I've been pretty disappointed with this tournament tbqh. I've been happy with the improvement in the USA side from last summer, but overall the tournament has seemed like a corporate cash grab instead of what I was foolishly hoping it would be. Maybe I have my expectations too high, but the emotion I see from the fans and the players in the euros are far beyond anything I've seen in the copa 2015, and I was expecting them to be in the same realm.

Maybe that's just me being dumb, but I didn't expect to see half full stadiums and a general apathy towards the tournament.

As much as I hate USA soccer, I hate Argentina more. Rockin the red white and blue Clippers hat and my red white and blue 4th of July Air Jordan 5 retro's in solidarity today... LFG USA!

Going to place a bet at south point shortly, they seem to have best price to advance atm

You realize the Euros are being played in a tiny country, where you're a train ride away from every city, and in stadiums that are half the size right?

Completely disagree with almost all of this. It's been ****ing great. Players have been in tears on the field and the passion has been clear. High ticket prices have sucked, sure. The only real issue for me has been that some of the games should have been played in smaller stadiums. It's kind of obvious that Panama vs Bolivia in Florida won't fill a 60,000 seat stadium.

Other than Bolivia, Jamaica and Haiti, every team showed up in their own right. Even Brazil, who should still be embarrassed, but weren't as bad as the result indicates.

Didn't think so. If you had any idea most of that last post would make no sense. There's also a Copa America thread...

Just put $5 on John Brooks first goal scorer...at 500:1. Let's do this!!!

yea it's been pretty awesome. Went to two games, one of the ****tiest football match possible, but the atmosphere and general passion on display both on the field and in the stands was awesome. The ticket prices are an issue but we're also playing in gigantic ****ing NFL stadiums that no other country or tournament can compare to.

In a perfect world they would be in smaller stadiums but I'm not sure they can switch a venue that is predetermined before they draw after the draw is made, but they obviously should.

And the USA is in a ****ing semifinal against Lionel Messi, the world's best player, and Argentina, the world's best team, we've had an XI that has looked competent, we've beaten 2 teams from CONMEBOL, and it's been ****ing awesome to watch.

Uruguay didn't show up either.... and that's 25% of the teams man. USA games are not even attempting to fill stadiums in places with great soccer support. It just didn't hit my expectations, which were admittedly quite high. We filled those stadiums in 94, and those are my earliest and some of my best soccer memories. We just aren't even close to that. The Euros are.

Combine that with the apparently crazy ticket prices and it's hard for me to see this without suspecting it's a simple cash grab.

It is worth remembering that this tournament's planning, marketing and any decisions revolving around it were heavily delayed by the FIFA madness. We weren't even sure it would happen a year ago and this is the first non Gold Cup tournament here since 1994. More casual fans have taken time to buy in and understand what's happening. If CONCACAF and CONMEBOL decide to do this again in the future, it'll be even better.

Was it? I didn't know anything about that. I haven't had much casualfan interest in this, but admittedly the media cycle has been NBANBANBA and this has been on FoxSports. That's just myfeelingsman stuff.

I think you misunderstood me some; I don't mean to knock the whole tournament. I've greatly enjoyed watching the games. It just hasn't lived up to my expectations. I'm still ornery about the attendance in Seattle specifically.

anyone who's seen enough football has seen that before. so looks like you don't follow this sport much either.

The empty seats tilt me. The casual fan who turns this on is going to see the empty seats (even for a USA game) and could think this tournament isn't a big deal. They aren't going to know about the ticket prices. And the fact that it's on Fox instead of ESPN, and still isn't getting that much coverage in the newspaper is going to increase the chances people either don't notice the tournament is going on or they notice but think it isn't a big deal.

There are things about the tournament that I really like though. But the ticket prices thing especially tilts me because the stadiums could easily be more filled up than they are.

I'm sure you'll find it easy to support the assertion that the tournament was almost canceled. (You won't) Because I sure as hell don't remember that, nor did wazzu say that. How bout you drink some calm down juice instead of trying to one up me every god damn post?

Besides, some question about the tournament going well before kickoff is a bull**** excuse for the planning not being done properly.
