I'll go through this slowly

1. I think Scola > West for this draft for the most part
2. Scola was just drafted
3. Scola was drafted by the team with Lebron
4. I don't think Scola fits well with Lebron
5. Lebron's team is one of the few teams that I don't think #1 applies

Ibaka seems like the best pick of the last few.

15 hours what? I have been out all day. checked my pms and thats it

12-10-2011 , 07:17 PM
so, when you checked the PMs you didn't find the 5 seconds to see how the draft's going?

I am in 3 drafts and I checked my pms on my phone. Even if I went in the thread it would take minutes to see who was up before and after me

How hard is it to check the thread, if you're already checking PM's?

Damn, minutes.

That's rough.

Sorry idk about your life but I've been out doing things and driving all day. It is common courtesy to pm the person who is next. Especially on the weekend

agreed it is a common courtesy, that sucks that tron forgot. but when you sign up you're also signing up to follow the draft and it is your responsibility to know when you're up

pretty sure it was confirmed before the draft started that this would be serious bizness

man i think ppl who had a top 5 pick needed to **** up for others ot have a shot...

and i think wade/lebron ppl might've done just that. im also not really sold on d.west with durant, although i expect west to come back pretty healthy and not be too bothered by the knee just because he's primarily a jumpshooter aynways.

but who cares about all that when IU is up by 10 on kentucky?

Ryan Gomes(2439 minutes played) and Rashad McCants(2020 minutes played) were actually both fairly solid that year.

Gomes: +2.0 simple rating, +9.16 1yr APM
McCants: +2.6 simple rating, +7.28 1yr APM

note: 2yr APM not available because they don't have APM stats for the 2006-07 season

FWIW Al Jefferson(I assume you are referring to him as that team's best player) had a -0.1 simple rating and an absurd -13.66 1yr APM.

Are they a full 8 wins better?
I'm not very familiar with trying to quantify win shares by player, so I'd be hesitant to comment on this.

Quote:
See that's the problem, Kevin Love comes in has a solid rookie year and they win 24 games. The years the team is centered around him they actually get worse. That should just never happen to a guy you think could have been playing the best basketball in the league through 30 games
Why should that never happen? If his teammates are a whole lot worse then it could easily happen.

For the record, the 2010-11 TWolves have a pythagorean record of 24-58 while the 2007-08 Wolves were 23-59. Unless you give me a good reason otherwise, I think pythagorean wins are more indicative of future performance and should be used in place of regular w/l record during these discussions.

Quote:
The point is that there is an immediate impact and positive contribution to a team's success that just isn't there with Love.
I cut out a few paragraphs here, but I think this quoted sentence is your conclusion....

And basically its the same exact argument we had a few months ago.

Assani/Rob: We think KLove is vastly underrated. We think so because of various stats that we will explain.

You/Thayer/a few others: I'm definitely skeptical of this as it goes against what I previously believed. My main criticism is that the Wolves aren't that good as a team.

Assani: Thats a fair criticism. I think one reason for this is that people often times don't discern between the varying levels of "bad" players(as you can see, many in this thread thought that John Wall's supporting cast was as bad as Love's, which imo is way way more laughable than any of our other disagreements). KLove's teammates are really really bad. They drafted/signed Beasley, Darko, Flynn, and Ellington over the past few years, all of whom have turned out to be horrendous. Wesley Johnson is also bordering on being a bust so far.

Basically you feel as if Love is a top 15-20 player and that his supporting cast is about equally bad as some of the other poor supporting casts around the league. I feel as if Love is a top 10-15 player and that his supporting cast is by far the worst in the league.

Quote:
I also believe you need to start valuing context more, not all stats are created equal imo. The eye test does have some value. Not as much as the casual fan would believe, but definitely more than you give it credit for.
I hate this argument so much. The underlying implication here is that I don't possess the "game watching" ability that many others here do and that I, in turn, rely upon stats too much in order to make up for this lack of ability. This is without a doubt wrong. If I hadn't gotten into poker my most likely occupation right now would be as a coach on the college level. I think I am more than capable of watching players and using the eye test. I also think that I watched Love and the Wolves as much as anyone last year, in part because I had extra interest in them from our debates. I also don't diminish the eye test nearly as much as you think, although I remain constantly aware of the impact that different biases can have upon it.

wesrwood, Many of us are online poker pros who work at home 8+ hours/day and use these things to help pass the time. They're a big time commitment, and they definitely aren't for everyone. If you can't be online as much as some of us, then just partner up with someone and co-own. There doesn't need to be any hard feelings about this; We're just trying to make the expectations clear to you(that you check in constantly to see if you're up...even on weekends). Theres no hard feelings if you can't meet those expectations and have to take on a co-owner, and you can still enjoy the draft just as much with a co-owner imo.

Disagree wrt to Harden especially. His efficiency went up during the playoffs when he played starter minutes.

Also, Manu Ginobli was a 6th man for awhile. Coaches are weird.

Plus you can be a 6th man, but still play fairly significant (starter-type) minutes.

obviously many factors went into my drafting of scola. at the time of my pick i obv wanted a specific type of player (because i have lebron)... i felt scola was the best of those players...and i think to say someone doesnt fit well with lebron is absurd... any big who is above avg (scola) is naturally a good fit with lebron imo... dont really want to go into specifics because of strategy but yeah

anyway, i obviously think lebron/scola gives me a very solid foundation

I have been in numerous drafts and have never had a problem. I am a father so I cant just sit at the computer all day. Idk why I am the one coming under fire when the guy picking never pm'd me.
