I was under the impression every single athlete only class that about every single school has was something like this (obv not quite to that extent but still). What was the difference they actually didn't go into a classroom?

Should they even be punished? For what doing it better than everyone else?

I mean UNC basically paid the kids diplomas* for playing football or sports and nothing else; isn't this the entirety of the pay them argument? That it's unfair? Instead of a textbook they only had to study a playbook.

*well jeez if you still flunked out of UNC...

I've tutored a few of the star high school football players in my town over the last few years - some of them are pretty ******ed.

E.g. the starting RB for the team (the team won state that year btw) had about a 6th grade math/english level. Was also monumentally lazy and seemed constantly distracted

How does a major university lose it's accreditation anyway? or have it suspended? You would think something like academic fraud would do it, no?

There's absolutely zero chance this or even more scandals like this would ever threaten the accreditation of the school. Anyone thinking or saying it will is bad and should feel bad.

This is so much worse than some of the other scandals of recent memory (ohio state tattoo deal, Miami booster etc) as it really is institutionalized fraud. Let the wrist slapping commence!

and my favorite part of the scandal, a sample of an A- paper lol:

That essay is actually what appears on the first page of the book Rosa Parks: My Story, except subtly reworded. So not only is it garbage, it's plagiarized, and obviously so.

This would be an obvious "loss of institutional control" situation that would warrant the Death Penalty, but if systematically covering up child rape for years doesn't qualify....

While clearly not worse than child rape this is still far more likely to get a death penalty punishment if the idea of 'student athletes' means anything at all to the NCAA

Looks like the frat boys found out about it:

Other evidence indicates Crowder wasn’t willing to help everyone get into the classes. One email suggested Crowder was struggling to manage all the students enrolling in independent studies classes and sought to ramp them down. An academic adviser said in the email that Crowder was concerned knowledge of the independent studies had “sort of gotten into the frat circuit.”

if the NCAA doesn't drop the hammer then we know they are total frauds

Spoiler:
ok, we already know they are total frauds but this might be the thing that formally gets them fully discredited by the really stupid people

the 'IT HAPPENS EVERYWHERE' people are kinda silly. It obviously doesn't happen everywhere. And in the places it does happen, it doesn't always happen to this degree.

This. Nothing to see here; money talks, etc.

I mean decades of rampant child rape coverup wasn't enough for this so-called death penalty then literally nothing at all is. There is nothing a university can do to lose its accreditation.

SPORTS!

@dannyocean i don't agree*. that said all athletic teams involved should face lengthy bans, people should be fired, vilified, etc.
