Will the MLS teams ever join any of those competitions?

DC United played the Sudamericana in 2005

it would certainly be beneficial to MLS teams to play in those competitions imo

Yeah its why I asked. It seems to be a no-brainer and could prove beneficial to the tournament as a whole.

Maybe they dont want to play in it though. Would be interesting to get some thoughts on it all from those who follow it closely

yeah they should play them but USA didnt help its cause by fielding a bs team in Copa America in 2007.
Copa Libertadores is probably the most epic tournament in the world, every second leg is a dramabomb, in our campaing so far the cops have had to intervene 3 times already, I expect a fourth against Chivas.

ps: I havent met anybody that is against an american team playing, the point is that we all agree it should be at the expense of the mexicans, so if we give a spot to the MLS then the mexicans would lose one and the Conmebol just doesnt want any more trouble.

The MLS needs to offer a product that the other leagues cant offer and the only thing they can give is international competion, the CONCACAF champions league is not nearly strong enough to provide real intrest so their only hope is the Libertadores.
OTOH we would benefit for having an american team, there would be more intrest in the cup, it would have an extra ingredient, etc.
Plus a team involving Henry or Beckham cant possibly be bad for the Libertadores

Its win-win for both sides, the only losers would be mexicans.

Anyway the people in charge of football are absolute ******s so thats the best explanation I can come up with.

lol no way we should give up one of our spots to USA. if anything we deserve more spots. 2 guaranteed and 1 playoff is bad enough.

how many spots does Argentina get? Brazil? they probably get like 5 each or something.

Will this be a sell out tonight between Chivas and Utd?

This is completely irrelevant. Belgium isn't in because it's the World Cup, not the mEhopean Cup. It's a global competition.

What's annoying is how FIFA takes such a strong line versus political interference into FAs, but somehow 'miss' something serious like this because they are too much of a pussy to stand up to a true wronging.

The MLS commissioner said during the WC that the MLS isn't interested in Copa Libertadores. I don't blame him. The league title is more prestigious than any international competition for MLS.

Well, most fans here care more about the league than the CONCACAF Champions League. League games sell better than any other competition. I didn't mean to say anything ******ed like MLS>UCL.

Becuse the teams would get humiliated, which would be bad for any soccer boom

Except that the NBA and MLB are by far the best league in the world so the perception is correct while the MLS is on the par with the peruvian league or something.

MLS teams not entering the Copa Libertadores is just dumb on every level. It would be such an opportunity to increase the popularity of the league. Oh and get rid of play-offs and keep the league a league.

I have never watched a single MLS game but I'd watch them in an international champions league.
