How good/****/decent is Brad Jones for a ~ midtable Eredivisie side with a goaly crisis? My beloved NEC's first and second gk's are out injured for months, third goaly got sent on his way over a contract/labor dispute. Now down to our 4th gk who seems fairly dodgy to say the least. So we just got Jones on a short deal til summer to hold us over. Anyone (Liverpool or Boro fans?) got any insights?

in for the January lols. Looking through this thread it seems that most United were laughing/saying 'oh dear god no' over the prospect of signing Mane in the summer. Five months later and you all seem to be accepting him (after a pretty poor few months from him in all honesty). Have things really got that bad in Manchester?!

I already know the answer btw.

Not too keen on Mané, but I was under the impression he's had a good season so far?

Mane is very inconsistent.

He's not been awful or anything, but this has certainly been his worst period since he joined the club. Unsurprisingly it coincides with our worst spell since he joined the club.

I get the impression Soton are quite happy to court a mega bid from Manure.

Think we should probably just stand pat this window rather than let a dead manager walking splurge massive amounts on 2nd or 3rd tier talents like Mané/Anderson.

I think the newspapers were talking about £30m, which in a vacuum I'd snap call. The only problem is that we would actually need to spend the cash rather than just bank it.

Can someone tell me about Younes Belhanda

Our front line is so weak atm that Mane would be a big improvement. We've more than enough ££ to hand over 30m and still chase an elite signing or 2 in the summer. Would like to see us tapping up Isco and bin Mata/Rooney in the summer. Throw a load of tbtvditw cash at his feet and give us a genuine quality 10 to go with Schneiderlin/Herrera.

He is absolutely terrible, as in, laughably awful. He is pretty much at the 'how the hell is this guy a professional footballer' level.

So I'm assuming no one knows anything about Marko Grujic?

Not much apart from the fact that the transfer basically saved CrvenaZvezda from filing for bankruptcy...7million for a 19 year old who is virtually unproven is a bit of a gamble.
Apparently there was some hype about him as Pool beat Anderlecht and Stuttgart for the player's signature.

I have not seen him this season where it seems like he has strangely gone out of favor at Dynamo Kiev but I did watch him in the Europa League last season and of course previously for Montpellier where he was very impressive and one of the best players in France playing a significant hand in shockingly winning the league.

A clear number 10 type who doesn't seem like the most mobile but is excellent at seeing openings and exploiting them, instigating passing combinations with great first touches and passes. Him and Giroud worked really well together at a high technical level being close to each other on the pitch

Unfortunately he was on the bench in the Serbia (the winners) U20 World Cup games that I watched late in the tournament. Looking at who played the most in that tournament it seems like just about everyone has now moved but mostly lower profile deals apart from now Grujic and standouts Savic and the not yet to move but heavily rumored to bigger clubs (Dortmund looks like the favorite) likely to happen this month Zivkovic.

t.k karlsen said this about Grujic in Norwegian (google translate):

Quote:
The most concrete case study is the Serbian central midfielder, Marko Grujic from Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) Belgrade. More possibly know the player from the Serbian team that won the U20 World Cup in the summer. Grujic was admittedly not the most prominent in this championship, but several top club scouts rightly chose to continue follow the player on the basis of what they saw in the Championship in New Zeeland. Because it was, in the months after the World Cup feat where 19-year-old really got up to speed. After he was given a freer role in midfield at the legendary club, where the 192 cm-large Serb also showcased their offensive potential.

Ball Sure, elegant and calculated

At first glance it is obvious that Grujic is a well-trained and intelligent player. He operates rarely in small margins - which is not unusual for a young player from the Balkans - and to succeed in England, he must be willing to choose more risky solutions to the opposing half. The player describes himself as an "8-er" in style of play, but at this time there is no reason to expect a new Steven Gerrard - which would only be missing since there are very few midfielders in the world as it has extreme, explosive running power which featured the former captain when he was on top. Above an "all-action" midfielder can either - at least to begin with - expect a ball sure, quite elegant and "calculated" type.

The pace is a challenge

The challenge for Grujic will obviously be getting used to the fierce pace as central midfielder men must master to succeed in the Premier League. Not only do you only a blitz second on the ball before delivery, but without the ball it is also important to be quickly up the pressure on the ball carrier. Especially on these two points, the transition from Serbian football undoubtedly great. For that reason, this is a player who will need time and if Grujic were playing to a permanent place in midfield before 2017/18 season, this must be considered a huge bonus.

thanks

Happy that he's more of a number 10, Max Meyer has taken a step forward this year imo but he's played way too many games because of no alternatives. Doesn't seem much of a risk here (ofc without an option to buy, also limited reward)
