I'm working on an algorithm that calculates expected possession

xP is gonna revolutionize the game

I don't think that's fair. I simply reject the fact that possession is necessarily tied to decreased variance, especially in scenarios when your opponent is equal to or better than you are. And this is especially the case when you don't have the attacking oeuvre to convert chances in a final third with extremely limited space. The idea of FB support to a possession attack is good in theory. But when that back is Antonee Robinson, where possession goes to die, it seems like better ideas could be had. There has to be a way to create space in the attack without trying to play like 2010 Barcelona with 2010 Colorado Rapids players.

edit: my presumption here is that what I'm rejecting is what Gregg believes in 100%.

You guys can rest easy. Just heard a Gregggg clip prepping excuses telling us how good Honduras actually is, citing xG, despite being the worst team in qualifying

I know even less about hockey than I do about soccer, but I wonder if there’s some kind of analog to the 90s neutral zone trap in hockey. Don’t press high so much, let them gain possession and momentum out the back, then funnel them into some constricted area of of the midfield, win the ball back and then counterattack at pace over half the field.

90s NZ trap is dead because of rule changes

the actual similarities between soccer and hockey are both are really all about possession and shot attempts. you don't score without the ball. random counterattack goals are not a legitimate long term strategy.

Agree with this. Hope they get an easy win today. A tie or loss today would
Be very bad. I expect the US to win but as always- you never know what will happen. I don’t want this team going into the last game or 2 need a result per se. Think it’s a little worrisome they play 2 away games and at Mexico in last 3 game cycle. Leaving it to needing a result in the last game is very scary for a team that can underperform lately (especially with goof berhalter at the helm).

Missing out on a World Cup again would be so depressing if you ask me. I don’t feel confident about the US team in the World Cup unless they get a super soft group draw.

most likely scenario is we win both our home games (24 points), which includes beating Panama. Panama is highly likely to be mathematically eliminated from getting to 24 after that, and our game @CRC won't matter. btw, I don't get why people are afraid of Mexico, who is actually ****ing bad and seems more likely to fall to 4th imo.

Should be plenty for a crappy Honduras squad at home. But the team seems to underperform every match so who knows.

Morris shouldn't play a minute. Acosta we expected since Adams is out and Musah wasn't playing all 3.

Hilarious.

It's apparent Gregg has no idea what his best XI is and just clicks buttons every game. I get guys can't play 3 games in 9 days or whatever, but Gregg loves throwing random **** at the wall. This team has zero continuity. Gregg ****ing stinks. LOL Jordan Morris and Kellyn Acosta

it's on himself for not calling in the full allowed number of players too

one LB called in, let's make Jedi play 270 minutes and leave Scally in Germany

El Salvador players have released a statement saying they are not playing tonight vs. Canada. A dispute with the federation over agreed bonuses and treatment, it appears.

I dont think even Gregg believes this. It's just the alternative is "my tactics sucked" which means he's doing a bad job.
