You could do worse than pick Aston Villa IMO. They have quite a few good players and are a young up and coming team. Not a "glory hunting" choice either.

Its only a matter of time before ManU or Chelsea buy Villa's young players, that way they can maintain their rep of being English team that develop good English players.

On that note City v Portsmouth today was highly entertaining. A lot of chances for both sides and featuring Elano playing at right-back. I felt City deserved the win overal and Redknapp even sounded gracious in defeat after the game

Same here, I just like watch them play their attacking style but also theirs always a cynical side inside of me that just wants them to lose because thats what they do. They are the lovable losers of the EPL imo, they are kind of like the Lions of the EPL and I the Lions.

As for how I picked my side (man utd) I would see the random CL games as a kid (born in 87) on ESPN and they would most likely be on and it just kind of grew from there. I just fell in love with watching Beckham's free kicks, Keano's hard nosed tackles, and RVN scoring goals left and right. After being a casual fan for a few years just checking scores online I started to follow intensely and now rarely miss any games.

I could see how some people call me a bandwagoner but as a 12 year old kid just seeing them play on ESPN with no clue about their history drew me to them.

I lived on Guildford, Surrey when I was 5, I had no local team to support and my dad told me to support Liverpool because thats where the Beatles come from so I stuck with them forever.( this was on 1994 btw) When we were watching the semi-final agaisnt Chelsea this year he admited to me that he actually liked Liverpool because the way Robbie Fowler and Steve McMannaman played, the beatles excuse was something he came up with to make sure I supported Liverpool. Now that I think about it that was really fortunate since he could have chosen Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers or *gasp* Manchester United.
Whenever I run into a self proclaimed Liverpool fan here ( by here I mean chile)I ask them what were they doing when we played Olympiakos, none of them know what Im talking about
This is my story, I already posted it but I think I can post it again given the circusntances of the thread.

I`ve heard he volunteered for that.

I agree it was very entertaining, especially the fun with Distin kissing the badge and James having a laugh with the crowd. Good oh.

Portsmouth looked a bit out of sorts though.

Clark,

Still a few games left this season to watch spurs/newcastle/arsenal and then make a decision imo.

Clark,

I went through this decision earlier in the season and went with Spurs. Very happy with the choice, and as TSC said, it looks to be a very interesting summer in terms of roster turnover.

Some reasons to pick Spurs: They play attacking football as everyone as said, they have a strong fan base. Best rivalry in the EPL (Arsenal). They are one of the few clubs outside the big four where you can somewhat imagine them breaking into the top 4 (finished 5th the previous two seasons). They have a good mix of young players, and two great strikers (although Berbatov is probably out). Ramos is considered by many to be a great manager. And they have the ability to spend some money. They also have a strong history in the domestic cups.

Reason not to pick Spurs: The biggest underachievers in the league.

I think ManU/Pool is probably the biggest rivalry in the league, but Arsenal/Spurs is up there.

i don't see how you can argue a non-derby is the biggest rivalry in the premiership.

The next few years should be interesting for Newcastle. Keegan's got a track record of building attacking teams that play nice football but he also has some major flaws. He acknowledges his tactically naïve, he wares his heart on his sleeve and allows others to wind him up, he loves to spend money if Newcastle have 50mil to spend you can bet he wont leave some for next year, he made a horrible decision to dismantle Newcastle's youth academy last time he was in charge and probably put them back years.
Having watched him with city he got us playing some great football the season we won the league; we had two tiny playmakers in a league where all the pundits said we would be kicked to pieces. Then he spent a ton of money on over the hill players and nearly bankrupted us and when the money dried up he walked away.

Clark do you travel at all? If so than a London based club might bring more to the table if you'd ever be interested in making a trip to overseas.

Seriously, go for Newcastle cos we're ****ing awesome. I agree with raju though, my Granny still moans on about low attendances when we were in the 2nd division.

Having said that, we're still awesome.

Not really. its a goal of mine to travel more, but I'm realistic enough to know that England is probably down on the list. But heck, if I was traveling to England, I suspect I'd find a way to get to my team's game regardless of loc.

I am hoping to hit South Africa in 2010 for at least a week or two.

The part I edited out, even if intended to be lighthearted, is exactly the type of thing that gets peoples emotions boiling in this thread. I know you can make your point without it.
