i like jalen, and think he's only going to get better. id be okay with keeping simmons because him and jalen work well together. maybe simmons/jalen/SVG/grant hill or something.

SVG and simmons combo could be good as well because they both have no filter.

quit with the star power BS, the TNT thing doesn't work because Chuck was a star, it works because he's great on TV. Kenny wasn't a star, Ernie wasn't anything really. the "you have to have a legend on the panel" deal is like the dumbest thing ever. if you care about that, then you're an idiot too.

it's the same dumb **** that says "welp, great player must = great coach/GM". guess what? butnahhhhhhhhhhh

Good lord. Just listened to the BS report with Andy Greenwald, BS needs to stick to sports, he's just awful talking about anything else. My kids have more interesting comments on TV than he does. The hollywood prospectus episode with Andy Greenwald and Chuck Klosterman where they covered basically the same topic (Mad Men, Game of Thrones, and Gandolfini) was approximately 4000x better.

oops

"former star player cred" is a super idiotic concept too

not many actually make good analysts, and Magic certainly never has in his years of broadcasting

I think Jalen would be better without Magic/Wilbon, who add absolutely nothing except Lakers homer and casualfan analysis. The one thing Jalen has going for him is that he knows how to needle Bill, which helps overall. "I bet you can't wait to get a Gerald Wallace jersey" was awesome, and he shares more info about what it's like being a player than anyone else I can think of on TV.

Something like Jalen/Bill/SVG would be pretty elite I think.

you all forget the average nba fan's iq. lol at haralabob being on tv. I've seen him do interviews on poker shows and while i enjoy what he has to say, he'd be terrible for network television. Hes a nerd, simmons is a nerd and is probably disliked by your average fan. The casual fan wants to see what the super mogul earvin magic johnson has to say. Jalen, you're a dick.

Yes because when the average nba fan looks at Michael Wilbon the first thought that comes to their mind must be "Damn, what a boss, I bet that guy gets all the bitches"

Gonna have to call shenanigans on Simmons being hated by "average fans." That's his bread and butter.

+1 on LeBatard. I'd do a quick like-for-like swap between him and Wilbon if they insist on keeping their player-to-dweeb ratio in-tact.

Jalen taking on hosting responsibilities is just insane. He's just not that sharp. Needs to be restricted to planned anecdotes regardless of the format.

Simmons is hated by average fans.

By "average" I'm referring to fans who post their thoughts on ESPNcomments.

Comments sections exist just so people can post boder line libelous thoughts, of course the most popular writer at ESPN will catch the most flack

I think the sites that make you log into facebook to post comments are a lot better for obvious anonymity reasons (even though it kind of sucks). Grantland's comments are sometimes decent

of course deadspin has anonymous comments and they are usually hilarious so meh

If "likability" is judged by espn comments, no one in the world is liked.

how does someone with 14k posts on a message board not know this, they're not reflective of the general population at all

The most popular writer at ESPN...narrowly edging out Rick Reilly.

In the latest podcast, I think Simmons was way too hard on this Mad Men season and Sepinwall put him in his place a little.

Also House is just terrible and worthless. BobO can be ok.

Was House good at one point, or did it just fall off in recent seasons? I used to love it back when I was a kid.

I never followed Rick Reilly before he became awful, but I could see BS's career taking the same trajectory. I envision a scenario in the future where he's on tv at some random sporting event and I'm interested in what he has to say, meanwhile everyone younger than me groans at the very sight of him.
