My draft pick selection for my team, the Tebow Checkmates is:

Amar'e Stoudemire

I wasn't sure who I would draft at #17 today, but this tweet made my decision an easy one:

Quote:
Amareisreal Amar'e Stoudemire
Leaving practice today. Measured in at 6'11" 260 pounds, with 7% body fat. I'm ready!! All that work on my back payed off, I'm now 6'11"
It looks like Amare is in great shape for this season and is in an even better mindset.

He's also a leader and he's not afraid of a challenge. He's ready to be a franchise guy. This was shown by being the first and only big name to sign with the Knicks in 2010 Summer. He's poised to have a huge season playing alongside Tyson Chandler (98% confirmed but whatevz), as this lets him slide over to his more natural position of PF.

thanks. i had 'em ranked RWB LMA Amare. If this draft was yesterday I probably would've taken Amare but after dar0 brought up aldridge's name and i did some deeper research i was keeping my fingers crossed that he'd fall to me. very happy to have a solid, young big man in this spot.

Ya, Aldridge was monstrous last year. Made some real impressive strides

LMA was an absolute BEAST after the all-star game last year, good pick, was hoping people would forget about him and he'd slip to me

EDIT: Also, I'm pretty sure he's 7'4"

Aldridge fell waaaay too far in this draft. He should have gone in front of Bosh, Love, and ZBo. I think he's right with Griffin. He carried the Blazers with a meager supporting class and no low-post help at Center. He's also improved his game tremendously:

Last Season by Month: (pts/reb)
Oct: 15.7 / 9.7
Nov: 18.9 / 8.0
Dec: 20.4 / 8.6
Jan: 24.9 / 10.4
Feb: 27.8 / 9.3
Mar: 20.1 / 7.1
Apr: 20.8 / 10.2

He definitely regressed there in the last two months, but that was a regression TO 20/10. His January and February were 1st Team NBA worthy. He's also a much better defender than Love/ZBo.

i'm super high on love but his (lack of) defensive ability is a concern to me.

im confused why bosh is getting this hate all of a sudden. do you not remember the raptors made the playoffs twice with him as their best player and would have made it in 09-10 had he not gotten injured?

i think a team built around bosh can definitely succeed

i'm not sure how well-received PER/APER are on this forum, but if you're into that stuff Bosh doesn't rank too favorably. and he certainly doesn't make up for it with intangibles, imo.

again, i don't think he's a bad player but he's more of a 2nd rounder in my eyes.

LMA was def awesome last year but I dont think hes that far ahead of bosh if at all. let me go find the bobbo/everyone posts about how much they hated him and how he was the softest big man in the league/always settled for bad long 2s etc during the 09-10 season.

i think theres a good chance LMA has changed his game and believe his improvements are for real but id def like to see another season of it before being sure

he doesnt?

"LMA should have gone ahead of bosh" is based purely on last year where he had a 21.5 PER w a 54.9 TS%. in bosh's FIVE seasons before '10-'11 he never had a PER below 22.1 and never had a TS% below 56.9. LMA's TRB% last year was a pretty consistent with his career avg of 13.5%. Again, Bosh never had a TRB% of lower than 14.2% in his 5 years prior to '10-11.

Don't have actual statistics handy, but I do remember hearing that LMA's improvement last year corresponded strongly with him taking more shots at the rim. Something like going from 4 shots/game within 10 feet to 8 shots/game within 10 feet.

While everybody else is loading up on overrated PF's, I'll take the wing who can still give an elite 35 mins a game. He has a rang and finals MVP so you know he's clutch, and he still gives super efficient scoring with + efficiency, good D, and solid rebounding and passing. He's overall way better than lol Bosh, lol Love, and lol Z-Bo, should have been an easy top 15 pick.

But isn't last year the best year to use in predicting performance this year? Especially because last year is the only year that properly scores Bosh while playing for Miami? Also last year saw significant changes in Aldridge's play style and also was the only year where he had to carry the team without Roy (which he'll have to do again this year)?

man pierce was efficient last year.

im sry i hate to keep defending bosh but just no way 34 yo paul pierce>>bosh as a player to build your team around in this league.

no, i made the point earlier that while for the most part last year/last 2 years stats will do some people are exceptions (you see i was fine using last year for aldridge even though it could have hurt my point).

do you really think bosh just got worse by a lot? i think its much more likely his production dip can be explained by 2 things

-lack of usage
-change of roles.

his role and usage will be similar to when he was the #1 option on toronto where he put up 5 consistent seasons that were better than aldridge's one breakout season.

i dont see how this is close

Are you guys assuming 66 or 82 game season, and does it make a difference?
Official NBA Single Season Draft Thread Quote
12-08-2011 , 07:34 PM
i dont think it really makes that big of a difference although teams with players who have injury history (paul) or who are great but have a lot of miles on them (dirk/kobe) wud def benefit from shorter season

i didnt really think about it tbh, wat do others think?

Let's say 66
And then the playoffs
That's what I'm assuming

So guys might preform meh in reg season but potentially better in playoffs

So draft ends, and we can smack talk and pre season rankings

Season ends and we create a seeded bracket ..... Playoffs end and we go through the bracket

was tossing up between rwb/melo/zbo, and ended up going with zbo because he was so much better this season. imo melo is going to have a big year, rwb too, and zbo is probably peaking in acclaim atm. he could easily have get fat and revert to the old zbo now that he's paid

will be interesting to see how this looks post season
