Chilltown wanted to take The Mentalist with one of the doublepcks I thinnk. Looks like it comes on in 30 mins, I'll see what it's all about.

Some of you seem to have seen almost every show. I feel like I've seen the least # of shows out of the active people itt!

I'll never watch it but looks like it'll be on the air for another 3 years at least, more likely in the 5+ range.

I was turned on to Mentalist because it gets huge ****ing ratings and is proven to work in the present.

I thought it was horrendous, but my sister in law loves it and she has generally good taste in shows. I mean, it's basically law and order with a more charismatic lead and better one-liners.

The reason I think MF has longevity is because of its format. A family sitcom opens up a ton of doors and can run for many seasons. In addition, the changing of certain situations (namely the kids growing up) can keep the show fresh in future seasons.

Community has a very dated timeline. The protagonist returned to community college only needing to take a few classes. Even the other characters will get to graduate after 2 years presumably. Then what happens with the show?

This was a big reason I had MF way ahead of Community.

Modern Family is terrible here is the post I made about it in the OOTV thread about it after I gave up 4/5 episodes in.

Modern Family is a typical family sitcom disguised as a mockumentary. Since it is a mockumetary you would think that they would attempt to capture reality, but the reality they capture are formulaic cliches. They aren't trying to be ironic by doing this they are just combining an amalgam of ideas that have been succesful in sitcoms in the past and hoping they will work together, which leads to a middlebrow sitcom without anything original, outside of a couple zingers per episode.

Baywatch is an example of a show that was a cultural phenomenon because of right place right time and it no longer will be in this era. That being said it is okay value as a brainless procedural for the 10th round or w/e.

Spoiler:

Columbo is one of the most iconic procedurals of all time and one of the most iconic tv characters of all time. It could easily have L&O type success in this iteration, but I am getting it like 6 rounds later. Yes it only had 60 episodes but those were 90 minute - 2 hour episodes, I may decide to turn it into a one hour procedural I am not sure yet and it depends on how the rest of my lineup shakes up. The NBC Mystery Movie was frequently rated in the top 10, while Columbo was on the air.

Yeaaaaaabut Columbo doesn't have the L&O trademark sound. Was def. worth six rounds.

Spoiler:

I am taking Steven Colbert as a late night host. I am not sure if I going to use the Colbert Report as a show or him as a late night host, but he is the best available late night host with proven success and an incredible comedic talent who could easily transition to being a regular late night host

Spoiler:

For my first pick in the 9th round I'm taking 3rd Rock from the Sun. A great premise for a tv show. Features John Lithgow who is quite simply awesome, and helped launch Joseph Gordon-Levitt's career. Lasted 6 seasons, all of which did decently in the ratings. Should fit well on Thursday nights after The Office.

In a world with no Saturday Night Live, MADtv is one of if not the premiere late night sketch comedy show. Not sure where I'm placing this in my lineup yet, but figured it was pretty good value at this point and would be a good fit for my station.
