Mm, I don't know what to tell you. I thought a few episodes were A+ and better than the pilot, but the pilot got me hooked.

Modern Family is a typical family sitcom disguised as a mockumentary. Since it is a mockumetary you would think that they would attempt to capture reality, but the reality they capture are formulaic cliches. They aren't trying to be ironic by doing this they are just combining an amalgam of ideas that have been succesful in sitcoms in the past and hoping they will work together, which leads to a middlebrow sitcom without anything original, outside of a couple zingers per episode.
I think you're too concerned with projecting "what a mockumentary should be" onto the show. I just see the show as a show-- it's got some mockumentary elements because they work within the show, but that doesn't mean it has to be cast in a particular light. I think if your biggest concern about the show is about the limits its format "should" impose on what it can do, then you need to open your mind about what those limits should be and why they are there. In other words, who gives a **** if it uses some elements of sitcom, some breaking the fourth wall, or whatever else, if it works? Now, your opinion of whether or not it works is another matter entirely.

As far as the quality of the show itself, I felt like it had a few brilliant episodes and is almost all good to very good ones, with some hilarious moments thrown in, but I have concerns about its longevity because it feels shakily held together. I'm alarmed at the amount of new stuff that seems to be invented about the characters weekly, especially considering that they seemed to start in such fertile comic ground.

Stuff like the kids growing up can often be a detriment as it changes the dynamic in a way that the writers don't know how to account for. Put another way, in any show with depth the characters change over time, and occasionally they change in ways that don't work together anymore (which happens in real life as well).

I'm curious myself.

Third Rock is a really good pick. There is still a better sketch show than MadTV, which managed to be on the air for what seemed like forever without creating a single memorable sketch.

We considered 3rd Rock with our last pick.

Pudge,

It kinda spoils things when the URL to the theme song contains the title to the show.

Wait, MADtv's OK but not SNL? Seems pretty hmmm considering they're the same show, with MADtv being the poor man's version of SNL.

SNL is not allowed because it has been on TV forever and has had such a large cast and the cast is imperative to it's success. Do you get Chevy Chase, Bill Murray SNL or Seth Meyers Andy Samberg SNL? MadTV doesn't have this problem.

My problem with Colbert Report is that in this TV world the shows he's satirizing likely won't exist, but I might just be thinking too much. I'd just use him as a host for a random late night show.

Hm. I guess so, but MADtv had the same thing, just with lesser-knowns. And not as long.

I'm hoping Chilltown is here to do some more epic writeups but I can pick. Gimme a few mins.

A large chunk of the cast is consistent throughout the shows run.

Here's one of our picks

Spoiler:

Glee

Glee is the best new show on TV ainec. Comedy/musical with razor sharp wit.

I would do a better writeup by I don't want to

I asked a friend what he thought of Glee he said in a non-pregorataive way "It is the gayest show I have ever seen". Later that day I had a meeting with an advisor who is gay and he had glee videos up on his cpu.

Posts like this keep getting made. Nowhere in the rules did it imply that these 18 stations make up the universe of TV.

Right, because there is no good version of MadTV.

Ahah. It could be. I love it. Maybe I have the gay. Hmm.

Should fit well with Gilmore Girls.

edit Presumably Chilltown is working on the other writeup. He said he was anyways.

This is some good ass cheese.

Considered taking 3rd Rock this round but didn't wanna take 2 sitcoms. Glee is a show I was considering next round because it has potential to develop into a very popular franchise, plus it's an hour long.

Spoiler:

So dreamy. Paired with Buffy on a certain night, how could we go wrong? We're gonna shock the world with our edgy and dark shows. People will watch them because it's on TV and it will probably become a huge trend to watch good shows. This show is kind of weird in the sense that it gets better as it goes along. S4 stands tall as the best of the series, odd. I enjoy ambitious shows too. For 3 seasons, you could argue that it was a good show but it suddenly became great. Almost like another horror procedural, so we could pair it up with The Twilight Zone. We're probably going to sink the sci fi channel too cause we appear to be hogging most of the good ones. And Assani's channel because it frankly looks terrible.

Yeah, we're cool dudes and other cool dudes will watch us. Haters to the left.

With our first pick of the 9th round, ZTV selects: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaLPpKCC9pg

Spoiler:

Firefly is a space western with a short run, that was absolutely destroyed by its network. Inconsistent schedule, and episodes shown out of order, this show was given no chance to succeed. I have no doubt that it would have been a huge hit had Fox given it an opportunity, just like I have no doubt that it will be a huge hit on a network dedicated to science fiction programming.

It brings the flavour of westerns - bandits, the self reliant maverick on the run from the law - and combines it with the old standby of space operas, a big evil government with shadowy conspiracies. Add in excellent writing and eminently lovable characters, and you get a show that is almost guaranteed to be a hit, with science-fiction fans and non-fans alike.

I wanted to like Glee but it makes me cringe so hard. I had to stop watching when the guy was singing Gold Digger (2nd or 3rd ep?).

There needs to be a Jane Lynch cheerleader spin-off.
