Diving may or may not be part of the game, but I think we can all agree that being a ****ty diver is lame as ****.

Diving is whatever. Jozy's dives are the nut low. I think that about sums it up.

Mr. Agudelo has become an excellent diver though. I think Jozy gets away with less because he's so strong.

The other results have actually cooperated pretty well with us. Provided we win against Guadeloupe tonight, we'll have avoided Mexico, Costa Rica, and Honduras, all of which will be on the other side of the bracket.

The toughest of our two knockout round games will be Jamaica (and/or Panama again) most likely, which really isn't so bad considering.

It shouldn't really matter, as we should always be able to negotiate a half of the bracket containing Jamaica and Panama, but ideally our friendly neighbors to the north knock off the Panamanians, and give us the group win and either Guatemala or El Salvador in the quarters.

Another interesting note, is that we'll know precisely what we have to do when our game is kicking off, as the Gold Cup doesn't do final match day concurrent games (though it probably should).

As for the game itself, anything other than a 3 or 4 goal victory would be extremely disconcerting. I wouldn't mind Bradley shaking things up a little bit either.

We should not concede versus Guadeloupe and should score 3 goals. I really hate our chances against Mexico if we get to the Finals regardless.

Nobody here is expecting us to beat Mexico. Field a competitive team that doesn't give up 75% of the possession is what I think most rational MNT fans would hope for at this point. Grinding out a 1-1 draw into extra time would be a great result. As long as we don't look completely overmatched I think we're fine.

And there's no way we fire Bradley anytime soon. Dude is too cost effective for USSF.

I'm wondering if Dempsey/Donovan are going to be especially relevant in 2014 or if Holden and Bradley will be taking over.

Really hope we can get up early so we can get D/D off the field or at least taking it easy.

deuce will certainly still be relevant unless someone really comes on in the next two years or so on the wing. landy could still be relevant as a second striker

I do feel though if we are to really get the most out of holden, we need to play him in a more advanced role as opposed to having him be box to box. A 3man CM of jones, bradley, and holden could be very good for us I feel

I like that lineup. There will probably be lots of chances and Wondolowski is a better finisher than Agudelo right now.

Rather have Aguedelo and Ream for Goodson and Jozy.

Edit: Unless Ream is hurt?

I think Ream lost his place after the panama disaster.

I get that, I just think we need someone with some ball skills at CB, so we need to let him take some lumps.

Yeah I wouldn't mind if he started, just saying I haven't heard anything about an injury. Guadeloupe is definitely the best 4th place team in the tournament so if this Canada result holds there is actually a small chance of the unthinkable disaster of the US not getting into the quarter finals which is pretty wild. I mean Guadeloupe probably gets a draw 1 out 5 or 6 times.

lol canada

i think the team will be greatly improved when holden gets back and gets a good string of games. he is the kind of quality we need at a minimum in the central areas if we are going to have any chance of competing at a reasonably high level. the monchengladbach types don't cut it.

is my main beef with the lineup. Mostly I just don't want to see jozy play anytime soon tbh

jozy is just awful. i wish i could never see him play again. ****ing massive guy and he has never even learned the term "hold up play" much less learned how to do it. watching him take on, and lose to, his man over and over again is so painful.

I am probably late to say this, but the worst part about the game v Panama for me was how we got diced up through the middle. The pressure was terrible and there was gaps and movement from Panama that we just didn't deal with. If Ream lost his place over that game that is a shame imo. He was put in too many tough spots.

I'll say it again, the American commentators on the online feed are good. I wish I knew who they were.

They made the point that the Guadeloupe team has a lot of French citizens who couldn't hack it with their national team but still play in places like the French 2nd division.
