If a 60 year old can nearly win a major in 2009, Tiger can definitely win a major in 2029.
Watson was 59 and it was not a 4-way playoff, only him and Cink.
However Turnberry was perhaps the only course on the planet that Watson could compete for a major on. Many things were working in his favor, very few golfers had ever played the course while he knew it like the back of his hand. It was not long, he didn't have the length to compete on a course of any length. It was firm and fast, you had to hit links shots, not many nowadays know how.
Plus Watson's swing and body are freakish, he is able to take it back as far today as he did in his heyday which is almost unheard of. An incredible combination of events had to occur for Watson to be in that position. And yes, it would have been the greatest sports happening ever had he won.
As far as Tiger goes, his body isn't going to hold up at that age. And his swing isn't built to function at that age. The older guys that can still compete have long, languid motions with little to no snapping. But perhaps most important, if he doesn't feel like he can be the best, he won't play. He'll just ride off into the sunset as one of the greatest ever.
