1. The Wire
2. Breaking Bad
3. The Sopranos
4. Mad Men
5. Deadwood (overrated on 2p2. gets 5th because there is no other show worthy)

After the first two seasons of GoT, I was convinced it would end up being in the top 5. Two seasons later, I'm positive it won't be top 5.

Comedy

Curb
Seinfeld
Arrested Development
Office (early seasons
30 Rock

Drama
Wire
Sopranos (although Sopranos is more rewatchable than Wire I think)
Breaking Bad
Sons of Anarchy

haven't seen Deadwood, GoT or Mad Men yet

The Sopranos, The Wire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and, to a lesser extent, Deadwood and Six Feet Under are works of art.

Everything else is just entertainment.

The Sopranos
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Mad Men

None of the other shows have reached that class imo. GoT is massively overrated ITT. TD is elite, but only one season doesn't seem fair.

I think Boardwalk Empire went from way overrated to now underrated. There have been some elite moments in that show (but a lot of bad ones as well). Probably a top ~15 drama.

Curb is #1 for comedy AINEC

I like it because it doesn't let you observe some fictional protagonist make his way through the world, but forces you to follow the main protagonist in anyone's life- the fact that at any moment anyone around you could be taken away, and you yourself could be next.

I like it because it isn't 'woo lets strap in for this ride' or 'lets dissect how this show is an allegory for a decade past' but 'what would you do in this situation? How would you handle this differently?' I think it asks questions that only the individual viewer can answer.
The Leftovers contains some pretty standard postmodern storytelling, and there is definitely nothing new or groundbreaking going on. You could easily make the same argument that there isn't a definitive protagonist in GoT, but that doesn't mean there's some higher, thought-provoking reason for it.

I'm only two episodes in, but The Leftovers doesn't seem compelling at all, and for the most part is just bad and uninteresting and sometimes depressing and bleak as ****.

I totally get not liking GOT. But the talk of it falling off is really confusing me. Season 4 was easily the best. So many scenes would have been strong season-enders for other shows, but GOT just kept throwing haymakers.

The royal wedding
Tyrion' s trial
Littlefinger's long con
Mountain v. Viper

And still so much character development. After every season, a series rewatch has been like watching a different show.

It's up there with The Wire for me.

As someone that is currently on their first watch through of SFU, it clearly seems a tier or 2 below the others.

GOT has the disadvantage of people expecting crazy **** to happen every single episode. So when you get a couple of episodes that are builders for the moment people start hating.

Yeah GOT can a have a letdown here and there but when it's good it's amazing. Like the Blackwater episode.

Agree with this. When I see reruns in seasons 2/3/4, it's just on another tier.

mad men went from "work of art" to self-parody sometime in s3 or 4 as well.

Rick and Morty is too ugly to be in the top three.

Learn to draw yo, visuals matter in an animated show.

Just got into a "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" binge recently due to Seinfeld being on the Daily Show. The Letterman episode is so, so good. Funny, insightful, with good stories. Had to rewind it several times.

Batman is #1 for "western style animated" AINEC especially if you take into account when it was made. Ironically it was animated by a Japanese studio iirc.

Rick&Morty very elite. Haven't watched Simpsons in forever but when I did it was pretty strong (also like Futurama and Family Guy for similar-ish shows). Never really enjoyed South Park as much as most people. Archer is pretty strong as well.

Beavis and Butt-head pretty underrated these days.

I wouldn't count Spawn (the one that used to be on HBO) since it's more like the Sherlock of animated shows but that's probably my all time favourite animated show.

yeah early Office is great before the show just kinda ran out of stuff to do.

Everyone loves the British edition but it was 12 eps, a lot easier to put on good comedy for 12 eps than 150

Only just getting round to watching the office now.
Which season does it start to go downhill?

middle seasons

think the big wedding was about the last hurrah, and probably should have been the series finale
still some laughs after that, but the show got pretty silly and bad, especially towards the end

edit: yeah ok, the wedding ep was early S6, but it was already getting kinda bad in S5
so eps 104/105 are a decent place to stop and pretend like the show ended there
(if you get that far)
