You guys are right, joke is not the right word. I think that after a certain point, say 10 or so, until 40ish, arguing over it is kind of a joke. Iirc the points totals get very similar at that point.

put south American teams playing other south American teams in friendly matches should weigh in more than japan going up against those ****ty Asian teams. half of the nations in south America would win the asians cup if they even only played their bench

I don't have much of an impression of him. I seem to remember he got some good reviews for his performances for Villa but is he really potentially best fullback in the world level good? There are only a couple of fullbacks on the list as is. I'll keep an eye out for him next time I watch Villa.

lol, idk, it's not easy to work out how people are rating people, but the only other united players i'd say are overrated are some of the central midfield (mainly fletcher, anderson is changing my mind in the same way as nani did about 12 months ago, no ****ing clue if anyone still rates carrick but i don't). tend to agree with pretty much everywhere else about who's good and who's crap

I reckon out of Fletchers 53 caps for Scotland he's had about 5 good games

about japan, whoever said it they lost to paraguay on pens, not uruguay.

Nittery

Also, lol at basing ratings based purely who they play against, sort by opponent, become rankings expert lol...

Who cares who's capable? Its a ranking and as I said its based on actual results. Not theoretically who is the best teams. Thats for fans to argue about. Japan being where they are is also far from unrealistic in that regard as well. From 10-30 its pretty damn close between countries and they are certainly in there somewhere.

I stated my point about how those asian cup teams cant even compete against Mexico or even Argentinas/any top nations bench.

the rankings are **** though and have always been and I didnt know that Japan was actually not that bad and they their WC app wasn't a fluke. and also winning meaningful games = more pts.

its watev though and cant wait for EURO12 and am excited to see how far ITA can go
What do you mean they are a complete joke? What order would you have the countries in? How would you change the ranking system?

Of course the top Asian Cup teams could compete against Mexico or top nations benches. Thats just an ignorant statement I dunno what else to tell you.

Looking at the top of the list only Greece, Uruguay, Norway and Croatia stick out to me as being too high based on actual ability. I wouldn't have too many arguments other than nitty ones with the list.

Basically I think the fact you didn't even know Japan 'was actually not that bad' disqualifies you from having a valid opinion on the matter.

Everyone thinks our central midfield is utterly ****, which it isn't. Everyone thinks Carrick and Fletcher are wank, which they aren't. None of these are 'overrated' unless I am misunderstanding what the word means or you mean by very specific groups of people and not in general.

the match results are objective

the formula used to extrapolate the rankings from the match results, not so much
