Well my suggestion to keep Taveras in the starting rotation over Wakefield when Lester is ready is looking better and better.
lol. toro, you should be forced to preface every baseball post you make with this quote.
Face reality NT, Tavarez has fewer losses, fewer hits allowed, fewer walks allowed. I mean he's the clear choice.

rofl nh

My opinion on Taveras or Wakefield should be obvious, and I'm not going to expand on that.

As for Papelbon and Okajima, Papelbon is a legitimate ace closer. Okajima will cool off significantly, but is still rather nice. I would hardly worry.

He's a scumbag, showing his true colors. We've seen this before.

I look forward to Schilling putting one between the numbers on aRod's back tomorrow.

waaaaaay more likely it would be donnelly or somebody else coming into the game later on.

i would love to see him get hit though, that was such a douche move. i'm all for sliding hard, etc, but that was way over the line.

Also, if Okajima starts to crap the bed, make Lopez the SU guy!

I will be pissed if he gets sent down again. I realize it's probably inevitable with Timlin coming back (they can't send Pineiro or Romero down, correct?), but he's been really good so far.
I don't see how they could possibly send Lopez down. He's been amazing this time around. Besides, it was him and not Romero that Tito used in a big spot in an important game tonight. That shows extreme confidence, IMO. I guess it's gotta be him or Romero, right? Or is it possible Piniero could be the odd man out?

Oh well.

But I remember a little prediction I made 2 years ago when I said they would make Schilling the closer. When they did, Sublime vowed to never ever question me again.

And to those questioning whether Wake can go to the bullpen, he has performed in every conceiveable bullpen role, long man, setup and closer for the Sox.

A couple more good outings in a row for Tavares and a couple more bad ones in a row for Wakefield and it could happen.

Edit: Oh man, just noticed it. After all these years on these boards and I finally have a subtitle. This has made my day.

just fyi:

wakefield: 57.1 IP, 3.14 ERA, 32K / 25BB, 5.02 K/9, 1.29 WHIP
tavarez : 42.2 IP, 5.27 ERA, 25K / 19BB, 5.20 K/9, 1.47 WHIP

man, you're right, tavarez may have pitched fewer innings, giving up more walks and hits per inning, and 2 extra runs per nine innings, but he DOES strike out .18 more guys per 9 innings.

toro,

even in a great outing like tavarez just had, he still didn't go 6 innings. he's only gone 6 innings twice this year. I'm not complaining now, because I'll take 5/3 from him as a #5, but Wakefield will pretty much always give you consistent long outings and a 4.5ish ERA, whereas Tavarez may give you the same ERA or so, but eat up far less innings.

their career ERAs are actually fairly similar, and tavarez has the benefit of having been a reliever and pitching in the NL for a long time.

I didn't see it, but could it have been retaliation for Pedroia not coming anywhere near the bag trying to break up a double play?

a-rod is known for sliding dirty. what makes it funnier is that it's not like he couldn't just get his spikes up or something, he just sucks at takeout slides.

orlando cabrera used to do the same thing, probably still does. supposedly youkilis is often guilty of this but i have never seen him do it.

I saw this play and Arod was damn lucky he didn't get called for interference resulting in the Yankees having a run taken off the board.

In the play, he went out of his way to make contact, but that in of itself would have been okay since he had part of the bag. But then he added a double forearm shiver to Pedroia's midsection. If the ump had seen this part of it clearly he would have been justified in making the call.

Of course that would have taken big balls in yankee Stadium but I believe it was Joe West and I think he's the one who called ARod for interfernce back in 04.

Neither of those stat lines look very good at all. Doesn't look too promising.

I dont know much about baseball, so sorry if this is dumb.

I cant understand why your allowed to slide feet first in to a player or run into a guy trying to knock the ball free. Tackles that would be allowed in some contact sports. Guess its just the way its always been, but it doesnt seem worth the injury risk.

Great.... Timlin's rehabing. Who goes when he comes back if its Lopez I am gonna be pissed. Hopefully its Pinero or Romero, neither of them are getting any innings and when they do they suck. I don't know if the Red Sox would try to send them down though since they don't have options and Lopez does.

You have to think one of our relief pitchers (aside from Papelbon and Okajima, I think anyone goes) is going to get traded to somebody, e.g. the Phillies or the Cubs.

i went to the pawsox last night, gabbard's start. timlin pitched and didnt look very sharp, most of his pitches missed location and the strikes he did get (under 50%, i forget exact balls:strikes) seemed like AAA hitters chasing. i'm not excited about his return.

ellsbury was impressive, even in a so-so game. he's so fast its ridiculous.
