Oh, I did go fix that. I was in school all of 2013, got a 4.0 in the last 20 hours I needed, walked across the stage in May 2014 with a B.A. in English.

i have taken one for about 9 months with no problems at all. i don't ever notice if i forget to take it either for a few days when i run out and don't have time to go to the doctor. took one for about a year in high school and the brain zaps when i came off it were horrendous though

I've taken an SSRI (escitalopram) for a period of months on a couple of occasions. I found that if anything it increased my alcohol tolerance, and I drank heavily while on it a number of times.

Doctors always advise that you shouldn't take alcohol while on drugs, which is well intentioned but usually bull****.

And on the rare occasions I forgot to take it, it was like my head was in a bug zapper, just shocks and totally weird disruptions to my perception. I basically couldn't think straight for like 5 or 6 months and finally got fed up.

The withdrawal sucked ass too. Basically I was jittery constantly and got the head zingers all the time for a few days. And the dreams during that time were completely out of control. For example one that stuck with me was that I killed George W Bush, on the road outside of my mom's rural church building, by shooting him with a gun that fired severed human arms. You'd probably remember that too.
Which SSRI was it? People react differently to different ones and there are some that are notorious for side effects.

I always had a negative view of SSRIs prior to taking escitalopram but it's been a godsend for me on a couple occasions now. The only really sucky side effect that I get is that it takes an axe to my sex drive, which is something I can deal with when I need to get my head together. It rebounds pretty quick when I stop taking it.

Rebound can suck. Some doctors are super blase about it but I would strongly recommend tapering as gently as you can. When I have come off them I've gone 1 tablet -> 3/4 -> 1/2 -> 1/4 over a period of a few weeks before stopping. Frankly the biggest shock to the system was still the 1/4 -> none and I don't even think taking 1/8 for a few days would be crazy if you have the patience.

Yeah I'm taking the citolapram. Only side effects was the first 3 days when Id wake up crying thinking my skin was falling off. Had an issue finishing in the sex department for a few weeks, now all I have is waking up every 2 hours to pee. Still hasn't solved the problem why I started taking it in the first place but it's made about a 15% difference so far. Thought about just stopping cold turkey but heard that's not a good idea.

I have a degree in organic chemistry, basically citalopram contains both left and right handed forms of the molecule, while escitalopram (which is a stylised 'S-citalopram', referring to the left-handed form) only has one of them. In some cases biologically that can make a big difference, but in this case not really, it's more a way of the manufacturer "evergreening" the drug to preserve their patent.

I've taken escitalopram for depression/anxiety and it always makes a large and near immediate (1-2 hours) difference, but if you're taking it for other reasons (OCD?) I can't speak to that. The immediate effect it has on serotonin levels isn't actually the point, over time it modifies gene expression and leads to a longer term change in the way the brain works. So you should persist in taking it for 6 weeks, bare minimum, and definitely do not cold turkey. If you want to come off it, taper the dose down.

This was pretty much my experience with both Prozac (SSRI) and Wellbutrin (non-SSRI). I was looking to have fewer days where I didn't get out of bed or leave the house, but they just made me more OK with not doing ****.

Never noticed any alcohol-related ill effects FWIW.

Blaming that stuff on your SSRI prescription seems like a poor decision.

SSRIs are the absolute WOAT, and they often keep your peen from working properly. No thanks.

Ayahuasca on the other hand. Now that's something. Takes you on a journey while you work out all your issues in life. If anyone has a chance to attend an ayahuasca ceremony, I highly recommend doing so, though the recommended pre-ceremony diet is a bitch (no red meat or pork, no booze, minimal salt and sugar, no cheese, no oil, no anything good). Still, worth it.

Edit: would not recommend this if you're just looking to get ****ed up and trip balls brah

i'm jealous

the pre diet - that's due to the purge (puking) that's commonly associated, right?
