovan told Goal. "But when you put it in context, I don't know the numbers but I know Clint has fewer penalty goals than I had. I know he's done it in less caps than I have. I know he's probably done it in less years than I have.
"And you have to remember that he was overseas for a lot of years, so he didn't get to come in all the time and play friendlies in January against the Norwegian B team or Barbados," Donovan added. "So in my opinion he's done it in more difficult circumstances and that makes it that much more impressive."
Dempsey has 133 caps compared to Donovan's 157, so he's right.

Hey clint, you are still the #1 striker on USMNT. Get over it. You had a day where you didn't find the net.

Did ya score? no you didn't, so get off the field and put on your big boy pants and get it next time.

Just think it's a real bad look to come off the field like he did. show some respect for the coach. Don't be a Diego Costa.
You would think they discussed this before the game, if not they should have. But I always thought Dempsey was a prime candidate to go off at 45-60 (ideally with a comfortable lead by then) so he could be fully fit for the much bigger game in Mexico where I absolutely want Dempsey starting

Late so maybe this was discussed. But with the injuries Wood has had this year, I am fine with resting him for Mexico.

I never understand the **** given to Altidore. He may not be a world class striker, but he is a pretty damn good striker with under rate passing. I can't find the chart with Goals and Assists. But by that metric he is projected to be better then Dempsey.

Player (age/status) Goals Apps. Scoring rate
Landon Donovan (retired) 57 157 .363
Clint Dempsey (34) 56 133 .421
Jozy Altidore (27) 37 102 .363
Christian Pulisic (18) 5 14 .357

Read more at https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/featu...2Eibfeky7tg.99

Updated #s would be 0.466 for Pulisic. So obviously greatest of all time.

Think it's largely because of the perceived incongruity of a guy with a striker's body who's secretly wanted to be a deep-lying playmaker all his life.

Agreed and would love to see CJ Sapong in his body.

But people love Bobby Wood and he scored 8 goals in 31 games vs 37 in 103.

Everyone but Jerome Defoe dies a little in Sunderland. The other part may have been the expectation he would surpass Dempsey in England. And make the US not just a great place for keeper.s.

Mexico going to be without 5 would-be starters for tomorrow's match:
1. Rafita Marquez
2. Guardado
3. Layun
4. Tecatito Corona
5. Nestor Araujo

and i'm not even worried. this team is so ****ing stacked that our next best available players are just as good. no tecatito? no problem. in goes CHUCKY. no rafita? La Liga starter Diego Reyes it is. i can go on and on but i'm sure you get it.

Not really any getting away from the fact that we are playing a road game at Azteca after just playing on Thursday. Mexico played on Thursday as well, but at home, and their squad is much deeper than ours.

IMO, Arena needs to change the lineup pretty dramatically for us to even have a chance at getting a result. 0-0 is pretty much the goal tonight, but we have the guys to be pretty devastating on counters as well.

Given the loldefense of both teams 1-1 is a more realistic hope

3-1 Mexico, 2-0 at the half. I think our tendency to start slow (since at least mid Bradley days and continuing for a ****ing decade) is going to bury us in this one. Let's get out of here without a Pulisic injury and hope HON/PAN play to a draw.

Or a Honduras win. (theyve lost their two road game 0-3 and 0-6 though so probably not likely)

our lineup is gonna be something crazy, basically confirmed at this point

i agree with the call, most players simply can't make an impact on this kind of turnaround

hopefully zusi doesn't get in tho
