dominant in 4 games, better in 5, slightly worse in 2. so yeah, pretty dominant overall. i guess that's why i remembered it that way, because i watched a bunch of it. plus how they almost didn't trail in the avs series.

so what? was it worth nitpicking that? even though it was irrelevant to my point of "how are the loilers doing this to everyone?" i don't mean to bag on you because this place has always been like this, even when it had a lot of traffic, but ****. nobody bothers posting unless maybe they can score some internet points by nitpicking some irrelevant thing in a 10000 word post. great community. no wonder it's empty...

loilers/stars game 5: oilers 56% xg

score/venue adjusted is 62% loilers, which yeah, seems relevant here bc the stars got some offense in garbage time. they had like 6 shots 36 minutes into the game*
* - don't cinemasins fact check this, it's not an actual fact, but more or less correct

(again, i decided to use adjusted numbers for this today bc the loilers were up 2-3 kinda early. watching the game edm seemed fairly dominant until the end)

best oilers: mcdavid 89%, hyman 87%, nugent-hopkins 80%, bouchard 77%, ekholm 76%
worst oilers: henrique 14%, holloway 17%, kane 29%, brown 31%, ceci 32%

keep nuge with mcbust i guess, worked out very well for both tonight. bouchard/ekholm have been great all playoffs, build a statue if they win. kane has been bottom-5 in a lot of games iirc, guessing he's injured. and now i'm just thinking about cody ceci at a parade in edmonton fml

best stars: pavelski 65%, hintz 56%, petrovic 53%, seguin 47%, heiskanen 44%
worst stars: dellandrea 11%, dadonov 17%, stankoven 31%, tanev 31%, steel 33%

~nobody showed up, wtf is this. figure it out. tanev is likely playing on 1 litre of horse tranquilizers. i guess dellandrea drew in for someone injured, but as the woat black ace i'd prob try anyone else next game

edmonton - florida will be fun, other than for the players having to endure that travel

Contract year for mitchy. He can get no pp time and play 3rd line. Wonder how that will impact his next contract.

The best explanation I've read is someone who said something to the effect of "everyone things the Oilers are this run and gun team because of McDavid, but if you look at the roster: Draisaitl. Hyman. Kane. Perry." they're a heavy cycle team that has one transcedental rush player. They just have the puck in the ozone a lot, and that freaking wears on teams, and teams are always a little apprehensive about defending too hard in case referee lottery shows up and its the night they decide to call the rulebook and the Oilers get 6 powerplays.

Add to that the Oilers bottom 6 doesn't really even need to worry about outscoring - they just dump it in, tie up on the boards and keep it far away from Skinner until the big boys are ready to go again. When they split 29+97 up, it's just demoralizing - you have a really good shift and defend the McDavid line, giving them nothing. Skate to the bench and see your fourth line come out while Draisaitl grins and hops over the boards.

They might actually do it.

Cheering for Edmonton overall.

Prefer Panthers greatly over Rangers, but not sure if one is preferable for Edmonton over the other.

Edmonton over Florida
Edmonton over Rangers
Florida cup
Dallas cup

I don't see either Western team beating Florida. Vegas had the size, defense and experience to stand up to them last season. This year Florida has the experience from last year and Tkachuk is healthy.

desperate times call for desperate measures:

Quote:
American Hockey League MVP Mavrik Bourque will be in the lineup for the Dallas Stars on Sunday when they visit the Edmonton Oilers in Game 6 of the Western Conference final.

Coach Pete DeBoer told reporters Sunday morning that Bourque will make his NHL playoff debut in place of fellow forward Ty Dellandrea.

catz/rag$ game 6: xg 64% panthers

best panthers xg: rodrigues 78%, tkachuk 75%, bennett 74%, lundell 73%, tarasenko 67%
worst panthers xg: lorentz 0%, stenlund 1%, okposo 21%, kulikov 60%, forsling 61%

their 4th line sucks so maurice solved this by just not playing them (like 7 minutes at 5v5), and with one simple trick his entire team was 60%+ xg. ez game

best rangers xg: roslovic 60%, fox 55%, lindgren 53%, chytil 49%, kakko 47%
worst rangers xg: schneider 19%, miller 21%, zibanejad 25%, kreider 27%, wennberg 27%

not much to say, so i'll say what i said after last game, but again; they just didn't have as many horses as the other top teams, and this fact was maybe obscured by shesterkin being one of the best goalies in the world

panthers series xg for east final vs rangers: 49%, 48%, 69%, 73%, 69%, 64%

very slightly outplayed the first couple games, but once they figured some things out it was gg. the final will probably come down to if lolbob can submarine this strong team or not

yeah I guess the stars are basically playing 4 vs. 5 with dellandrea on the ice. how much worse can it get playing anyone else in his place?

I just don’t see how you can get dominated in a series and drag it out 7 games unless you’ve just had magical Hasek-esque goaltending, which I don’t think was the case in that series. I’m not trying to nitpick, but if I see something questionable, I might question it The NHL Thread

insane SOG difference. and that doesn't include the stars hitting the post a few times. I really thought they were going to tie it up late but it wasn't meant to be.

onward to the SCF we go.

early to win the cup price (from Draftkings): florida -125 edmonton +105
