Canada won 2010, 2014 because they were big, fast and skilled. Guys like Nash, Getzlaf, Perry, Thorton, Benn, Carter, etc. They could push around the European teams and were more skilled than USA. Now the USA teams are deeper on skill and Canada is still trying to build teams that push teams around but can't score.

L take. canada has the best team ..... every time? probably. sometimes they don't win because there's a shitload of luck in hockey. apparently that final might have been something like 6-2 canada on xg. 6 seems high, don't know how many games i've seen with 6 xg, but that toews chance, mackinnon's empty net, mcbust and celebrini with breakaways, think celebrini had another good backdoor chance on the powerplay late, and a bunch of others i'm forgetting. yeah 6 seems possible.

did mackinnon miss an empty net because he's a no-skiller who can't score? did mcbust and celebrini fail on breakaways because they're no-skillers who can't score? if mckenna goes #1 that'll be 6 of the last 7 years with a canadian as the top pick in the draft. yeah clearly a no-skill no-scoring future...

some of these takes are so ****ing dumb. yeah the yanks might pass us eventually due to population, but can we at least wait until it even remotely looks like a reality, rather than after a game that was a demolition apart from goaltending/luck?

been checked out on the draft the last few years, just looked and 37 of the 1st rounders from the last two years are from canada (including 17 of the top-22 in 2025, and 9 of the top-13 in 2024), so something of a mini resurgence there which should bolster the system going forward for those who are concerned about the future for whatever reason

Canada got lucky and had 2 come from behind wins in the playoff round, they no longer dominate the WJC either. And it's because of people like you saying well they outshot them, or MacKinnon doesn't usually miss open nets. It's lowering the bar, we used to expect domination now we are satisfied with outshooting teams.

We just had to put our top 3 forwards/centers on a line together because we don't have wingers skilled enough to play with them.

yeah, probably the same reason they put wayne, mario and hawerchuk together ..... or maybe it's because ~all the best players are centers. who's to say

This.

People that don't normally participate in this thread come out of the crevices like a cockroach to spew their vitriol and make me sad that I'm an ugly American.

I sincerely apologize for these douchbags.

Canada got Goalied and missed a bunch of chances. No Corsi gold afaik. Maybe next time the Gold Medal game will stay 5 on 5 for a period at least.

This.

Canada outplayed the US after the first period. It's also not a best of 7.

Rantanen placed on short term IR with a lower body injury. Out at least 2 weeks.

Sucks, but I still like watching NHL players in the Olympics.

This winter at the 2026 Winter Olympics, the United States men’s hockey team captured gold in dramatic fashion, its first Olympic gold in men’s hockey in 46 years! A legendary performance against rival Canada. At the heart of that historic victory was Connor Hellebuyck, the goaltender who stood on his head in the net, stopping an incredible 41 of 42 shots and earning acclaim as one of the top goalies in the world.

But before Olympic glory, before NHL stardom, before international headlines… Connor’s journey began in Odessa, Texas with the Odessa Jackalopes.
Quote:
In 2011 and 2012, Connor Hellebuyck came to Odessa to play junior hockey with the Jackalopes, a team that competes in the North American Hockey League, NAHL. Coming from Michigan and facing skepticism from other junior programs, Connor embraced the opportunity here in West Texas. This unlikely chapter became a pivotal turning point in his hockey career.
I've mentioned my hockey buddy before who is the son of one of my best friends that I went to school with here in west Texas. He (the son) has taught me a lot about the game and still knows something about damnn near every player in the league.

He played with Conner Helleybuck in the NAHL which is pretty cool. I can't fathom how much his dad spent hauling him and his brother around Texas and Oklahoma, and as far as Chicago to play hockey. Especially considering Odessa which is a 2 hour drive from here was the closest sheet of ice to practice on.

My hockey buddy's sweaters he dug out of the closet the other day for good luck in the Olympics.

Yup it is over, only looking foward to trades now.

The ceo told season ticket holders we are going to contend! Hilarious.

Cheering for Edmonton in playoffs and see who else once matchups are done.

Edmonton is 4 points up on LA and they have a couple games in hand . Jarry can't stop a beach ball I wouldn't say they are a lock for the playoffs
Oh wow I missed Seattle in the hunt as well
