There is no serious criminal case against Trump for a campaign finance violation relating to the Daniels payoff. It would, at most, be a technical violation that no sane prosecutor would base criminal charges on (assuming that such charges could be brought against the president).

Although I have zero sympathy for Trump, I am puzzled by the CNN and MSNBC pundits’ apparent unanimity that Giuliani’s statement that Trump reimbursed Cohen was an admission that Trump lied, when he previously said he had not known of the Daniels payoff. There is no necessary contradiction here.

Trump’s story now is that he knew nothing about the payoff when it occurred, but since it was made on his behalf by his lawyer, he felt obliged to reimburse Cohen for the payment. If in fact Trump reimbursed Cohen, that could only have been hidden for a short time before becoming undeniable. I don’t believe that Giuliani did Trump any serious harm in revealing the reimbursement.
sounds like this is what they're going for

Here's some small good news. I fell down a rabbit hole of his NBC playlist and ended up with a video about a Charlottesville Neo-Nazi and how his mother turned from "Laughs at racist jokes" to "Hosting Neo-Nazi training and denying the Holocaust"

Can't let that go without following up, and thankfully, ****heel got got in court two days ago. Hopefully he gets a decent sentence later this year.

Any hot takes as to whether the Dems should bring up impeachment?

Spoiler:
I think it would be both a political mistake and an ethical mistake.

Political because I think it would be a net negative electorally, incentivizing Trumps base to vote more than Dems. I believe this happened for Bill Clinton.

Ethical mistake because I think it would be extremely divisive for country. Absent more information, changes need to arise from the voting booth.

This all changes if there emerges more justifiable reasons for impeachment (e.g. proven collusion, etc.).

The Democrats should definitely not bring up impeachment. Firstly because they don't have the votes, not even close. And as you say it would hurt them in the polls. They could only impeach with significant support from Republicans (lol). But even if there were a chance at successfully impeaching Trump, you should remember, Mike Pence. He's got just as many horrible policy ideas but he's quietly boring and non-offensive. He would be a much more formidable foe in 2020, and would have a much better chance to get stuff done in the interim, since he would probably be less historically unpopular compared to Trump.

So what would the Democrats gain from impeachment? Absolutely nothing as far as I can tell. So I'm guessing the Democrats move forward with impeachment proceedings sooner rather than later.

lol @ insisting to not do something because it might make people more divided. That ship has sailed.

If you wanna argue the other one, eh, idk. People voted Jimmy Carter in after nixon.

Impeaching Trump now is a mistake because it's much more likely to work in a few months when Mueller lays the smackdown on his candy ass

I saw this bull****. **** Scott Pruitt hard. He's effectively ****ty at his job, the mother****er bases EPA policy on the bible, flits around the world in luxury on bull**** junkets. It's entirely possible to be heated about every terrible aspect of this ghoul. I'm not hearing enough from prominent SCIENCE folk about how ridiculous this administration's attitude is towards stuff like, well, science.

To the shock of no one, Cohen's been taking bribes

Cliffs: AT&T was facing an anti-trust suit from Trump's justice dept. and decided that was the best time to pay Cohen $200k for "insights" regarding the Trump Administration...

The "call" was a no brainer.

The Broidy ($1.6 million) payoff will turn out to be done for Trump with other people's money.

The Trump grifting money trail will not surprise me. It could be in the millions, could be in the hundreds of millions.

I am leaning towards Trump has grifted hundreds of millions from Russians in various schemes.
