Pretty disappointed about Florida not playing. It was really important that the offense gets as many reps at "game" speed before the games start to count.

That is awful luck for Florida. You guys might really need that win for a bowl game, especially since if you need that win for a bowl game you're going to have a new coach for the bowl game and he'll need the extra practices.

Stories of the week IMO:

1 TX A&M/SC. Aggies are reloading sooner than expected and it's bad news for everybody else. SC looks like a distant second best in the East, if that.

2 John Chavis (LSU) and Ellis Johnson (AU). Two veteran DCs that turned marshmallow first half defenses into basically immovable objects in the second half.

3 Gurley has that Heisman look and although it's early, Georgia looks like it is going to be two games in its home state away from a playoff spot. If they beat Auburn at home and the SECWest champ in the Ga dome, I think they'll be in.

Incomplete information rankings:

Auburn
Georgia
TX A&M
Bama
LSU
MSU
Ole Miss
SC
Arkansas
Mizzou
Florida
Tennessee
Kentucky
Vandy

Would love to get BigPoppas updated thoughts on UGA's O/U of 9.5.

Obviously anything can happen but if UGA ends up 9-3, then wow what a massive fail.

Lol at Bama fourth

We always get off to slow start and improve throughout the season...we were also missing our best inside linebacker for just this one game; if he played WVU wouldn't have broken 13 points

Our tough games aren't until oct/nov so we'll be 3x better by then

Lol at A&M jumping up to 3rd because they beat a lolEast team

2011: 48-7 over kent state
2012: 41-14 over michigan
2013: 35-10 over VT

Those don't seem like slow starts to me. It was West Virginia... They are one of the worst teams in the big 12 and y'all managed to let them hang around the entire game. Yeah y'all will get better but you're fooling yourself if you think this Bama team is even close to the prior teams.

And it's not unrealistic at all that y'all will finish 3/4 in the west behind A&M auburn or LSU...

Let me remind you again that crushing an east team is a much better result than taking the entire game to beat an lol big 12-2 garbage team

Yeah wtf slow starts? Bama fans so spoiled. Y'all seem to always crush inferior competition early in season. I don't really like the rankings this early either. And week 2 is absolute garbage. Not a single good sec game.

Would def take bama straight up against tamu or uga next wk for sure.

We are much worse early in seasons than later...Saban gets the team playing much better as the season goes on

That's separate from beating garbage teams like you posted there

We can win and still not be as good as later in the year

This year we lost our QB and our leading tackler was out for one game so our team wasn't going to be as good right away and we will take some time to fill in the gaps from what we lost over the summer

That statement is true for almost every team... Ofc you're going to get better as the season progresses

Sorry guys, let me redo my rankings after I give Bama points for the improvements they're going to make as the season goes on. It's not fair to have TX A&M ahead of them because Bama lost their QB and a linebacker and are going to get better.

Bama lost a QB while A&M upgraded theirs.

Well if we are solely basing on week 1 results, UGA should be ahead of Auburn. But we shouldn't. I am respecting Bama and not putting them 4.

True, we aren't solely going on week 1. If we were, I'd go UGA 1st and Bama 5th. I'm ranking them on (gasp!) how good I think they are. A lot of week 1, with a touch of expectations, returning players, coaching, etc. Yes, I would take TXA&M on a neutral field next week vs. Bama. I'd take every team on that list over the team beneath it, with the exception of SC. I probably dropped them a rung too low, but they deserve it for that performance.

Anyway, yeah national rankings suck this early but it's a good conversation starter so anyone else feel free to give theirs.

P.S. if anyone wants to bet Bama's season wins on whatever the preseason line was, I'm in for any amount.

Solely based on week 1 on I'd go aTm, UGA, AUB, LSU, Bama. But, with all of the other factors I'd go:

Aub
aTm
UGA
Bama
LSU
MSU
SC
Ark
OM
Mizz
UF
UK
UT
Vandy

UF and Missouri could make big jumps. I'm anxious to see what Tennessee looks like in a few hours. That is very dangerous game for them.

Some notables (Haven't watched the UGA or LSU games yet (have them on DVR)). Not interested in ranking yet:

Bama - I thought West Virginia looked pretty good, actually. That secondary is...gonna' be an issue. I don't even know who the running backs are anymore. Not having a problem with the Kiffin offense, in fact I like the way he mixed in some up-tempo no-huddle sequences. Blake Sims may be the second-best quarterback the Tide has had in the last 30 years, which is not an especially high bar.

Auburn - Well now I see why Marshall's Heisman odds are up there. That other dude is probably going to get in there sometimes, and why not? Brilliant strategery by the defense in the first half; make the Arky offense overconfident AND get the ball back into the offense's hands! They seem to either have a number of tall receivers with great hands and awareness, or one guy who's freakin' everywhere. Running game may be better. I did not see the same type of befuddlement, I just saw beaten, outran, and exhausted by the end of the first half. The Tigers' typical time between whistle-down and snap appears to be significantly faster this year, especially when Marshall is in.

Arky - Good gameplan, no halftime adjustments. Who the hell do you think you are, Mike Shula? I don't think they're going to be very good for a while. See Mike Shula.

Mississippi State: I expect nobody watched and the final was a 49-0 blowout, but it was actually much closer than that especially early when SMiss was driving and then fumbling near the goal line. Similar to a lot of the Boise State conference games when they had Kellen Moore. They're still Mississippi State, and no, they won't have a Heisman trophy winner, IMO.

Ole Miss: Well they had a **** first half, then chilled the **** down and won by 22 and got almost 400 yards from the quarterback who's perceived as terrible. Not sure I wouldn't rather have their offense's first half than Auburn's defensive one.

Pretty sure the others are obvious; lol Vandy & USC, not lol TAMU.

It's not an argument, it's the truth

After one week, you can compare how your team played against a better opponent than top-2 teams did against worse opponents and try to use that to argue your team is better

It goes away after a few games (and a loss by your team), but that small sample size argument is killer in late-aug/early-sep

Where did I argue A&M was better? I simply said Bama could easily finish third in the west this year because they looked like dog ****. And then you made some comment about how y'all always start slow when that's not even close to true. I guess they don't teach reading comprehension in Alabama?

Loving the superiority complex though

I didn't go to Bama

And they do get better as season goes on...showing us beating a few crappy teams early on doesn't refute that

And I responded that we also lost our QB and our top tackler (1 game only) so this should be more pronounced than usual

Also, it was also razorbacker and sly...I'm not directing this just at you
