Of all the players I think Yedlin would have the most to gain by going to Europe. Hard to imagine a decent enough team wouldn't be interested.

MLS could hurt his development.

In fairness, when Europeans say we're a terrible squad, this is how they do it.

Most importantly though is the men in blazers podcast. It's a great podcast even if you're only mildly interested in soccer.
Thanks for that. I'm in the same boat as the other person. Was a casual fan but this run got me super excited.

DMB was the ****ing man for us all tournament.

What a gutsy performance by the aging vet. God he has been a part of USMNT for so long. Great seeing him play this well in his final WC.

Heh, so true. That said, as proud as I am of how the team did, it still rustles me somewhat to think about what could've been had Subotic and/or Rossi chosen to represent the U.S. instead.

They play two completely different positions, what are you talking about? Johnson is a winger on the national team who can play striker when he needs to.

Boyd is a striker whose biggest career accomplishment is a move to 2. Bundesliga. Aron scored goals in a lower leagues too, and was completely out of his depth in his time in the field. Similarly, Mix and Chandler couldn't even crack the lineup so the blanket Euro > MLS statements are ridiculous.

With that criteria, I'm surprised you're not begging for Danny Williams, Tim Ream, and Sacha Kljestan on this team.

yep.

I was talking him up in the 2nd half. he just seems like one of those guys that would rather die than stop running, and when he screws up a touch or misses a tackle it really, really makes him feel bad and he'll run 3x as hard for the next 10 mins because of it.

always smiling. old man beas is awesome, I'd buy him a drink any time.

I admit I was pretty concerned about him but he was fantastic.

Yedlin/Fab as our fullbacks going into next cycle?

I look forward to watching DMB defend crosses by whacking his cane into the heads of opposing forwards with my kids in 28 years.

Andrew Farrell in the USMNT would be unbelievable.

He and Yedlin in defense together for WC 2018.

this is a great way of looking at it. even extending that to 410 minutes of 5-6 seems pretty good to me, too.

we aren't locked into being at the confeds cup, but we won the previous gold cup so we have at least 50% chance of going

Nice thing about the CONCACAF gold cup is we get to play the role of Brazil and be heavily favorited vs everyone.

Yeah, pretty much this. I don't get why people who don't watch MLS trash it.

The MLS thread has like 10 posters in it. Maybe I'm underrating the #, but yeah. I trust those guys to weigh in about different MLSers. The rest who weigh in on MLS... lol

literally no one thought those were good selections. if you read this thread more than the past 12 hours, you'd know that. everyone hated their inclusion.

that's not what we're arguing. you're including Matt Besler, Grahm Zusi, (apparently not Kyle Beckerman), and maybe MB90??? as "guys who let us down and are MLS lifers". This is ridiculous, as Bradley is our best player, Besler is our best defender, and Zusi is our best wing.

There you go.

What this team needed was Lee Nguyen.

NBC's coverage has been so much better than FOX's.. i get sad every time i have to watch the CL or FA Cup on Fox Sports

i will add that ESPN has a daily show called ESPNFC that is mostly highlights/talk that is pretty damn good. it is a good way to keep up on other leagues as well.

This was the most odd part of WC posting I noticed over all of the threads. It didn't seem to matter what happened in any of the WC games, qualifiers, head to heads, or friendlies. All that mattered was the preconceived notions people had on players and teams and anything that happened against that was variance. Couldn't quite tell if there was just something huge I was missing about the effect the format of a national team that brings in people that aren't used to playing with each other, or if it was just lolwutposting. It was everywhere.

been watching this every night during wc, but its mostly alexi, tirico, julie foudy or w/e (oh shes so terrible) and a former player like michael ballack, ruud van something roy.

earlier in the tourney they had nate silver on, and on sunday that taylor twellman guy was on. hes so douchey and arrogant. (hes the reggie miller of futbol: "they're back in the game, ian. THEY'RE BACK IN THE GAME." loves to repeat himself)
