Anyone not watching Utopia needs to be.

Re: The Ending:

Spoiler:
The problem I have with that is that I can't relate to the cops at all. Like, they're just sort of sadistic guys, so whatever, but they don't respond in a way I can relate to, or even find compelling.

The clapping at the end just leaves you saying "What the ****" not thinking about how it's a commentary on people loving vigilantes. It's just not a believable reaction. If they'd have clapped long enough to get him in cuffs and haul him away, ok. But what group of cops doesn't realize both men are going to face charges there?

I guess my issue stems from the fact that I don't get the relevance of the movie. It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know or make me look at something a different way. It just reinforced that chemically unbalanced people can be dangerous, which can be accomplished in a much less painful way.

Truthfully, I'm not gonna try too hard to defend the ending because I didn't think they totally stuck it. They went a little soft at the end.

Re the relevance, I dunno. I thought it was funny and was able to push me to uncomfortable and dark places while still making me laugh, which is a pretty rare gift.

I mean, if they (cops) had killed Ronnie, I think I could get behind that. He's an awful character beyond redemption (even on his meds he was terrible) and he's committed a violent crime. Typically in that spot bad things happen.

I think my biggest beef was that I felt so out of place watching the film. Like I had no one to relate to. For all my faults, I'm not totally unhinged so I couldn't relate to Ronnie. For a time I could sort of relate to the Cops. I mean, who wouldn't take just a little pleasure in ****ing with someone like Ronnie who unquestionably deserves it, but then in the end they accpted him?? Don't know man.

It was absolutely a "real" movie. No dressing at all, but the lack of a "straight man", or improvement, or a tragic flaw bringing Ronnie down, just left it feeling pointless to me.

"Maron" is pretty good (I've seen the first 3 episodes). I thought the first few episodes of "Orange is the New Black" were good, but it's beginning to get boring. And I'm about to start watching "Deadwood".

I finally got around to Deadwood this month while I was laid up. It does not disappoint.

This guy is good but I haven't read more yet.

I haven't been able to find a good critic who's more interested in storytelling and craft than overreading every single ****ing detail into something political.

Like when did every, say, female character turn into a representation of all women and why does every director have to be branded feminist or anti-feminist (or whatever label that is deemed Important at the moment)? Why can't any non-white male (or Denzel) character be appreciated as a complex, independent creation?

I like to think there's more universality to life and I like to think it's worth discussing. Instead, fashionable criticism is about filling and sorting boxes - especially where it's tangential or unimportant.

Seems like an easy watch, only 36 eps.

Might need to watch that next then BWE.

You're talking to a guy who had to watch his brother's show dragged through the mud by a few critics and websites whose entire take was "lame i'm so sick of white male antiheroes #selfie". This is the dictionary definition of "preaching to the choir."

Pretty sure your bro got the last laugh. True detective was by far the best new show introduced last year, those critics still are posting bad selfies

The real win is taking Michelle Monghan, Alexandra Daddario, or Lili Simmons for a spin on the ol' casting couch.

I'm going to accept this as truth if Diora Baird shows up in season two.

Oh, certainly. It's just dismaying for someone who grew up on Roger Ebert to see the current-day critical community too largely concerned about whether their tender politics have been bruised.

I seem to be in the minority but I'd say no.
The plot lines just aren't very interesting imo. Oh noes, there's beef between two girls who work in the kitchen!! They're totally going to talk **** behind each others back now! Yawn...

I enjoyed OitNB, but on the whole not really sold on Netflix originals.

The second seasons of their shows have had enough of a drop off that I'm worried about their next batch of shows/seasons.

Season 1 closes strong.

Season 2 was a bit of a mess. A couple of the major plotlines were turds. I still enjoyed it.
